Why does Boss Hogg come to mind?
Something about this makes me nervous.
Especially since I don’t think it so much about enforcing the law as it is about the money, as he says:
“early payment of fines in return, for example, for a reduced driving suspension”.
What does that mean? Give us the money and we will revoke (to a degree) your punishment? Well, this will be make it much easier for the haves, but the have nots will have to do the full punishment plus pay the fine.
What if the revenue gained, like gambling revenue, becomes addictive? We will be ticketed up the wazoo. Leniency/warnings will be a thing of the past.
That’s why Boss Hogg comes to mind! Remember he would put up fake speed limit/parking signs in order to gain revenue from the tickets issued?

Boss Kelly: If you see an out-of-county license plate, what do you do?
Deputy: Walk right up to them and say Welcome to Halifax County!”
Boss Kelly: Wrong. you grab this here fire hydrant, place it by the car and give ’em a ticket.
Another typical cash grab – wait until they start parading out the Smoke Cops.
I’d like to know how they would reduce suspensions since it is the purview of the province, not the city.
Yup the Smoking Police. Time to change the name of the province from Nova Scotia to Nanny State. Let’s hear it for Comrades Kelly and Dexter.
The thing is, when you get a ticket from the municipality, you can challenge it in court. But, if the municipality pays the cops giving the ticket (and testifying) and the judges, the verdict has a good chance of being slanted.
Tim:
Kelly said he would split the revenue with the province, so they would work together. But, he just through that idea out there, so you may be right.
I don’t trust Kelly….he only acts in his own best interest not that of the city
peter kelly can’t even run his own fucking life, let alone a city or court. too many problems come to my mind, or is he trying to be another harry anderson, from the old night court series, doh.
