I was in the middle of watching an interesting show last night when it was suddenly interrupted by a news bulletin announcing the win for the Boston Bruins against the Canucks. Not being a sports fan I paid no attention until they showed live footage of people in downtown Vancouver lighting fires and overturning vehicles in a frenzy of rage over losing the Stanley Cup.
All I can say is how sad, pathetic and completely grotesque it is to see people engaged in that kind of violence over LOSING A GODDAMNED SPORTS GAME! Fucking neanderthals! I fucking hate sports fanatics; primitive, face-painting, chest thumping, hollering idiots. Please note: I don’t hate sports fans, I hate fanatics, there is a big difference.
Overturning cars and fighting in the streets for a GAME; maybe these people should be shipped off to the middle east if they want a REAL reason to be upset! How fucking shallow and spoiled do we look to the majority of the rest of the world, who have REAL problems. —Embarrassed and Disgusted
This article appears in Jun 16-22, 2011.

some poor guy was trying to prevent people from looting, they put the boots to him. i was disgusted too op
Think of how much damage the methamphibians and doubly-Y chomosome set would have done had the Canucks won?
It’s the same mentality of the soccer hooligans, (i.e. NONE!) Completely senseless and unacceptable. I read an article where they actually asked a guy who had just lit a garbage can on fire, why he did it? His answer was as assanine as his actions..“This is releasing tension, man. What else are you going to do when you lose the Stanley Cup? You riot.” WTF?? Releasing tension? So terrorizing a city core, vandalizing property, overturning and burning vehicles, throwing bottles etc at police, causing serious bodily harm to someone, embarrassing, not only your city but your entire fucking country is releasing tension?? Jesus H. Christ! You want to release tension, go home and whack off ya jackwagon! WTF is wrong with people?? “What else are you going to do when your team loses the Stanley Cup?” Ohh, I dunno, how about not acting like a complete and utter brainless fuckwad! How about that! This shit pisses me off to no end. And to give an answer like this obvious model citizen did just adds gasoline to the flames. (no pun intended) I can understand being disappointed that your team lost. I get it. I can understand being upset or even angry. But ffs…you don’t turn to this shit! IT’S A FUCKING HOCKEY GAME!! The actions by these few wastes of skin has made Canada a virtual laughing stock for the rest of the world. This was in the Toronto Sun: “The U.K. Daily Mail ran its Vancouver riot story beneath coverage of the situation in Greece, where thousands took to the streets on Wednesday to protest proposed $40.5 billion in cuts demanded by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund to bail the country out of its massive debt.
Under the Greece coverage, the Mail posted the headline “…meanwhile in Canada – somebody lost an ice hockey match to the Americans.”
When you click on the story, the headline becomes: “No, it is not another G20 protest – somebody won an ice hockey match (Well, it was the Stanley Cup and Vancouver lost at home).” I am absolutely incensed by this and I hope that if they ever do catch those responsible, (highly unlikely given the overwhelming amount of people involved), that they get made an example out of. Send them to prison where I guaruntee you they have a much different way of relieving tension. Assholes!
Beautiful vitriol Avast0. I am in awe. And right on target.
WELCOME TO THE UNDERCLASS!!!
What we have here, of course, is the low end of the Underclass, a group characterized by subnormal intelligence, minimal educational attainment, peripheral service employment (where not actually drawing pogee), sex obsession, inarticulacy, obesity and consisting for the most part of rabid sports fans. Were some of them, when not going incognito, wearing Canuck’s jerseys with the name of a player on the back? You don’t get much more stupid than that. But most, bravehearts to a man, preferred the mask and mufti.
But every city has its lower Underclass. They form a sort of freemasonry of society’s sour underbelly. As you know, I have been at pains to point out the markers of the Halifax Underclass. I’m sure Halifax could match Vancouver’s in ferocity if not in numbers if the occasion warranted.
We recently had a similar riot here in Montreal, where the Canadiens were also defeated by the Bruins. The idiots rampaged down St. Catherine Street torching cars, smashing windows and looting as in Vancouver. Do not expect contrition. A week or so, after spending some jail time, the offenders were released individually. On passing by a TV camera for a local station, one hero turned, faced the camera, juiced up, and spit out a gob in the viewers’ faces. Of course one assumes that no action was taken..
Thumbing, I say! Thumbing!
A pleasure as always!
Cheerio!
P.S. I note that the Parasite (aka Hugo Phurst) is beginning to pop up again like a stubborn turd in the toilet bowl to offer his empty, stupid comments on my posts. Since he lacks the intelligence to either initate or sustain a dialogue, he relies totally on sneering. Ignore the fool.

I’d be pretty pissed too if I paid $14000 yes, fourteen thousand dollars, for two tickets to see my team shit the bed like that. They set themselves up for this shit. By they I mean the NHL or whoever decides that it should cost that much for a seat at a game. I know supply and demand and what not but god damn
I’m a huge sports fan and no saint but I wouldn’t engage in this kind of shit. To be honest looters just look for an excuse to loot. It’s just a good thing Canada won the Olympic gold medal, could you imagine? You think this looks bad…
I can see looting and rioting in a Rodney King type situation, or in Montreal when the cops killed that teenaged kid a few years ago, it’s still not right but that’s something to get pissed over. That’s a human life and in many people’s eyes a gross miscarriage of justice.
These people should be so ashamed, they need to wake up and realize we live in a great free country and have pretty great lives compared to a lot of people. It’s not that serious. But again, it would have been just as bad if they had won. Certain people are just opportunistic. There are lots of criminals in big cities like Vancouver, shit, there are millions of people in Vancouver. The actions of those few really make the city look bad as a whole, but really it’s no better or worse than any other huge city.
what a fucking bunch of idiotic fucking loser people. hey mm, the underclass isn’t just in halisux. this is a case for all sports fanatics to take a good long look at. these fucking cretians don’t have an iota of common sense, and i hope all those captured on video, get the fucking book thrown at them. if tha was my truck they tipped, you know there would have been bodies all over the fucking place, right tommyjules.
OMG Ivan. Give a guy some warning next time… I was in mid-gulp of a drink of water when I played that link in your last post….I nearly choked! LOL
Father Jack sums them up perfectly! Thanks for that.
lol fuckin rights.
It’s crazy because the fans at the game seemed very civil the whole way though. They applauded Boston, they boo’d (NHL Commissioner Gary) Betman but nobody likes him. There was no sign of fighting in the stands or throwing stuff on the glass.
I dunno to me it’s not just the sports fans who are to blame. When you get that many people in one place and then deliver some shitty news to them, in this case their team losing, just like any huge group of people there’s bound to be some idiots and some shit is bound to happen.
I wouldn’t smash a storefront window and that’s not gonna change if my team doesn’t win the cup. In other words these people were assholes and criminals and opportunistic people before the Stanley Cup Finals and they will continue to be afterwards, the fact that they’re sports fans has little to do with it in my eyes, they’re criminals first, sports fanatics second.
There are idiots in every segment of the population and when a whole city gets so pumped up for something and then they lose, people are gonna be stupid. Not having anything like that in Halifax it’s hard for us to relate. Nobody gives 2 shits about the Mooseheads.
In all seriousness, these people were not hockey fans. These are idiots who came into downtown after the game and started shit up because it’s the kind of crap they live for. They came prepared with gas masks, gasoline and weapons and behaved like assholes.
LOL avast0.I t was actually a rebuttal of Montrealmoleman’s latest blast of freshly baked methane, but it fits the not-yet-fully-evolved pond life who life to watch shit burn.
Yeah right, jennier; pull your head out of your ass! So sports fanatics never engage in that kind of behavior, huh? Well then why were so many of the people caught on camera wearing canucks jerseys, then?!!
Awww, it’s always OTHER people who come in and give poor innocent sports fans a bad name!!! (I’m not disputing others don’t sometimes join in, but come on!!!). Have you never read anything about football games in Poland? Belfast? Or hey, what about those 90 or so people who were stampeded to death in some Uk stadium back in the 80’s during some game???? Did a bunch of OTHER people bust into the stadium and do that?? PLEASE!!!
I had a feeling that was the case jennier. See OP? Sports fanatics aren’t to blame, assholes are.
Pretty sure at least 9 outta 10 people in Vancouver that day were wearing Canucks clothing, Z. Whenever you have huge crowds of people and reason to start shit, shit gets started. It wasn’t about the game it was about taking advantage of an opportunity to get some free shit or, set shit on fire.
I’m still trying to figure out what the OB means by protest. Yes some protests can result in a riot but I’ve never seen a riot end up as a protest. There was no protest here, just a bunch of idiotic asswipes and I have no doubt some of those idiots were fans.
Unbelievably bad form.
I cannot even fathom why anyone would do something so senseless & insane.
That is how I feel those people were acting, insane.
I’d weep for humanity, but I know that when it comes to ‘group mentality’ ….MENTAL is exactly what always seems to happen. Groups of humans seem to do things in a group, they would never consider doing alone or with a friend or 3 !
we were watching the game and when i saw all those people crammed into that small area i knew there would be trouble, win or lose. the mob mentality is terrifying and if you try to stop the goons you end up on the ground in a fetal position. remember the rodney king riots? that was horrifying, but at the least they were actually protesting something
Those were not true fans just fucktards who wanted to destroy something, good chance it would have happened if the Nucks won.
“They’re not real fans” How deep. Well I’m sure if you asked THEM, they would consider themselves fans! Who would spend that money for a sports jersey without considering him/herself a fan??? I don’t think they’re cheap. sorry, but if you wear a team’s jersey and attend their games, you’re a fan!
What a copout. It’s like: “A true american believes in God…bla bla bla,” or something like that.
Ok world cup is one thing … but hockey … who watches hockey.
Heh heh heh poke and run!
..i was caught right in the middle of the ’94 “festivities” and i can tell you these are not hockey fans..they are stoned/drunk scumbags from all over Canada..these peeps are just itching for an excuse to get their moron on..
it’s because it’s about a *sporting event* that it is all the more abhorrent. poking back donkalicious
Let’s see, get tens of thousands of people together in a highly emotionally charged atmosphere, add copious amounts of alcohol, increase testosterone levels and sprinkle in a few instigators and you have a recipe for disaster.
This seems to be happened with alarming frequency over the last couple of decades. To be sure, there were riots before that but they weren’t as common.
I believe some serious thought is going to have to be put into the planning for major sports championships. Maybe heavy security at the game, maybe less alcohol availability.
..and easy on the neanderthals. They may have lost out to modern humans some 26,000 y.o. but I’m sure their behavior was quite a bit better than the boneheads in Vancouver.
i have been puzzling over this and i think it’s like red rover, come over and help me stop these people from destroying. you’re right bat guy, they always get a bad rap
I guess the Hab haters can stop constantly calling us the “worst fans in hockey”. Every team has idiotic fans. Well, every team that HAS fans in the first place, sorry Phoenix…
thanks for that
I know what caused it – Groupthink – Just ask our mayor, he’s an expert in it.
“Protesters” ?
Is that becoming the euphemism for people who break windows and light shit on fire? I hope not.
Please lets not melt “protesters” in with “rioters”
Halifax couldn’t have planned a better riot. Van should be proud.
Arse biscuits!…the lot o’ them!
(*nods to Father Ivan*)

Sports fans? Drunken yobbos? Anarchists? – It’s a shame that nobody in this PC crippled country of hours has the stones to point out who was really behind the riots…

World Cup….How can it be considered a World Cup event…without participation by EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD ? ? ? ?
its a made up idea, in a pathetic attempt to work those fanatics of that sport to see it as somehow the ‘biggest’ or the ‘best’
It’s really just Bullshit with a friendlier label aka -World Cup
More, poking back ~;p
How do you propose they name it then, More? The “Almost-Every-Country-in-the-World-Cup”? Or maybe just list every country that particpates and put the word “Cup” at the end? (Should we list these countries alphabetically or according to population?) I think the reason it’s called the World Cup is because football, (soccer to the great un-washed), is played, followed, loved and obsessed over by pretty much the entire world. I would go so far as to call it the Universal sport. You go to any dirt-poor third world developing country in the world and what do you see the kids, (and adults), doing for fun and activity? Playing football. Sure, the ball may just be a piece of scrap garbage scrounged from somewhere and the goal posts are no more than maybe a pile of stones on the ground to delineate the net but it’s still football. And that’s the beauty of it. You don’t need equipment. You can McGyver together everything you require. The rules are few and simple and anyone, regardless of size, gender, age, ability, etc can play. Now, I don’t follow football, myself. I find it to be just a tad slow for my taste but I definately respect it and understand just how much of an impact it has on the world community. Like I said, it truly is a universal sport. Hmmm…maybe they should call it the Universal Cup.
the captain weighs in http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1kdpD-OcUzI/TBM6…
ITs not obsessed over in this part of the world.
I suppose they could take a page from the US & their ‘Super Bowl’
THeir brand of football may not be super to us either…but at least they’re not misrepresenting themselves & calling it the WORLD cup.
The only sport I can see that presently has a possible right to a ‘world cup’ would be those folks who race small sail boats around the world !
Back to football, or soccer, or kick the round thing about….Universal Cup…are you kidding me ?
The universe is a vastness not easily grasped by humanity in general…& I thought World Cup was stretching it, now you’ve gone & come up with a discription that matches that of a small speedo on a 600 lb man ! ! ! (stretched extremely far)
why not the International Cup ?
Its closer to the truth & we all need a little more truth & a little less bullshit in our lives avast0 , IMO.
Don’t mind More-on, avast0. He can’t see past his own little bubble. And he’s not the brightest crayon in the box so….
Speaking of bubbles — I think NA is in its own little bubble itself (well US and Canada) when it comes to world trends. There are things happening in the world (such as, for example, the idea of ‘soccer’ being huge — ffs we even call it by a different name! lol) that most NA-ers have no idea about!
I bet it was those 400 Tamils that illegally entered Canada last year that started it all. After all, the Tamils in Toronto protested/rioted 2 years ago and shut down a major highway around Toronto.
Can we please STFU about the Vancouver riots already plzkthx?
Universal- Extending over or including the whole of something specified or implied, esp. the whole of a particular group or the whole world; comprehensive, complete; widely occurring or existing, prevalent over all. – Oxford English Dictionary http://www.oed.com
You completely missed my point, More. I suggested name “Universal” to impart the fact that the game is “Universally” played around the world, (see definiton), not LITERALLY played around the universe as in “Milky Way vs. Andromeda”. And while it may not be obsessed over to the same extent here as to most other countries, I would argue that there is still a sizeable group of people in the North American continent who obsess over soccer.
As for your suggestion that sailing is the only sport to have the right to the name “World Cup”, yes, they may sail all over the world, but not every country in the world participates in sailing, which was your original argument in your previous post. You’re kind of contrdicting yourself IMO.
In all fairness, maybe International Cup IS more accurate than World Cup, but my argument is that you would be hard pressed to find somewhere in this World that does not know what football (soccer) is. It’s “Universally” recognized around the “World” (redundant, I know). Don’t take everything so literal.
And as far as the US not misrepresenting itself when it comes to naming sporting events?….hmmm every hear of the World Series, More? World Series….made up of teams for the good ole USA and one from Canada. Yup, that’s MUCH more accurate. Pfft
What’s the the OP calling them protesters? Since when did rioting and looting=protesting?
DERP.
After watching the news last night, my suspicions were confirmed. Everything was cool, till some people came and set that first car on fire. They came prepared with bombs and fire starting devices and they were gonna try and instigate a riot win or lose. They could have cared less about the game.
And let me say this:
If you were going to commit a crime in Vancouver on that particular day, wearing a Canucks shirt is going to make you a lot harder to identify.
That being said yes obviously some hockey fans participated in the riot.
Like I said, when you have that large a group of people, some of them will inevitably be fucktards.
And here’s my two cents on the “world” branding.
It’s not just the world series, in the NBA for example when they win the championship they are named “world champions”
They call them that because the major sports leagues are made up of the best players in the world, therefore the team who wins the championship is the best team in the world.
Seems like a stupid thing to get your shorts in a knot over.
Yeah, poor choice of words there blastbeats to say the least. WHat were they protesting?
Why does 1+1= 2 ?
Why can’t 1+1=11 ?
After all there’s 2 ones there, are there not ?
I believe the reason one is taken to be correct & one isn’t is because of some rule or other in math that allows for any number added together is to give the correct amount of what in reality would be if the formula was
1 apple add 1 apple is 2 apples.
it can never be 11 apples, unless of course you cut the suckers up into 11 pieces.
Same thing applies in my brain with universal, sorry taking it too literally has upset you. But perhaps moving round objects about is more Universal than I first thought & as in your idea about football, seeing as stars & planets are scattered throughout the Universe, they’re round for the most part & they are moving , perhaps Universal fits…now how do we get them all decorated with black spots & logo’s ~;)
I’m sorry, More. I sincerely don’t mean to come across as rude and maybe I’m having a real off day today but… What the heck does anything you just typed have anything to do with what we were debating over? Is anyone else COMPLETELY lost?
don’t apologise clint and take no prisoners http://images.cheezburger.com/completestor…
I’m pretty sure that was More’s strategy.
lol…middle-earth fashion advice duly noted, PG. Thanks. 😉
well, mission accomplished, I guess Orgasmo.
(*leans in closer and whispers “watch this!”*)
I WIN!
U funny More.
P.S World Cup cup is HUGE. Apprx 3 billion ppl tuned in for the opening ceremony last yr. … not that’s amazing! Brazil in 2014, I will be there … mayhaps.
A couple of people wondered what would have happened if Vancouver had won.
– Remembr when the Detroit Pistons won the NBA championship? Friggin insane.
It does appear that some of the fires were planned, and I really do hope that they chatch those assholes.
I also think that most of the rioters were not at the game, but in bars watching it.
Mob psychology and crowd dynamics – Yep, people will do horrible things, as part of an anonymous horde, that they would never normally do. Just add a bit of alcohol, a little noise, someone egging them on, and presto-chango – they become weak-willed lemmings, unthinking violent thugs that lack the ability to form rational thought.
Hey – Our writer laureate has promoted me from a parasite to a turd 🙂 You have such a way with words…NOT.

Annie, I’d say that you’re guilty of ‘Wrath’, if I didn’t already know what an impotent git you really are.
Gotta love the stupidity of rioters and looters (no protesters here), stealing and causing damage all the while being filmed. They may as well been wearing name tags “Stupid Fuck, 1A Dickwad Lane” come arrest me now.
the good samaritan made a crucial mistake. he moved away from the building and out into the crowd
