I’m getting sick of the increasing number of buses parked in the travel lane on Willett St. near the Dunbrack intersection. By parking there they are blocking visibility for vehicles trying to get out of their parking lots. If Metro Transit asked people who live in the area about using this spot as a terminal (officially it isn’t one) they would tell them to get out of their neighbourhood. Northcliff is closed, that is where they should be parked. Bus terminals don’t belong in the middle of high density residential neighbourhoods. —Blocked In By Buses

  1. So bus terminals should be in low populated industrial parks? Where the hell should they be if they shouldn’t be were a large amount of people are?

  2. “Bus terminals don’t belong in the middle of high density residential neighbourhoods” – that’s exactly where they should be.

My advice, slow down, pay attention, and develop some patience

  3. I know what OP is talking about — the out of service busses will round the corner from lacewood-dunbrack-willett and park while waiting to go back in service. It usually happens when there’s quite a bit of room between the end of a route and the beginning.

However, there’s nothing you can really do about it, OP. I understand your frustration, but busses are allowed to park there if they so choose. Parking at Northcliffe is an excellent option, however, I’m not sure if they have authorization from HRM to do so.

In any event, bus terminals do belong in the middle of high density neighbourhoods. I’m a little pissed they’re not putting the new Lacewood terminal up by the CGC because it would be oh so convenient for me and would really help those of us who live around parkland because getting a connection from the current terminal up there, especially at night, is a pain in the rear.

OMG I actually know where this is!

  5. some stop on the dutch village section across from the new freemans to keep their timing too….
    pisses me off.

  6. Yeah. That’s the 21. It tends to do it on my route home because traffic’s mellow around 6-ish. Pisses me off too. So much so that I’m inclined to just wait for the 35 at SS instead of getting on the 21 that comes first. I actually get home around the same time with less walking (esp now that the snow’s gone and I can just hop like a little bunny over the snowless bank) ^_^

PS: I’m still waiting for that tiger blood, zed. You promised 🙁

  7. I understand your frustrations, OP. I’m a frequent rider of buses in that area myself, usually the 35, but that is really the only place that they can park in between their routes.

  8. That was supposed to be a “temporary” terminal, with an actual terminal to be in place in the mid 90’s I think… Regardless, yeah it sucks and the buses get really congested but in terms of being close to users, I think the location is right. Why not take half of the shoppers or sobeys parking lots and build a new terminal there? (money notwithstanding…. im sure metro transit is pretty thin with all the new terminal/garage building)

  9. Damn, estimatedwarbear — we’re probably bus buddies.

    I’m sorry for that 🙁

The problem with the parking lot being used is, they’d have to acquire the land from Centrecorp, and I’m not too sure if they’re be willing to part with it. I mean, they get lots of revenue from their lease holders, who would be none too pleased if they gave up half their parking space — that parking lot gets busy really fast. I was down there at 9am this past Saturday and it was already pretty busy 🙁

I want the damn thing up by the CGC. I know i said it before (broken record, yahyah), but I think it would be a wonderful way to make the centre accessable to the greater community. Well, community who doesn’t want to go swimming there — fecking pool is always at capacity. Best to call ahead.

Anyway, it’s a nightmare at that terminal around rush hour. Sometimes the drivers’ll let you off a bit farther back, but some’ll just sit there and wait for another one to move… meanwhile you’re sitting there looking at the bus you need to transfer onto and can’t DO anything because the driver won’t let you off because you’re on the other side of the sidewalk… and you KNOW the bus you need is the one that’s going to leave while you’re stuck on that stupid bus waiting to get off. And then you get to wait for another bus that’ll get you up the hill, but oh no, they’re all scheduled in clusters, so you get to sit and wait forever for another bus (usually the 52 *shudder*) that’s usually late.

    Sorry for the rant, guys.

  10. so o.p., you’re getting sick of the number of buses using the lacewood terminal. guess what? i’m getting sick of some fucking idiots, post them every third or fourth day. how the fuck does that grab ya?

  11. OP, we were instructed that when we park there, we are to park far enough back of the driveways so as to not affect visibility. There’s a “no stopping” sign approx. at the distance suggested to us. That said, until a new terminal is built, it’s the best we can do.

Still, tearing down a park to build a terminal? Did we not learn from the first time that was suggested.

  12. Oh seb …

And LS that display pic is so disgusting. I don’t even … the little acne spots really make the piece …

  13. They do that in Dartmouth on Thistle street too and it is a piss off. They gotta park somewhere tho. Nobody likes Metro Transit
