To the 3 Dept. of Transportation employees that use the 3 handicapped Parking spaces on Granville St. for their own free parking, it is time to move. Every week day these 3 park in spaces and rotate vehicles every 3 hours. I have talked to the parking attendents who have advised me this is what they do daily. As one that comes to the area once a week for a meeting, and needs handicapped parking, I see you there all day, all week. You do not even have a handicapped license but use the rear view mirror tag that is for your “other” car, or for use when a passenger is handicapped. I end up walking long distances with a crutch right past you as you have your SMOKE before you move! There is a bylaw in Halifax that can be used to give a ticket to a person that parks on the same street for more than the limited posted time in one spot. Why can’t it be used to move these parking BULLIES to a nice impound? Shame on the Dept. of Transport for allowing their employees to abuse handicapped parking spaces.

Call DOT, don’t whine about it here.
Get pics and send to ATV, CBC, Global, The Coast, Metro, and Chronicle Herald. Also send the pictures to the Halifax Police and Parking Enforcement. If none of this works, let the air out of their tires.
And who’s to say that one of them isn’t handicapped and needs the space? You might get a surprise from DOT and learn this just might be so. Just because one is not in a wheelchair or is a goverment employee does not mean they aren’t handicapped. All levels of government have many employees who are considered handicapped.
The worse thing of all is clearly the fact that they have a SMOKE *gasp* before they move!
Isn’t there some law being broken here? I mean SMOKING, my GOD, think of the children!

On a related note; a friend of my late wife’s (my wife was handicapped) didn’t see anything wrong in using her late Mothers handicapped sticker – I turned her in, I depise people like that
If they work for government, does that not make them handicapped?
Their smoking is not an issue, the fact that they can STAND around and do it without any problem walking/standing and then decide on who moves to which spot does indicates they do not have a major disability. Let’s face it, they are getting free parking with someones mirror tag while the rest of fools pay at the meters and the disabled cannot use the spots for their appointments. And yes, I have talked to parking enforcement who say they are helpless – I say use the LAW. Great advice though, I have my camera ready for this week and will be taking pictures and am taking them to the folks you suggest. Thanks so much!
