I recently just came across an adervisement by PETA; an organization dedicated to animals rights… blah blah blah. The ad was actually mocking the horrible death of Tim Mclean, I find it completly disgusting and disrespectful to his family not to mention are these people fucking serious? Comparing the murder of a human being to the death of an animal…. it’s completly ridiculous! They want to promote their cause by using ads such as this one… well they need a reality check. PETA your organization is a fucking joke!

  1. not to mention the freaking geniuses who tried to protest his funeral because they think these are acts of God that occur because we allow “rampant” homosexuality to take place. That poor family has been through the worst thing any of us could ever imagine, why not let them bury their son in peace?!

  2. This is what I was saying in another thread. PETA is as bad as that Phelps gang for using this tragedy for publicity.

  3. I’m not sayimg that PETA did the right thing by using this tragedy to promote their causes, but some of the reader comments posted on a U.S. news site regarding this story bugged the shit out of me. It never ceases to amaze me to see how people understand their place in the grand scheme of things. There were comments revolving around the stupidity of comparing human life to animal life, and the “we are better than animals” line… When you really think about it, there really is not much of a difference. Seriously, what are they? I’m sure someone will come up with our ability to reason, but beyond that, why are we so much better? I don’t think we are.

  4. we are a higher-order animals than just about any other creature on earth. we experience deeper emotions (from what we know at least), as well as our ability to reason, and our concept of self (most animals do not have that to the same extent that we do).that being said, it is irrelevant why humans are ‘better’ than animals. what is relevant, is that PETA took their campaign too far. way too far.i know people who have greatly supported PETA in the past, but now, after seing that ad have pulled their support from them.i did not care either way about them before, but now i am quite against them out of principle. they wanted some free press, they got some free press that backfired on them. they took it too far (eventhough they rely on the shock factor to get the most bang for their buck when it comes to advertisement).

  5. I understand that their message is that innocent animals are being slaughtered, but to compare that to the grusome murder of a human being? That’s just rediculous….A cow doesn’t have parents, family, friends, that are going to mourn and hurt from the brutal loss of a son/nefew/friend. Now, if someone went into your backyard and cut the head off your family dog…..well that may be a little bit more relevent….but you still can’t compare! PETA is fucked up!

  6. Your dog would bite my child and my cat would eat my face off if I died. Why should they be treated any differently than they treat me?

  7. I doubt a chicken or pig or even a cow would kill you in your sleep Gimpy :). Maybe a polar bear, but we don’t usually eat those.Do you really think the relationship between humans and animals is best summarized as “eat or be eaten”? I think it is a little more complex than that. Regardless of whether or not you see animals as beasts or sentient, a person who can inflict pain and suffering on them without remorse is lacking some basic human decency.

  8. PETA is a non-profit agency that does not deserve non-profit taxation status. Their methods are highly questionable, they target school children right on schoolgrounds by telling them that mommy and daddy promote the slaughter of animals for food and clothing, and PETA actually KILLS animals that they supposedly “rescue”. The whole Tim McLean thing is just another ploy by PETA to dupe weak-minded people into supporting their “cause”, a cause which is about a twat hair away from domestic terrorism. Here are a few sites to read up about this multi-million dollar “non-profit” organization:http://www.petakillsanimals.com/index.cfmhttp://www.activistcash.com/organization_overview.cfm/oid/21If you get the chance to watch it, there is a documentary about Ingrid Newkirk, the whackjob head of PETA. She reads the contents of her will in it…all I have to say is…jeezus, she’s a fucking nut.

  9. Dude…”PETA’s leadership has compared animal farmers to serial killer (and cannibal) Jeffrey Dahmer. They proclaimed in a 2003 exhibit that chickens are as valuable as Jewish Holocaust victims. They announced with a 2001 billboard that a shark attack on a little boy was “revenge” against humans who had it coming anyway. They have branded parents who feed their kids meat and milk “child abusers.” “So their ad execs were a bunch of sullen 13 year old boys, which explains why they chose to soften their public image with Wondertits there.

  10. If these fucking PETA morons had their way, ALL animals would be running free – there would be no ‘pets’, no ‘livestock’, no ‘zoos’ – our streets would resemble India with their sacred cows (and their shit) as if we don’t have enough two legged cows and pigs walking around town in tank tops and stretchy pants.

  11. Grindcore, you say we are a higher-order animals, we experience deeper emotions, we can reason, and we have a concept of self. These are all pretty abstract measures that have justified our cruelty to animals for years and years. Wasn’t it the ability to reason that disallowed women in the past from participating in politics and numerous other things? The idea that humans are “better” than non-human animals is totally relevant to this fiasco. This is the thinking that underpins and justifies the cruel treatment of animals and what PETA was trying to do was highlight that innocent animals are often slaughtered while they are minding their own business for our eating pleasures, much like what happened to the guy on the bus. Once again, I’m not condoning the ad, but the general perception of our superiority to animals and to the natural environment is fucked up – this is what I see PETA as trying to address. Mind you, I have been accused of misinterpreting things, so I could be wrong on this one.As for Lori, “A cow doesn’t have parents, family, friends, that are going to mourn and hurt from the brutal loss of a son/nefew/friend” how the fuck do you know that animals don’t mourn? How do you know that animals don’t hurt? Does the fact that we have family, friends, etc justify differential treatment between humans and non-human animals? Seriously…let’s open this can of worms up real wide.

  12. ok, Plonk. if you are so concerned (from i get from your post at least) with the natural order of things, creatures running around not being killed and whatnot… do you forget that human ancestors lived on a diet that consisted of something like 80% meat just a few thousand years ago (a time that is negligible on the evolutionary scale)?i personally never said that humans are better than the animals we eat for food (and also i said that humans have a DEEPER concept of self, not that animals dont have it at all). we get to eat animals, because its natural for humans (we are natural omnivores). just like its natural for caterpillars to eat leafs, and for seals to eat fish.

  13. Plonk, don’t mistake “better” for “different”. I think humans are clearly different from other animals, and those differences don’t make us better or more evolved, but they do contribute to the importance of how we view ourselves relative to other animals. Death is a common and unavoidable fact of living in the natural world. Carnivorous animals kill other animals for food all the time. Do you think this is unethical? I think it is not because those animals act on instinct and need to eat meat to survive. If you equate humans with animals, then it should be OK for us to eat meat too and there should be no ethical concerns. If you think it is not OK for humans to eat meat, then you have to invoke that humans relationship to our food is fundamentally different than with an animal and it’s food and that difference is due to the differences between people and animals. So if we are different, then it is perfectly fair to suggest that humans play by a different set of rules when it comes to how we relate to the lives of animals versus how we relate to our lives and the lives of other humans.

  14. We are able to kill and eat the animals. WE WIN!Do you think a lion waxes philosophically about whether or not she should kill the giselle? Fuck no, they want to eat and eat NOW. Why is it that if an animal kill an endangered species it’s nature, but if a human does it’s cruelty? The human body does not contain the enzymes that break down cellulose to carbohydrates and fatty acids. So it is UNNATURAL for a human to survive on plants alone. In fact I behold it to a PETA member to not use vitamin suppliments in their diet and see how much fight they have left. And I am wondering how they are using suppliments as they are tested on animals in the first place to see if they would survive. In fact the leader of PETA got a transplant to SURVIVE that was first done by animals, so if that bitch really cared she would have REFUSED her surgery and died a long time ago. She didn’t so she’s a hypocrite.

  15. @ PlonkFirst of all, I treat my animals like I would treat my children. I am an animal lover and totally against animal cruelty. However, animals and people are different and if you don’t see that, well your just as fucked as PETA. I believe that animals do have feelings as I felt terrible when we brought our most recent addition home (new puppy), and she cried for the first few nights, probably missing the warmth of her mother and siblings, but if someone ran over her mother with a car tomorrow, I doubt she would read about it in the paper and seek justice on the murderer (driver). As much as I love my dog, I doubt her feelings would be as hurt as mine would had it been my mother hit by the car.

  16. Grindcore and Miles, I am not suggesting that creatures should not be killed, in fact, I eat meat. What I’m against is cruel treatment of animals. This treatment extends from the battery farms to the people who turf out their cats and dogs when they can’t be bothered looking after them. It also bothers me that many people (not all) don’t think twice about the misery some animals might go through to keep us all alive. What we don’t see won’t hurt us, right? We make all these claims about how we are superior because of this or that, but are we really?Take the Bible as an example. What was it in Genesis… Something about man shall have dominion over all animals..ok, we are different, but does our difference give us the right to screw over what is not like us? Perhaps it’s an issue of respect for animals and awareness about what goes on behind closed doors for our survival…maybe that’s what I’m trying to get at.And Lori, good to hear that you treat your animals like your children, and maybe you’re right, maybe I am as fucked up as PETA for thinking that there isn’t much of a difference between me an and animal; therefore respect and compassion must be afforded to all. But is an opposite opinion to the norm really “fucked up” or am I just different? It’s a shame that there is ltd space here to discuss this, and I apologise if I am unable to express exactly what I am trying to get at. Anyway…

  17. I treat my animals like ANIMALS. Meaning I don’t trust them lest they eat me in my sleep. It’s nature to want to kill to survive. It’s ingrained. And the bible said that we are masters and must subjugate the animals and bend the earth to our will for our toils will produce bountiful fruit in heaven. Meaning your reference is that we are BETTER than animals. I don’t care about the suffering an animal feels before it is killed the same way a polar bear could give two shits over the pain that a seal has when it is getting it’s skull cracked open like a walnut or it’s intestines layes out like so much laffy taffy. What is the difference between a plate of chicken that was in a cage all it’s life or a plate of chicken that was taken out for walks and mastrubated to sleep every night… Maybe a little less fat but you could scrape that out by scoring the chicken before you cook it so no biggie. In short, animals are lower on the totem pole and just like I don’t shed a tear for plankton, I could give two shits about a grate dane…

  18. I think the point of not abusing animals is more about honing our sense of empathy. It is obvious to us that an animal can suffer, wheras a polar bear killing a seal might not recognize the suffering it is inflicting. People who can knowingly inflict undue suffering on an animal and either not care or, heaven forbid, derive pleasure from it are closer to animals and farther from being human.

  19. Better an ASS that’s alive than a fool that’s DEAD. The world is run by assholes and vapors lori, assholes and vapors…

  20. HOLD THE PHONE Miles (from home) you can’t have it both ways. Either the animal is intelligent enough to suffer or they are mindless beast. Either way my argument stands. If a polar bear knows pain then it knows biting is painful and doesn’t give a shit because it needs to live and the seal has to DIE to accomplish that. Same as a human which is an animal that is just the dominant species. So all animals to me are potential food that could kill me if I misstep.

  21. Pigs would and so would chickens since they are quite vicious. In FACT a pig could leave NO TRACE of your body given a couple hours. They are ravenous and LOVE the taste of meat. Cows not so much but like you might have a pet snake, if it coils up on you out of ‘love’ you get crushed to death and then eaten… And you are mistaken, feeling no remose for animal deaths is not lack of HUMAN decancy.. It may be considered ‘inhumane’ but that’s just a made-up word like ‘grybnubbik’…

  22. uh-huh. I saw Snatch too Gimpy…but remember you need about 20 pigs to finish off a human so you are likely to only be maimed in your sleep by a vicious porcine attacker. And my comments were about feeling remorse for infliting pain and suffering on animals, not inflicting death. It’s an important difference. I don’t think you have to feel bad about killing an animal for a purpose, but you should feel bad for hurting one with no useful purpose. But I think you are just having fun messing with people anyway, so I really don’t think it matters what I say on this issue. Thanks for the laughs though, and good luck fending off all those ravenous farm animals trolling around the city.

  23. But you only need one to rip out your throat… And you only need one chicken to pluck out your eyeballs.
