  1. Canada always chokes. Its what we do. I feel really bad for all the athletes who had to stand up to the “own the podium” and all other advertising for the Olympics. They are under performing. And its no wonder with all the pressure they must be under trying to live up to these unreal expectations that canada has set for them.

  2. I wouldn’t say we choke… we’re consistently fighting for medals and own the 4th/5th spots nearly every time now.
if there were a … what comes in after bronze???
I dunno, steel and aluminum say,..
we’d be getting WAY more medals.

  3. Man, anyone see the Canadian girl who lost the skeleton race. Is it just me, or was that a bit extreme. Yes maybe after the race, a few tears, but to do an interview days later crying again saying how hard it was just to get out of bed, and how she just missed it by a foot. It’s the fucking Olympics dude, a foot is a big difference. It is also a competition, hence the losing that happens sometimes.

yeah yeah yeah, I’m an emotionless bitch..but seriously, suck it up buttercup.

  4. Haha- 25 to 28 medals I believe? Great projection. Nothing like telling your athletes what you expect of them to show the true spirit of the Olympics. Each day they come closer and closer to not living up to that, must feel really good. I mean, fuck, Jenn Heil didn’t LOSE the gold medal, she WON silver……. for Canada! Well, just thank god that the Ghanaian Olympic committee didn’t project a medal count of one….

  5. How many homeless people will their winning help ?
How many sick children will be cured by this ?
Will their winning help our soldiers & other Canadians serving abroad ?
Does their winning mean taxes will go down ? or gas prices ?
What exactly will their winning a game accomplish for all of Canada ?
    Right ,absolutely NOTHING.
IT is a stupid game played by children who’ve never had to grow up & held a responsible job, & because of even larger group of idiots who’ve also not grown up ,but because they wish they could waste their time accomplishing NOTHING as well , continue to support & spend ridiculous sums to watch these bozo’s play !
How pathetic your life must be when a game played by others effects you !
    Grow up get a life.

  6. not to mention the entire us team… all 23 of em are NHLers.
we only have just over half getting paid ridiculous amounts to play a game for a living…

meh, I’d rather we beat that US Opollo Ono speed skater than get a single gold in hockey.
there’s WAY more speed skating events to take medals in.

  7. What More…. did someone come to you and tell you that saving the world was your destiny? Maybe what they forgot to tell you is that you have to save the cheerleader first………

  8. I do totally agree with the fact that we are doing great in the Olympics. I’ve been saying it since the beginnings. We are forth in the world, not a bad accomplishment.

  9. Angel… that is not ENTIRELY accurate. We are fourth amongst the nations that are competing in the Olympics (82 of them)… Countries like Ethiopia, Cuba, Vanuatu, Madagascar……. who knows how medal counts would be affected if they had’ve come to the party…….

  10. We outplayed the US consistently in the 2nd and 3rd periods but they had the hot goalie. It was a bummer, but we’re not out of the running yet.

  11. Yes, and pardon my ignorance, but wouldn’t they have had to qualify to get there. And if they had people good enough from those countries to qualify, why wouldn’t they? Obviously taking money put towards training and what not into consideration.

  12. they had their chance… it was open to everyone and if they don’t qualify…
ah well. how the hell would CUBA practice?
    waterski a slalom course??

  13. haha Angel… it was actually a joke based on the geographic locations of these countries and their almost CERTAIN inability to compete in competitions based on, well, snow and ice….. LOL. Man, this must be bizarro-week cause people seem to be taking me seriously 😉 Well, I’ll grant you pardon nonetheless….haha

  14. yes jennier- btw… they definitely did have the hot goalie. And we WOULD HAVE also had a hot goalie if they had’ve started Luongo like every couch-potato hockey coach in the country has been saying since the start. HE, likely, would not have tried to impersonate Barry Bonds at a crucial moment in the game.

  15. The US does have an amazing goalie. Canada did play alright in the 2nd and 3rd periods, but in the Olympics, against a team as good as the US, its just not good enough. I was hoping they learned that lesson in their game with the swiss. They need to come in strong and stay consistent. If they played the whole game like they played in the last 2 minutes, this bitch wouldn’t exsist.

  16. haha Basil… Eddie would have tried to pull the same cricket-type bullshit move Brodeur did. If anyone was horrible at coming out of their crease to play the puck it was him…LOL. I still have his rookie card though…

virgomom, i think a little bit has to do, as well, with the calibre of players you see playing for the Americans. I mean, the Canadians are chalk-full of superstars and goal-scorers… highly offensive players. The Americans are filled with everybody. Natural scorers, hitters, offensive zone grinders… Some are the second and third-liners on their respective NHL teams who know how to get it done. As much as I wish I could say Canada will be on top of that podium come next week, I would be labeled an extreme optimist if I did.

Nonetheless, I hope that they find their rhythm against Germany cause if not, we’ll be singin’ a sad, sad song come the end of the tournament.

  17. More- take a pill dude. These people do have a life. They train their asses off, work part time to support themselves and will accomplish more in 20 years than you will your whole fucking life.

  18. oh no sucks say it aint so…you’re commenting on an olympic thread, deep breaths baby it will be over soon

  19. OH, AND BY THE WAY, REMEMBER I TOLD YOU BEFORE, IT WAS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. AND NOW ALL THE BIG HOPEFULS, COME BACK HOME AS BIG LOSERS, AGAIN. MAYBE THEY SHOULDN’T LET THE U.S. WIN NEXT TIME. HARPER, YOU NEED TO TELL THEM THAT, TELL ALL THOSE FOOLS, NEXT TIME TO ACTUALLY WIN. BUT WHO REALLY GIVES A FUCK, NOT ME. YAY THEY REALLY SUCK, AGAIN.

  20. If by accomplishing something, you mean being able to put a small rubber disc into a goal area…you obviously have some pretty small goals in this life.
I actually played hockey when I was a kid.
Then I grew up & got a job, then opened a business,as a partner & then opened another one on my own. Being a hockey sports player is akin to being a weather man.
You don’t actually have to accomplish anything.
It doesn’t seem to matter when everthing you do goes to shit.
But the Bozo’s who worship these idiots, are the first ones up screaming that something needs to be done, if a police officer fucks up , or a fireman, doctor, Gov official.
But their hockey team screws up & its ok ….what a crock of shit, these guy’s contribute absolutely NOTHING to our country, except elitism, for some who can run faster or had family with enough money to allow them to concentrate on a sport, when others are making their way to making a difference for others.
You who base your moods & life by the actions of a sporting team are nothing but IMO a bunch of armchair warriors aka- losers.

  21. jonoman – complete agreement with you on the Luongo issue. I expect he’ll start in our game with Germany.

  22. Geez, lose one game in hockey and we just plain suck? It wasn’t even a medal game. Calm down OP, it’s a sporting event.

  23. “If by accomplishing something, you mean being able to put a small rubber disc into a goal area…you obviously have some pretty small goals in this life.

Question: What’s the average NHL salary?

Answer: For the 2007-08 season, the average NHL salary was just over $1.9 million, a record high.

    http://proicehockey.about.com/od/collectiv…

    Just like a weatherman. *facepalm*

  24. That’s what these guys get for looking too far ahead. First the Swiss almost make cheese out of them and then the Yanks did. But how about those two goals Crosby made?

  25. I’m just wondering why we are acting like we only have two goalies. As a Canucks fan, I know how much Luongo sucks when it counts, so putting him in an Olympic game is a terrible idea. We tried that in 2002… and Brodeur just doesn’t give a crap anymore. Does anyone remember we still have Fleury? He’s young, and while his NHL stats are the worst of the three, he plays superb when it counts. He DID help win a Stanley Cup not too long ago…

  26. sarey- you are correct. Fleury has definitely proven himself in a way that Luongo has yet to do by winning a Stanley Cup. Definitely more than to deserve a third-string status. But, face it, Canada is full of talent when it comes to hockey players. I definitely have a weaker spot than most for Fleury coming from Cape Breton and having made his acquaintance when he played for the Eagles. I guess that’s why I would not envy being the coach for the Canadians, or being the GM having to select the players. Anyone could step up and steal the show at any point in time.

  27. at this point we should be up for suggestions…

leave buddy in net and replace the defencemen with our two spare goalies.
we’d have double defense from both sides from acclaimed guys who want to get in the way every time.

  28. I just wish we’d dump our money into programs that get fat kids active and healthier and not into things like, say, curling or grown men tobaganning down a fucking roller coaster ride.

  29. One thing to keep in mind that money spent on big events and/or by wealthy people is still money being spent in the economy. I think Vancouver and BC will benefit in the long rung from having had the Olympics. It is a big milestone for them.

A lot of very regular people are making good money while all those visitors are in their city: the shop owners, their extra staff, the bartenders, restaurant servers, taxi drivers, just to name a few.

Money doesn’t do anything unless it circulates, and big events like this do swirl a lot of money around. It doesn’t all just get sucked up by the IOC. Also, there will be some upgraded facilities left in place after the games, many of which will be useful to the general population.

And don’t begrude the gazillionaires for having an obscure talent that happens to pay well in a particular time and place. If I could do what they do, I’d do it too. Wealthy people also spend what they earn (on clothing, food, cars, house construction, and all the other things they can afford to buy) and a huge organization like the NHL keeps a tremendous number of ordinary people employed at above average salaries.

  30. Life Sucks…I don’t mean to come across as ‘sports suck’, I believe Sports are great for kids, they don’t harm adults either & they are definately a great form of exercise. But the so called Professional sports & olympics are B.S. who fucking cares.
Nothing at all, NOTHING from the Olympics, is going to cure a desease. Is going to help the homeless situation in this country, or help our Medical System, it’ll do nothing for the education system & in fact all the BILLIONS of our Tax Dollars squandered by Politicians on this farce could have been better spent. If we had tons of extra money. If we didn’t have children & people living below the poverty line, if we didn’t have homelessness & Seniors who’ve worked their whole lives losing their homes because they can’t afford to pay more & more taxes now that they’re on fixed incomes. If medicine wasn’t so expensive that for many ,noncoverage means death… IF THESE PROBLEMS DIDN’T EXIST, I’d be saying LETS HOST A HUGE SPORTING SPECTACLE.
But these problems are with us…long before the first dollar was wasted on these games & they’ll be here long after the games are over & we’re still paying off the debt these games have placed us in !
IF every so called sporting fan refused to pay more than $10.00 for a seat at a professional game, let us see how long these guy’s would make million dollar salaries. They make the money they do because stupid people are brainwashed into thinking putting a ball or puck into a goal has some significance, when actually it has none. So by their own stupidity, the cost has gone up & as long as they’re stupid enough to keep paying more, they’ll keep being charged more. (& they deserve it)

  31. Hey, if it wasn’t for the high performance events we wouldn’t have people willing to let us test growth hormones and other things on. The olympics has probably saved many a rabbit from a gruesome fate.

  32. Yes Broc
And that’s why you and all the other fools, will continue to pay through the nose for….absolutely nothing of value & still convince yourselves you got a great deal…L O L !
man did the level of stupid go up yet again ? I believe a few more sports enthusiasts have just entered the site !

  33. More: What went wrong with you man? Seriously.

Now before you snap back with some quick comeback, think about my question.

When do you decide that your opinions are ideals? Despite the fact that they go against the majority of what people enjoy doing in their spare time. We’re talking about leisure and entertainment for fuck sakes lol. So what if people enjoy cheering for a game in a social environment that brings people together?

You are so bitter you’re transparent. It’s obvious you just need something to hate on if you’re criticizing hockey in CANADA.

“And that’s why you and all the other fools, will continue to pay through the nose for….absolutely nothing of value & still convince yourselves you got a great deal…L O L !”

Did you really lol at yourself there? Because people enjoy spending their money on something you don’t agree with?

    You’re a lost cause man.

When hockey dies out in Canada (lol), i’ll come back here and say “man, that More fella was right all along.”

In the mean time, you’re still a fucking jackass. Post some more of your opinions and LOL at them, if that’s what makes you feel better about yourself. 🙂

  34. jstyle…like I said previously the level of stupid has increased.
join the majority man. If people weren’t gullible & easily lead. Government’s would never get away with what they do. Sporting events are a good example of mindless sheep, going along with the herd mentality.Anyone who truely believes that billions of our Tax dollars being spent in one tiny area of 1 Province, is good for the whole country is a MORON.
The present Government has stopped the working of Government of our Nation for over 2 months & are using the Olympics as part of their excuse !
The sporting events of today mirror, with a little less violence the Gladiator games of yesteryear & are for the same purpose, give the brain dead something else to consider, something that can be easily manipulated & get their minds off what’s truely important…the welfare of EVERYONE in the Country. Not a select few. Not those with more than enough, hell how many people are out on the streets because of hotel & rental places wanting to cash in on those who’ll pay exorbinate amounts of money to go see this stuff, the same stuff they could stay comfortably at home & see…that’s mental illness jstyle & denial changes nothing.

  35. wow thats a big flag, i love flags…when i was wee i looked them up in the encyclopedia…i wonder if the folks bought them from a door to door salesman

  36. Oh More All Mighty! How could we be so wrong. Please accept our humble praise and allow us to accept our penance as you see fit.

  37. Call us crazy… Some of us enjoy watching countrymen who have succceeded in an activity that isn’t Guitar Hero. A little bit of publicity for people other than useless celebs or fucknut politicians is overdue.

  38. Think what a better world it would be if we all had cookies and milk about three o’clock every afternoon and then lay down on our blankets for a nap 🙂

  39. wtf are we thinking anywho; the US is like what 15 times the size of us; i didn’t think for one minute we would do better than we are which is pretty damn good in the big picture

  40. martym, we’re bigger… but unfortunately size doesn’t matter.
They have their people all crammed in tuna can apartments where you get a kitchen/bathroom.
Yep, seen it. you can make an omelet while soaking in a soothing bath.
grill some salmon while taking a shower.
fry bacon while expelling last nights bean burrito.

sounds like a real time-saver there.

  41. I feel bad for people who don’t enjoy/like/know sports…what a way to live! If there were no sports, what would be the point of living??
And men who don’t like sports…..I’ll never understand you.

More, stop sleeping with kay ASAP, befor it’s too late!
