Don’t watch television and sit on Facebook, you’ll forget about the world out there. Put away your iPhone, throw away your blackberry; go find the person you’re trying to get in touch with. If they’re across the country, write them a letter, the written word is a beautiful thing. Unfortunately we have been split in to two different people, bi polar if you will, by no means bi winning. There is our physical self, and there is our digital self. The physical self-being the body encasing our soul and mind, and the virtual self being the information we present to the world via social networking. We spend so much time grooming and presenting out virtual self, picking the perfect profile picture, developing the best status update, tweeting every time we use the toilet. And in turn for grooming our virtual self and training ourselves to type 50 words a minute, we grow fat, get stinky, and become socially awkward. We need glasses, we get pale and a few cases of tennis elbow or carpel tunnel, all the while ignoring the beauty of the world. Be social, find yourself. —WR

The irony of OP writing this on the bitch board made me giggle!
Happy Friday everyone!! Looks to be a beautiful weekend ahead!!
I was pale and awkward long before Facebook. So there.
My weekends are virtually virtual life free. I”m only on here so much because I hate my job and I’ve got to kill 37.5hrs/wk somehow. Though I only have 4.5 work days left here! Then I’m off to a grand new adventure 😀
Sad, because my virtual self will be lurking so much less on LTWWB, iz gonna miss u guyz.
^oh god yes^
this person needs to speak for themselves.
Nice one Baz. >: )
OP – go get swarmed.
You know what, ralmn? I’ve started adopting your virtual-free weekends. I’m on this frigging thing all week and I find that now I’ve found some other interests and activities and am not chained to ifatz (LOL my macbook’s name — don’t ask — NGF named it) studying all the time so I can do WHATEVER I WANT on the weekends 🙂
I hate the idea of an employer-provided BB too, usually because the expectation that comes with it that you’re accessible whenever (not all employers are like this, but I know far too many who expect this accessibility). I hardly ever take my cellphone with me and 50% of the time I don’t even bother answering my phone at home — I’d hate hate HATE to be accessible all the time.
But, ’tis a requirement of my field of work 🙁
“picking the perfect profile picture”
I guess we’re all guilty of this one ~;)
haha…and worf really is my mate^^
The OP’s been smoking plastics again.
I like virtual free weekends <3. Well, that just means LTWWB and FB free weekends. I usually can't be bothered to come on here on the weekend ;D! I sometimes use FB on my phone on the weekends though if I'm waiting in a line-up or just waiting for someone so it looks like I have friends :)!
a part of me hates to agree with the OP, and a part of me would love to slap a giant “ironic much?” stamp on OP’s forehead!
i think this ‘son of a bitch’ is tweet-worthy! 😉
it IS a beauty of a day! *spring<3*
Melectric…same here! I never get on a computer to bitch or FB unless I’m killing time on my BB during the weekends.
the part of me that hates to agree with OP, is the part that is laughing because those who disagree are defending/justifying when they use the net, how often and why. i dunno, it kinda makes me wonder?
I do agree a bit with the OP, but Ohhhhhhh, the irony! 🙂
I heard on the CBC this morning that there was some sort of study done with teenagers who were required to “unplug” and experienced similar withdrawal symptoms to kicking drugs. That’s pretty sad…
And congrats/good luck ralmn!
what’s that RC???
Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday
Today i-is Friday, Friday (Partyin’)
We-we-we so excited
We so excited
We gonna have a ball today
Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes after … wards
I don’t want this weekend to end
MY HAND IS A DOLPHIN!

if you dare
Aw, RC got to the irony comment before I did. 🙁
To be honest, I was socially awkward BEFORE the advent of social networking online. Haha. If it wasn’t for people I met online, actually, I daresay that my life would be a lot less happy. :-/ (And yes, I’ve met these people in person over time… haha.)
Fuck you, OP. Wanker.
Just to clarify, “bi-polar”, while superficially could be the right word to express the OP’s point, bi-polar disorder specifically is NOT a split personality or multiple personality disorder. I’m sure it wasn’t intended to mean “bi-polar disorder” but that’s what some people will take away from it regardless. I only point this out because it’s a disorder that’s widely misunderstood, and I can see the way “bi-polar” is used in this bitch confusing people.
I understand the point being made, but I find the “physical self/digital self” theory being attributed to more people than it actually applies to, or at least more severely attributed to people than is realistic (Most people do not tweet every time they go to the toilet). In general, people who are so engrossed in social networking that they neglect to take care of and wash themselves are a minority, a minority that may have serious pre-existing health or emotional problems. The average person who uses social networking isn’t like this person. Most people use social networking, and most people aren’t neglecting their hygiene etc.
What does needing glasses and skin colour have to do with any of this? The majority of people who wear glasses wear them because of problems that have nothing to do with how often they watch television or use the computer, genetics, diseases, trauma. Don’t overestimate the evidence for vision damage due to eyestrain. There’s no conclusive evidence to support the claim that television or computer screens are significantly damaging peoples’ eyesight. At most optometrists have said that looking at a screen a lot might make you slightly more nearsighted over a long time, but this hasn’t been proven yet as far as I know. Most will advise cutting back on screen use just to be on the safe side until more conclusive evidence is acquired.
Also, skin colour is based on the geographic location of ancestors and the genes inherited from them, not on how much time someone spends indoors. People who are already light skinned can tan, but someone who is already darker skinned will not become paler from lack of sun exposure. Your skin doesn’t change all that much or even permanently in one lifetime because of exposure to sunlight or lack thereof. You can’t determine how much time someone spends indoors based on their skin colour, especially since we have, sunscreen, hats, clothing, shade, and tanning booths…
As for someones weight, while there’s a clear link between inactivity and weight-gain, keep in mind that it’s by no means the only factor. Diet, pre-existing health concerns, genetics, and upbringing all contribute.
Maybe I’m being picky. Generalizations can be helpful in some cases, but not when they imply things that just simply aren’t true.
Plus this bitch ignores the positive outcomes and benefits gained by social networking and other media, but I can forgive that, because it’s not a bitch if it doesn’t have a clearly defined opinion. Just keep in mind that it’s not all bad and that OP is talking about an extreme that is not very common.
I’ll take this bitch as an exaggeration to make a broader point.
Just wondering, I have a hard time switching off anything electronic in the weekend because thats what i like to do. I worked in a job where I had no access to technology for the whole week that it was refreshing to play with the digital world. Now its reverted I have no idea what to do with my free time.
I like to read but my eyes get tired easily, I find the tv boring and movies are expensive to buy/rent/download legally. I like to geocache but theres only certain days i like to go out and do it, and I find playing my guitars hard to do without a computer. Anyone got any fun ideas to try?
no, tell me it isn’t true, that someone, actually wants to have a face to face? fuck people, the world is surely coming to an end now. i thought hell was chilly here this morning, and now i know why.
o.p., don’t worry, in less than 6 months, there will be so much solar shit going on, all that crap will be pretty fucking useless. we are approaching a high point again, in a 7 year cycle, and last time this occured, things got kinda fucky. bring er on boys and goils.
yaw mon, dooms day is just around the corner! im scurrred -_- i wonder what will happen…
oh my aren’t we the lifey mclifemeisters … off to climb kilamanjaro are we..right than ..off you fucking go..:)
nope still too lazy to climb, good shout though. (by the way i was not the op)
