OP is blaming the victim when the real culprit here is the dental profession which advocates charging way too much for their exclusive service. Dentists need to go back and read that little thing called the hippocratic oath which states ‘first do no harm.’ If dental fees were such that everyone could afford them then you could blame someone for having a mouthful of less than attractive teeth. As long as the robbery continues at the dental office there will be people who can’t afford the thievery. Or teeth.

Pray to what/whom-ever you pray to that you never fall on hard times, though there are other reasons why people do not have ‘movie star’ mouths, which are usually fake anyway. Many medical conditions can also cause bad breath. As for smiling / talking, well that comes from being human. Learn either to not look at people or look and somehow accept them, or get away from humanity. Many places in this world where you would be seeing much worse things than poor dental hygiene. I know I’d rather see someone with bad teeth than someone staring at me with a gun or knife.
Dental fees for maintenance and such are not that outrageous…….I fail to see why people think they are. Most of us get three sets of teeth in our lifetime (the third is in a water bath at night at the old folks home) and regular check-ups and prevention are just necessary for overall health.
Of course, going to the dentist when there is an issue will be an expense as they have to try and minimize the damage that was done through neglect over the years. THIS IS EXPENSIVE……but factored over all the years that were neglected equates to a rather reasonable sum. So, say you didn’t go for 5 years (10 visits x the $ per visit…..yep, it will add up all at once and people bitch that ONE visit cost $$$$ when in actuality your SINGLE trip to the dentist was TEN time the work required!

OP’s an asshole, but I do often wonder how many people’s teeth are shitty because they didn’t take care of them. I have a friend who admits to having poor oral hygiene along with their shitty diet full of refined sugar… last dental visit they had like 9 cavities!
I brush my teeth and floss twice a day and have since I was able to do it on my own and I haven’t had any cavities in my entire life… so it really makes me wonder why so many people end up with bad teeth… is it the smoking? lack of brushing? I know some people lose their teeth to disease and some medications can affect your breath but… c’mon. A toothbrush costs a whole buck at the dollar store if you’re THAT poor and toothpaste/floss is about that much too!

I havent been to the dentist in 7 years; I hate the feeling of having that little machine move over my teeth, it gives me severe heebie jeebies. But so far, so good; I floss daily, brush 3 times (and more if I happen to have a cigarette), and use a good mouthwash every time. I also have one of those little plaque removers dentists use and every few days I’ll give them an extra scrub with baking soda. I’ve only ever had 2 cavities in my life and people sometimes comment on my teeth being nice and white…so unless I get a pain in my tooth, I have no intention of going.
you’ve got it wrong way around – if you took care of your teeth (brushing flossing etc) you wouldn’t need to go to the dentist to have a lovely smile. I go twice a year for a cleaning and was asked by my dentist if I whitened my teeth (I don’t).

I actually have to brush my teeth less, according to my dentist because I’m tearing my gums to bits :(. I would brush for at least 5 mins twice a day, as hard as I could :P, as well as flossing et al. Apparently you’re not supposed to do that… even though that’s what they told my class in school anyway. They just feel so good and clean that way but my gums can’t recede anymore, or I’ll have to get surgery :(. They say to brush very lightly for 2 mins, twice a day… maybe I have a big mouth but I’ve been timing myself and I just can’t fit all of my teeth in two minutes. Despite all of my brushing, flossing and sugar avoidance, I had tooth decay. Does anybody else want to strangle their dentist and run away when they have to drill your teeth? FUCK the teeth shavings get all over your face and up your nose and in your hair, it’s quite possibly the worse thing I ever had to do. And they also say you should replace your toothbrush every THREE TO FOUR MONTHS. Does this absolutely repulse anybody else? That just seems like way to god damn long to me.
