This is the prime reason why you take their information, even if they say “I’ll pay it out of pocket”. Try calling them with a quote and if they screen your call, fuck them! Open a claim with your insurance and they’ll get their insurance to cover it (provided you are not at fault). Easy Peasy but you are SOL.

I’m pretty sure even if the nimrod who hit you didn’t have proper insurance the province would pay out your costs and go after the one who hit you…I’m guessing the assfuck who won’t pony up didn’t want to run it through insurance and said they’d pay you themselves….yeah, don’t EVER fall for that unless they can give you cash on the spot.
Always get their insurance info and run it through it. Who cares if their rates go up? Accidents happen, and it sucks when it’s an “accident,” but that’s one of the things you have to deal with when you drive a car.
