how on earth does [a certain university sports facility whose membership is included in tuition just apparently not in the summer] justify charging me 60bucks for use of facilites just because it’s summer. I’ve been a full time student for the last 3 years and if this isn’t the biggest money grab ever, I don’t know what is??? What the hell??? If they’re going to charge me in the summer they might as well just charge me for the fall and winter too.. WTF…doesn’t make any sense. fuck its not like I don’t pay enough already- thanks, asshole management who thought that would be a good idea.

—pissed. wtf.

  1. They do the same thing with residence…and actually classes, for that matter.

    …bastards.

  2. They do charge you for the fall and winter…..look at your fee breakdown. It’s not included in tuition, it’s added to your bill in addition to tuition.

  3. That used to bug the hell out of me when I was there. I used it though… I just stuck to the racquetball courts. Decent. I’d suggest running elsewhere, mostly because that’s all everyone does there.

  4. Smee, .50 cents a day works out to 15 dollars a month. Unless that was sarcasm, I’d like that deal on a gym membership, plzthx.

  5. Well, most other universities include year round memberships. Like, you don’t have to pay anything in the spring/summer sessions.

And if this is the uni I think it is, it’s a huge waste of money anyway…not for students OF the university, but they charge way too much for general public memberships. Better off going with a private gym if you’re part of the gen pub.

  6. Get used to paying for things you don’t need or want, like professional dues, union dues, and various and sundry other dues you will be required to pay through your life, especially those pesky taxes.

Further, your tuition runs Sept-Apr, so why should you have free access in the summer, when you are not attending.

  7. yeah, you’d likely hear more screaming if they included a year’s dalplex membership. all the students that fuck off in april would piss and moan that they have to pay but can’t use the membership in the summer.
The person who decided this likely ran the numbers and took the lesser of two evils.

  8. See…I don’t get that, zZz — most other universities include a year round gym membership…and as far as I know there isn’t much pissing and moaning about having to pay a year round fee.

I used to use the gym at msvu and acadia all the time during the summer without having to pay extra….

What DOES piss me off is how a certain university in the annapolis valley charges a 200-300 dollar fee now for a “health and wellness” fee or something like that. That includes your gym fee and student health centre fee…BUT the kicker is: they still bill MSI when you go to the clinic (IF you can actually get in to see a doctor — yeah, good luck with that) and if you don’t have a health card they charge you…most gym fees at universities are fairly low so I know A LOT of this fee is going to the health centre, which would be FINE if they weren’t also billing MSI at the same time (and maybe even a little better if you could actually make use of their services, like I said good luck getting in to see a doctor). That REALLY bugs me.

  9. I know… it’s bizarre… I concede that.
    I will note also that
    1. acadia has way fewer students
    2. it’s the only gym within walking distance
    3. I couldn’t actually find their prices on their site… shame on them.

  10. Swamp Donkey:
    My attitude was indeed sarcasm,
my point was indeed I’d like that deal on a gym membership too at that price!
    .50 cents a day = 15 dollars a month, 4 summer months = $60 the per’PLEXed and pissed student was complaining about!
    I rest my case…………….NEXT!

  11. Well if you’ve been attending that certain university I’m thinking of, you’d know by now that the entire campus is a rip-off.

Attended there, they went on strike, demanded a refund for time lost, got it, left the university. They’re idiots. Most of the people I know who attended that university say the same. In fact, none of them recommended to any of their friends!
Sad thing about it, it’s the only university in HRM that offers certain programs.

  12. ok, so you want a summer gym membership, but youre not a full time student, and its only 60 bucks? if you arent getting 60 dollars worth at the gym over 4 months, and you factor in maintenance, you must only be using select offerings like a court, a track, or some weights. go for a run, buy some ankle weights, or go to an outdoor school yard or the commons. better yet, go swim or surf if you want the water. if the weather doesnt fit your schedule, you must be busy working, and maybe you can afford the 60 after all?

    it’ll be warmer soon.
