Why can’t city hall think out of the box and ticket cars parked on the street ONLY if the snow flies or the announcement of snow. If cars are still there when the plow comes by, instead of paying cops 80k per annum to give out tickets, hire someone at $10 per hour to drive with the plow and pass out tickets to the car that is obstructing the plow. Have the cops do what we are paying them big money for, SOLVE CRIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! After all we haven’t seen the plows that much this year. I guess Kelly is saving us money while we wait for the wrecker to pull us back on the road because the plows didn’t come by yet this afternoon. I guess the money spent on body repairs is not a deficit on the city budget. City hall and the small minded councillors are committing the real crime here. —CRITIC#1

Since the Coast still lets me say this….An election is coming, we no longer have to worry about Kelly coming back, so now let each & everyone of us vote for someone besides who we presently have as councillors. We need to vote out every single one of them & its even better IMO there be even less of them than we have now .
SO by cutting back how many imbecils we have in council we are already ahead.
Can you understand what kind of message this would send to politicians in Nova Scotia, if they know fucking up won’t mean automatic re-election…THe heavens may shift & a couple of them may actually start working for real & looking out for the tax payer for a change.
After all we the voters are only their bosses on election day the rest of the time we’re just a fucking pain in their asses, we try to watch where they waste money, we complain when they give themselves outrageous perks & raises…so on election day ACT LIKE A BOSS & fire them at the ballot box.

People bitched and it was changed from Nov-Mar every day, inclusive )snow or not) to we will announce when the ban happens, which they do. Of course they could go back to the old way. It’s not like there isn’t any warning.
I agree it seems like a money grab when we don’t get the snow we use to get.

Sometimes they have to brine or salt the streets in case of freezing or slick roads, when there inst a snowstorm. For example, after a rainstorm when the temperature plummets… If they give notice find a place for your car! Or have a blanket ban. That is what the alternative is, and I’d think it’s much more costly for the vast majority of people in a blanket ban situation…
From what I’ve seen, the current method doesn’t seem to be terribly effective…
Right from the HRM website about the parking ban:
“This year, the overnight parking regulations, which can be implemented anytime between Dec. 15 and March 31, will only be enforced during declared snow and ice operations and, when the parking ban is in effect, it will run from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. – ending one hour earlier than in previous years.
HRM will make every effort to give residents 24 hours notice of when the ban will take effect when forecasts allow.
Please remember: Provincial legislation (Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act) provides that people remove their vehicles from the streets, day or night, in the event of a snow or ice event.
Vehicles obstructing snow removal or winter maintenance operations can be removed at the owner’s cost, regardless of time or date.”
For fuck sakes, I just paid 700 dollars to renew my license because of three years of winter parking ban tickets (and some stupid open liquour fine from 1992). Finally they institute a sensible parking ban system and all I hear are stupid people complaining. How many nights did you actually have to find accomodations for your car this year? What, maybe thre or four nights of the entire winter this year, and you’re complaining? You are one of the ones who deserve to have your car towed you fucking dolt!!! Try going back to the old system where you have to make arrangments from Dec to April, and that’s exactly where we’ll be next year if stupid people don’t obey the ban this year. What part of trial parking ban don’t you understand??????????????????????
