To the company I work fo…how pathetic are you guys? no matter how bad the weather is outside you will not close! seriously, it’s a fucking snowstorm…do you not care how your employees get to and from work? …we all know the answer is no…we don’t get off until after the buses are off the road so we have to try in vain to get a taxi in the middle of a snowstorm just so you guys won’t lose out on any the money you make from the elderly and addicts…pathetic…when the cops are advising people to stay off the road, maybe it would be nice if you took your employees’ safety into account and close the goddamn place…what a horrible place to work for…for this and many other reasons…and yes, my two weeks will be put in shortly

  1. Poor fucking baby. There are many out there who have to work regardless of the weather. You know cops, firefighters, paramedics, doctors, nurses, technicians, plow drivers, and a host of others. Hell today wasn’t even that bad. Get a good coat and boots and stop your fucking whining.

  2. It took me 2 hours to get home on the bedford hwy from downtown. I left work at 1pm happy for an excuse to get off early. I wish I stayed at work until 4 so all the idiots got home first. People in this city are too stupid to drive in good conditions. There was 2 cars pulled to the side of the road probably cause they were scared and there was a collision at Tim Horton’s past MSVU. Stay the fuck home if you know a storm is coming

  3. It’s probably in an organization’s best interest to close during a snow storm. It improves employee morale which, in turn, is a great PR boost for the organization (because when your employees are trashing your organization, how does THAT look?)

Employee communications in most organizations suck ass.

  4. If it bugs you that much, call in sick. Employers still make money even in a storm, people still come in to buy stuff. There would be such a huge outcry if people went to go to a retailer and then weren’t able to buy groceries or a TV in the middle of a storm.

  5. People like firefighters and nurses have to work because they HAVE TO WORK. I assume the OP works in a non-essential industry, in which case making them stay at work simply because others have to makes no sense.

“There would be such a huge outcry if people went to go to a retailer and then weren’t able to buy groceries or a TV in the middle of a storm.”
Really? I heard the malls were closed early today. Who goes to buy a TV in the middle of a snowstorm?

  6. MR– I used to work at a large Canadian electronics retailer, and during some of the worst storms we still had people streaming in to buy TVs. I never understood it, but people will do it.

  7. OP, grow up. It’s called life. You can put in your two weeks. But guess what, your next job will probably be the same. It’s like that where ever you work. And, if the employer does decide to close down, it will already be two late and youe will have to spend two hours in traffic for what normally takes 30 minutes.

I’m glad I stayed until four yesterday. It was not that bad coming home.

  8. in the six years ive worked for my company theyve shutdown once for a day and half due to snowstorms. that was during white juan. 2004 i believe. the only reason they did close at all was because of slow power restoration.

and frankly im quite glad they dont shutdown often. no pay for me at this job if im snowed in. so OP its not such a unique “problem” to work for an employer hesitant to close shop every time the snow flys.

  9. ours didn’t even stop during white juan.
    Power on = you’re working.
they had to pay for some hotel rooms, since there was an adjacent one near by and no-one was going to be going anywhere so business went right on as usual.

  10. Suck it up sweetheart welcome to the grown up world. Just because it snows doesn’t mean everything has to close down. If the buses are running then expect to work. By 430 yesterday the road weren’t that bad at all. Maybe you should have said to your employer “I’m going home without pay because I feel the roads are too dangerous.”

  11. It’s February, and we live in Canada. We can’t shut everything down every time it snows. Why have we become such winter wimps? Invest in some good boots, proper outerwear, and suck it up.

  12. People in Halifax are so scared of snow it’s crazy. Sure some bus services were running late etc, but shit, I’m not even from this country and I’m surprised at the way stuff is run here! The place I work doesn’t shut down – regarldess of weather.

Suck it up OP. Stop wearing your Uggs and thin coat. It’s still winter.

  13. I work for the military. The boss sent all non essential staff in the city home just before 2pm (around 5000 to 10,000 employees civilian and military). I love working for the government.

  14. I left work at 6pm, and on my walk home I was surprised at how many retail shops were closed, because while it wasn’t fun to walk home in, it was far better than I expected. They didn’t even close schools from what I heard, so they shouldn’t be closing stores.
