You are a jerk. Your tone of voice made my skin crawl. The fact that you snatched the product I intended to purchase out of my hand made me want to scream. It is very clear that you think serving me is beneath you. I know you sell a lot of high end stuff there and what I was buying was not that expensive, but, come on!

Problem is LS…as far as I remember there is really only one art supplies store in Halifax (might be more now…), I used to date an artist (not just an aspiring one, she was actually really good too!) and there was only one place she could get her gear. This was like 4 years ago now though so maybe there is more?
i am confused
I went there for some supplies earlier this week, and as soon as I started asking questions it became obvious that I am a beginner. Their attitude toward me worsened immediately.
All these budding artists cry about people not appreciating the arts, so if you work in a store that caters to people trying to learn about art, don’t be bitchy when people have questions. Go find a job at some snooty gallery if you want to get away with being condescending.

My frau was in there on Saturday while I grabbed some stuff at the Farmer’s Market. She didn’t know about the name change until later but did remark that the place was ‘way more cluttered’ to which I replied ‘that place is always cluttered it seems like I can’t turn around without knocking some shit over’ to which she replied ‘well, its wayyyy more cluttered now’
She also added that they added tonnes more crap for people that are into ‘scrapbooking’ (whatever that is) and other ‘hobby-esque things’ to which I suggested shopping at the NSCAD supply store.
As for the teller, she/he probably thinks she is the next Degas or Monet and this proletariat bullshit is only going to last up the point where her parents cave and release her trust fund.
There are two art stores in Halifax, the NSCAD one in Granville Mall and Deserres (sp?) on Barrington street. There is also Michael’s in Bayer’s lake, but it’s full of crafty junk.
There is a lot of scrapbooking shit at Deserres now too, but I guess they got to pay the bills somehow…
NSCAD has a very limited amount of items and Deserres seems to be getting into that fucking horrible phenomena, ‘scrapbooking’ as much as anything else. They do not have a good range of supplies, certainly not as good as L&T did. As for the snotty little server, you should have said something instead of sucking it up like a magic sponge. People such as this should be made aware of their rudeness, tolerating it only perpetuates such bad behavior.
Art store….that’s worse than an arts degree.
strange…usually I find the staff really nice there. As for the comments – I dislike how people jump to the conclusion that art students are trust-fundy. Tell that to the couple who lived in their studio at my art school and had to go shower every day at a seedy downtown giant american city YMCA.
If you had a trust fund would you work at a store?
