To the parking enforcement officer who came by long lake on Monday evening: your arbitrary dispensing of tickets should see you lose your job.
Formal parking at the lake doesn’t meet even a quarter of the demands for space, so people park on the side of the road. Easy. However, I saw approx. 20 vehicles with tickets on them for being ‘in the bike lane’ when many were barely touching the line. People aren’t parked touching the lane because they want to be jerks to bikers, they are parked there because the alternative would be pulling further over into the adjacent ditch.
It is too bad when the people ‘responsible for ensuring public safety’ are dangerously irrational. —give me a break!

Too bad you couldn’t park further out to where there was more space. You parked wrong so you get ticketed. Pretty well end of story.
Maybe you could complain to possibly Parks Canada (or the proper authority) for a bigger car lot….*pffft*
A recent trip to Salvation Army for discount rubbers (boots) left me with a ticket
Total time in-store = 4.5minutes
Boots = $6.00
Ticket for parking out front = $25 (and a sad face)
Alas….
I am a fool
They’ll be making a run out to Long Lake every sunny day now that they know they can score lots of tickets. I got a ticket issued one time at 5:59pm after parking my car at 5:50pm on a side street that had no parking for 4pm to 6pm so they show no mercy. Glad I was licensed in another province at the time though 😉
I hate the fuckers that park on or near the bike lane along long lake and nothing brings me a wider grin than biking by a stream of cars with white tickets flapping under the wiper blades.
Look, it isn’t the parking enforcement officers problem or fault that a) the city made a small parking lot, even though it did cost $38,000 to do so, or b) that parking in or on a bike lane is a ticketable offense.
But hey, guess fucking what? Within a 2-5 minute walk of Long Lake is a Provincial CarPool Parking lot capable of handling many (I don’t know how many) many many cars.
So park over there. Or take a bus, theres a bus stop right there. OR, ride a bike. Or anything else besides parking in one of the few bike lanes in this city that actually makes sense and does some good.
I honestly expected a bitch about this long ago. What took so long?
Hey, maybe ‘the city’ can rip out a pile of trees and put a bigger parking lot up. Maybe they can spend, oh I don’t know, $150,000 this time and make one 3 or 4 times as big. Like Crystal Crescent beach big. They don’t have a very deep ownership of the park (DNR has that) but they have enough running parallel to the Bay Road that they could raze all the trees and give you fuckers somewhere to stash your cars. Cars not Trees! That will be our rally cry.
Heh, sorry, I’m honestly not one of those eco-wanks. Just having fun.
I drove past Long Lake on the last scorching Sunday and saw the parking guy dishing out tickets like confetti. There were 2 young guys on the right hand side of the road, as you head into town, that took the avoid parking fees a bit too seriously, their car slid into the ditch and they had to get a tow truck to get out. I took a pic, but aint smart enuff to know how to post it.
i was in a line of traffic on a SATURDAY afternoon. And i was the only car that got a ticket. I absolutely plan to contest this. It wasn’t in front of a hydrant or driveway. There were no signs (No parking was enforced only on weekdays) and the cars parked in front of and behind me were all ticket free.
Maybe they ran out of tickets before they could ticket the other douches? Parking in a bike lane is against the law. They don’t have to post signs (though sometimes they do just to give you stupid people a hint) for it to be enforceable.
the parking there is pitiful, but…..parking on the bike line is putting the cyclists in danger.
For the life of me, I’ll never understand people who park illegally, know they parked illegally, and then bitch and moan about getting a parking ticket for parking illegally.
Then why don’t they ever ticket the tour buses that are always parked in the bike lane in front of the Lord nelson?
So, you park illegally and don’t expect a ticket, right?
