I do not understand how people can let their cats outside to roam free. Forget about how outdoor cats annoy the neighbours by digging in gardens, what about the safety of the cat? This morning on my drive to work there was a poor cat who presumably been hit by a car near Barrington and Duffus and died. There are too many hazards out there to let your cats roam free. The average life of an indoor cat is 12 years, but an outdoor cat averages 5 years, I know I would much rather have my two cats around for 12 years instead of 5. —Cat Lover

The average life of a teenager in that same neighbourhood is less than that of a cat!
No one likes a flat cat:(
I don’t know….There seems to be a market for them, Oceanchick.

In all seriousness, I agree 100% with the OB. Keep your cat(s) in the bloody house where they are safe. If you must take them outside, either leash them or put them in a kennel of some sort.
You may think that you are doing them a favour by letting them roam free but you’re unnecessarily risking their lives, all 9 of them.
Haha! I’ll file that one under ‘stuff you wish you never knew’ Avast0-booger. Pretty funny though…haha!
i have lived with inside cats, and cats who went outside at will. but only in the country would i let them outside. never in the city. except my last old man, the Boog. he was inside for the first 12 years, then started going out, and kept in the yard, except when he started hanging around with that young neighbour, Jasper, who taught him to run around the neighbourhood by using the rooftops, and how to get into people’s upper floor bedrooms through open windows. leaving fur on their designer duvet covers. hysterical yuppie fallout. the Boog was a social butterfly, and attended many movie industry parties in the ‘hood.
the last two cats we had would get out in the yard and then flop down on the grass and purr, so i’d just go out and pick them up. our newly adopted kitty, loves being inside but i know if given the chance he would book it. now he is sporting a reflective collar with a bell and a name tag with phone numbers
both Di and i are sorely missing having cats in the house, but….are going to wait til we get even further out. i don’t want to be anywhere near a road. and because we have the dogs now, may have to start at the kitten stage. so we wait. doors are open all the time til snow flies.
these are the same ones that would never go hunting and only eat veggies probly.
the spca wasn’t sure how old this guy is, 5/6 months was their guess. he is good company after the death of the hound
Careful with letting kitties out in the country as well. They have a devasting effect on the local fauna. Not to mention becoming a snack for coyotes.
*weary sigh* Here we go again…
brend, you check out google’s home page today?
right up your alley.
If you were a cat, I think you’d have a different opinion.
But yeah, I agree, keep the flea bags inside so they don’t infest your crib and ultimately the metro transit system.
My cat is 13 and has been an outdoor cat since she was 2. She always scratches at the door, gets let in and then uses the litterbox.. the first 2 years of training have stopped the outdoor shits thank goodness. She doesnt roam far and loves soaking up the sun on the warm patio flagstones.. she rolls back and forth like a dog actually.. thats her biggest joy in life it seems. I’m not about to take that away from her. If she gets hit by a car, then she wasnt clever enough to get off the road. Lets not forget that animals all started off outdoors…
yes trood, sadly aware of both points. i lost a cat to raccoons, they tore her head open. coyotes, strangely, never bothered the cats. altho they would steal the food bowls when i was feeding outside. even a cast iron frying pan.
i know cats hunt, for sport, although i haven’t had such a cat. perhaps some of the inside cats would have been hunters, but since they were inside cats, would never know. Fang-fang, i betcha she would have been a hunter if let outside. she destroyed every plant in the house, could open cupboards and loathed curtains. but all outside cats in the most recent 30 years have been male. and thundering fools. puss-cat would only hunt metal clothes hangers, and the Boog hunted wood. decorative cedar chunks, fir boughs, twigs. he had a lovely yowl of triumph coming through the window with his prizes. i suspect female cats make much better hunters. a friends cat brought a wee mousie to Boog, mousie had been disabled with a broken leg and could only go in circles. Booger ran. females are bloody minded, i think it’s something to do with having to do ‘the necessary’ to raise children. gad, doing a holden caulfield again.
Duffus and Barrington = Mulgrave Park = ghetto = almost nobody cares for their kids let alone their cats. Also, there are many stray cats, it could have been one. I do agree that if you own a cat, you should keep it inside.
Obviously the owners of these cats do not care about the cats. Anyone who truly cares about there cats do not let them roam the streets freely.
Sloths rule J’Yo! That is when they finally get to it.
who said you own cats? ha! cats own human servants.
If I let my cats out, someone would steal them.
True story.
If Oscar ever wishes to defect, Ivanistan is prepared to offer him full asylum. You missed a good summit, PK. Except for the 45 minutes of loud Warner Brothers cartoon jazz. The phrase Zoot Suit Riot was bandied about and not in a complimentary manner. Brendon got propositioned by a Bridle party (mis-spelling intended), Tommy declined to offer to be a male stripper for them, a lovely and funny Hostess now believes she’s discovered a nest of Hali-Furries, and Boru showed exceptional courage and is now a full-fledged member of the Legion of the Damned. Great success

PK Thanks for the RSVP.
I wish your father a speedy recovery.
Ivan Thanks guy’s, I had a great time.Everyone was so nice and funny as hell. <3
Good for you for going to Summit, Boru!
I’ll see you at the next one.
P
Lovely to meet you, Boru – awesome summit with the only downside being the absence of our Fearless Leader, PK, and Painey. The music kept me fearful of flying anvils and Acme products. Best part of the night – the waitress with the puzzled pretty puss trying to figure out which ‘secret society’ we were.
…hope Wheelie, Avast, Biscuit and the rest of our fine Summit regulars can make it for the next one. Wheelie, I hope you’re saving a whiff of your finely scented self for moi.
I WILL BE AT THE NEXT ONE I PROMISE, GUYS.
It was so sad — dad was all “goooo you should go” and then woke up around 7 and came out all sad and beat up looking and said “I’m glad you didn’t go” in this sad little voice and today he gave me money for an apple (seriously, of all things, an apple). I think the airbags knocked things around a little upstairs.
And I never had any doubt Boru would come out and rock da par-tay. From what I’ve read of her posting lately, she’s not afraid to get out there on her own. Make sure you make it to the next one!!
Don’t give up on me yet, gang. I’m wishing I could have made this one, cuz I love Stayners and it turned out to be a gorgeous evening. I’m glad to hear it went so well and good to hear Boru made it to this one! Hope to meet you in person at the next one.
Speaking of which, could we have another one sooner rather than later? lol
*sniff* I miss you guys! *sniff*
It’s your OWN FAULT YOU MISS US, BOOGER-FACE!
😀
I adore you TTFN. I will bottle a quaff of Eau de Wheelie, especially for your use.

:O GASP! You SHUT UP, BIG POOPIE HEAD! YOU DIDN’T MAKE THIS LAST SUMMIT EITHER SO I WOULD STILL BE MISSING YOU ANYWAY, IF I WENT! Geeze! lol
Tks for that Kitty. I needed the larf today.
I beleive the lovely hostess at said “Wharf” should be put down for a cruet of Eau de Wheelie, when the new batch is produced. She was cute as a bug and an absolute hoot.
Also – Brendon, Hugo and Missing Man Formation (Vastie) all have limited edition artwork coming to them from L’Atelier du Ivan. I didn’t bring them Saturday becasue I figured the young’uns would be out on the tiles after we parted company.
Comrade- My Dog’s Body is in a special place of honour in my music area.
It still chokes me up that you produced it for me with such caring and respect.
I salute you, Comrade!

I greatly look forward to it, Uncle Ivan. RAWK! 🙂 On another note, it was great to see a new face as well as all the old faces on Saturday. We definitely need to do it again sooner rather than later.
must have chachos…
I still regret not ordering some.
zZz I could go for an order of chachos too. They looked pretty damn good.
Wheelie I was told how great you smell…can’t wait to get a wiff.
