You change your name and put me out of work… could you not find me something else in one of your 8 other stores? I gave you 10 years of hard work and this is how you repay me, with the employment line? One of the top companies to work for? Right… go fuck yourself… —Totally Pissed

  1. I watched my dad die at 61 a loyal company man and they fucked him royally for that, reducing his pension to my mother because he died two weeks before his official retirement date – he worked his ass off for them, overtime, Saturdays and that was their repayment. I was 17 and never forgot that very valuable lesson. No company deserves loyalty when their bottom-line are profits and a perfect employee can become shit on the company shoe in the time it takes to say ‘keepontruckingtruckingondownthelineisaidheyheyheykeepontruckingtruckingmybluesaway’. May you learn from this wretched experience. Only give what you’re getting paid for, nothing more, nothing less. Above all, don’t be bitter – this happens more often than you think.

  2. big name stores have a habit of doing this shit, fuck them o.p., i’m sure you will find somthing a lot better sooner, good luck from the suckster.

  3. I used to work with pension plans and though it’s terrible, but if someone dies before their earliest unreduced retirement date (as stipulated by the plan) there is nothing that anyone can do about it. Plan administrators have zero lea-way with regards to this sort of thing. Everyone is treated the same, that’s the law.

I had some hard phone calls with surviving spouses with regards to the amount of pension benefits that they’d be receiving, which is certainly one of the reasons I had to leave the line of work.

My point is that you can’t entirely place the blame on the company for pension legislation that they have little to no control over.

  4. Getting laid off sucks moose balls. Especially when you’ve been told that you’d be staying on, even after the recession we’ve had. It’s frustrating, and demeaning to say the least. But that’s what EI is there for, and there is no shame in using it. Especially when you realize all the money you put into it.

  5. Atlantic Superstore to Frills store bitch? Instead of bitching about being layed off, how about telling us what you did or what opinions you were given by the company. Did you even ask if you could be transferred to another store?

  6. I hope you contacted a lawyer or at least the labour board, you are owed a severants package. If they did not give you a reason you have a reason to sue.
