Alright, I am sending in this bitch complaint to all of those pedestrians out there that think they rule the road, what the fuck. You keep complaining that the people don’t stop for you when you are trying to cross the road, how about when you get to a crosswalk, make EYE CONTACT before you cross… or maybe HIT THE BUTTON that is available to you that makes you more noticeable. If you are a one of those lovely j-walkers, LOOK before you just float onto the road… I almost hit a couple people that didn’t look and walked right onto the road without hesitation and then gave me a look and yelled at me… What the hell people? I weight 1400lbs… you weight 130 on a rainy day. Drivers, stop sucking and use your blinker/indicator so we know what way you are going… for the upcoming winter season, how about you fucking clean off the roof of your car??? Did you know you can get ticketed for it? It is a hazard, and if a nice gust of wind hits your car, that will fly off and make the person behind you swerve and potentially cause an accident. Also… downtown speed limits are 50 km/h not fucking 15-20… fucking tourists… —Person On A Rage….

Pedestrians have the right of way. If motorists adjusted their speed in anticipation of a marked cross walk, then that may eleminate all these close calls. Crosswalks are clearly marked, so you must accept the fact that pedestrians DO NOT have to yeild their right of way. You may think they do, but they don’t 🙂 And no matter what your speed, cars weight or reaction time may be, you’re wrong OB.
I think common sense should prevail more that what I just typed, but its the law. So, if you want to bitch and moan about others following the law. You should realize that you’re in the wrong whenever a pedestrian uses a marked or unmarked crosswalk.

the one piece of the post that i agree with is the lack of eye contact on the pedestrians’ part. Rarely even an attempt. regardless of the law or who’s right and wrong blah blah blah that’s a perfectly insane amount of trust in strangers driving fast cars. i make eye contact,(i often enjoy being alive) give a wave if someone’s stopping for me at an ‘unmarked cross walk’ as someone above calls them…and if that pedestrian perpetual right of way is in fact a law, why do crosswalks exist?

Yes. If someone runs out in front of you, it’s not your fault. And i’m not denying lots of idiots do that. But if someone is at a crosswalk, they don’t have to gain your permission before crossing. YOU need to check the crosswalk to make sure it’s clear before proceeding.

Someone above calls them? That would be the NS Driver’s Handbook you should be referring to, not me. Please familiarize yourself with Chapter 2, Page 42.

Once again, read Chapter 2 Pages 42-43, and you will find out that it is in fact a law. Also, by that logic, why are there lines on some roads and not others? Why are some stops marked by traffic lights and others with just a sign? Why are there sidewalks on only one side of the road in some neighbourhoods? All of these are a direct result of having a limited budget. Higher volume areas get the attention they deserve. Whereas, lower volume areas are simply not practical to invest the time, money, upkeep and maintenance fees into.

Actually pedestrians do have some duty to follow laws even when in crosswalks… Motor vehicle act of NS section 93 subsection 2 “(i) “don’t walk” light – pedestrian traffic facing this signal,
either flashing or solid, shall not start to cross the roadway in the
direction of the signal;” “(2) The drivers of vehicles, pedestrians, and all other traffic
approaching or at an intersection or on a part of the highway controlled by any of
the traffic signals mentioned in subsection (1) shall act in obedience to the traffic
signals in accordance with the following instructions:
(a) green light or flashing green light – all vehicular traffic
facing this signal may proceed unless otherwise directed by a traffic
sign or a peace officer but shall yield the right of way to pedestrians
lawfully in the crosswalk and other vehicles lawfully in an intersection
and, unless otherwise directed by a traffic sign or signal, pedestrians
may proceed on a green light only in a crosswalk towards the
sign or signal and shall not proceed on a flashing green light;
(b) green arrow light – all vehicular traffic facing this signal
may proceed but only in a direction indicated by an arrow unless
otherwise directed by a peace officer but shall yield the right of way
to pedestrians lawfully in a crosswalk and other vehicles lawfully in
an intersection, and pedestrians may proceed only in a crosswalk
towards the signal unless otherwise directed by a traffic sign or signal;”… So according to this, I only have to yield right of way to pedestrians LAWFULLY in the cross walk.. Does that mean I can run them over when they walk on th e “do not walk” light? Sounds to me like pedestrians who think they have 100% right of way all the time on the road need to understand the law more. There are times when the light is still green, yet the walk sign indicates for pedestrians not to walk. This should give drivers a chance to make a turn in a heavy pedestrian traffic area, rather than have people keep walking until the light changes for the cars as they do all the time here in Halifax, and get angry when the cars try to proceed through them.

AnnoyedDriver- Your point is lost as no one argued against a signal light or in favour of Jaywalking. Thats all covered in Chapter 2 as well. Instead of copy and pasting I try to give the reference and let the individual in question do their homework.
My point is that there IS an instance where in a marked or unmarked crosswalk, pedestrians don’t have the right of way. Nukka it was you who stated that pedestrians do not have to yield right of way in a crosswalk, well in fact according to this law, they do… I didn’t post a reference, but pasted the info here because the majority of people on the internet are too stupid/lazy to actually follow up and do any sort of reading if only a reference is posted. This makes it easier for those people. Meaty I really don’t have that attitude towards pedestrians, in all honesty I stop more for people crossing the road than the average driver. And when I’m stopped at a crosswalk to let you cross and someone comes flying through from the other way, or from behind me, I honk my horn to try to save you from getting hit, and let them know that they’ve done wrong. I don’t have a negative attitude towards pedestrians, cyclists, or other road users for that matter. I only get annoyed when they think they have ultimate right of way since it is a crosswalk, even if they have a do not walk light.

Not true, at no point did I mention or bring up a signal light. I had also written in my response to you “Your point is lost as no one argued against a signal light or in favour of Jaywalking.” While I can see where you went astray, the context of the OB was tied to a pedestrian that was not going against a signal light, but merely crossing the street with the law and the right of way on their side.
Of course though, as I originally posted, common sense should prevail over anything that I wrote. You also seem to be a good driver by the last half of what you wrote. I meant you no disrespect and did not intend to come of as argumentative.

Common sense …. Which is very uncommon. Tells those of us who do have it , that putting my 220 lb 6ft 1 inch body in front of a moving 2 + ton object will be EXTREMELY hazardous to my body , should we attempt to occupy the same space simultaneously !
