Why is it people feel the need to display our flag upside down? Is it that they think we do not have a good country? Maybe they have never heard of Haiti. In the United States it is viewed as a sign of distress, but that’s only in America. Our wonderful government even provides this information online for free but some are too ignorant to see their sign of disrespect. Please keep our Canadian identity strong and not take for granted what we have. —Its not Flags of our Fathers.
This article appears in Jun 6-12, 2013.

I think the disrespect is deliberate, a sophomoric attempt to indicate their “principled opposition” to whatever government policy they disagree with.
Of course, such moral outrage never involves
refusing a student loan, or social assistance from that very same government whose actions they find so objectionable.
Of course, you could be aiming a stab at our bitchbud Hoist that Monstercock5000, in which case you can Foxtrot Oscar, cuz he’s a mensch.
The electroshock has worn off, and the trolls are back.
Hi blip! Your terrible writing is painfully obvious.
You’re being a fool by trying to play the field from all angles.
Or you could mind your own business.
I think it’s lesbians who hang it upside-down. They do that with the Pride flag too (They seem to like the purple on top. Remember, ALWAYS red on top; or, if it’s hung portrait-oriented, red to the left – just like reading!)
A small correction; If the Union Flag (Jack) is hung upside down, yes it is possible, check it and see, then it too is a distress signal. Boy Scouts finally paid off.
And if the Union Jack is is spread flat upon the pavement, trod upon and eventually set on fire, it means it’s Benefit Cheque Day at the Improv, with your host…ANDY CHOUDHAREEEEEEEE!

A flag is usually a symbol and people will use that symbol however they may to express their sentiment. It’s their choice, don’t let it bother you so much. Life’s too short.
While Harper is still in power, I think I’m ok with it.
Nary a need to feel over-patriotic these days.
Fool, you are the fool. It is painfully obvious I wrote this bitch as Hoistyhammer and I had gotten into this argument not even two days ago.
I merely wrote this Bitch to finally get her answer on the subject. After I pointed that her references were not relevant to Canadians she grew silent. Then I noticed her avatar has been changed.
I am glad she realized she was in the wrong.
It’s meant to be offensive, not patriotic. Correct or incorrect, I believe it’s having the desired effect!!!!
Suck it, Sonic blip!!!!!
Our Canadian identity also includes the right to protest without fear of harmful reprisal. First I’ve heard of this, but I’d like to know why they’re cranky enough to flip the flag before I come down on them.
One can love their country while hating their government. I haven’t changed my avatar and I won’t be changing it any time soon. In fact, I did research further into the act of hanging your flag upside down. It is not just an ‘American thing’, as Enoch points out. However, the act of hanging your flag upside down isn’t recognized so much as a distress signal these days, moreso it is a sign of protest. I’m using it a small, tiny display of protest at our current government (not just the conservatives). If it gets you riled up, so much the better. 🙂
Everyone is entitled to express themselves whether it be in a positive or in a negative way and that is very subjective. What’s positive to some may be negative to others. I was curious about the flags, too, but not offended. If it’s a display of protest against our government (present or past) why not have a photo of the politician upside down? Have their eyes and some of their teeth blackened out. Better yet, Photoshop an asshole on their forehead. THEN put them upside down… HA! Think I’ll take a nap now.
LOL Those are all hilarious and awesome idea’s Mr. McNasty. I’d just have trouble thinking of one politician to pick. Has anyone seen Mike Savage’s youtube video? I thought it was kind of funny. He’s an OK guy so far in my opinion.
Hey ShitRag, your logic is flawed. Pride in the flag is not limited to the current government or conservatives. Your protest is misdirected. I don’t respect you. I think you are low down good for nothing maggot.
You want to know how I feel about you? go take a shit in your hand, then slap your face with it.
i’m rarely offended by bitch’s avatars, sometime at suck’s, but i only have myself to blame, don’t click “enlarge”
Great Value: Noted.
The only flag I’ll salute is the one that flies over Huck Bahr’s Porketorium, on Route 85 outside of Valdosta, Georgia. Their signature dish is a 5 lb tray of assorted cured and BBQ meats called “Ham, Bacon, Sausage and Pork a la Huck Bahr.
No thanks, GV. I couldn’t smoke enough weed to make that sound like something I would ever do. I take it as a compliment that you disagree with me, ya redneck, conservative, assclown!!!
Excellent points GV. Both of my sons serve our beatiful country. One was injured in Afghanistan, nothing serious but it did give us quite the scare. Stoners like SHITman and hoistyhammer will never understand what makes our country great. People like them, and the toad, take it all for granted and claim everything that could be wrong, is wrong. They cannot present a credible idea as to how to improve our country, but only complain and disrespect everything we have and fought for in prior wars.
When confronted, like on this thread, they just resort to insults and bullying. No surprise about their responses.
i like this one, tho it is a banner http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/310…
Spend more time educating yourself, Great Value, and less time spewing insults to someone you don’t know from the safety of your desktop. BTW, I never asked for your respect.

“A handful of corporate oligarchs around the globe have everything—wealth, power and privilege—and the rest of us struggle as part of a vast underclass, increasingly impoverished and ruthlessly repressed. There is one set of laws and regulations for us; there is another set of laws and regulations for a power elite that functions as a global mafia.
We stand helpless before the corporate onslaught. There is no way to vote against corporate power.”

Keith Jones, 2006:
“Harper announced Wednesday that he will no longer give press conferences for the parliamentary press gallery, after journalists balked at the attempts by the prime minister’s office to dictate who can and cannot ask him questions.
On Tuesday many reporters walked out of a Harper press conference to protest his handlers’ demands that prior to such conferences they be given lists of who wants to question the prime minister so that they and Harper can choose journalists to be called upon for questions.”

“Tom Hoppe earned the Medal of Bravery and the affectionate nickname “Dances With Bullets” for his heroic August 1994 sprint into sniper fire to rescue three children pinned down in the civil war fury of Visoko, Bosnia.
That medal along with others the former army sergeant earned, including the Meritorious Service Cross will sit on a shelf this Remembrance Day in a quiet but symbolic protest against the Harper government.
The fact one of Canada’s most decorated soldiers, and a respected voice in the peacekeeping community, chose to remove his medals —a decision some troops consider sacrilege — speaks volumes about the level of frustration and disillusionment among ex-soldiers and their families.
“It’s very, very hard choice for me to do this … but I don’t know what else to do,” Hoppe said Thursday in an interview with The Canadian Press.”

There, I’ve managed to provide you with a little bit of information and insight into why I feel the way that I do. And I was able to do it without resorting to name-calling. Na-na-na.
The Canadian flag is a piece of cloth. Without the courage, determination, knowledge and alertness required to defend the ideals that it is supposed to represent it means NOTHING.
Shows how little you know, blip. I can recite you my name, rank, and service number from 18 years ago.
Excellent quotes, Hoist. Anyone who can colour inside the lines can tell he’s a devil in a sweater-vest.
SHITman- Its really no surprise you were not enough of a man to make it in the military. You must regret the decision as it seems to rent alot of mind space and has contributed to you having a skewed and perverted view on our beautiful country.
Or were you kicked out for drugs?
Lol, I wish I was kicked out for “drugs”, cause I bet there would have been a pretty funny story attached. Unfortunately, it is just a boring story of how I didn’t like it. I didn’t like how you take orders from someone whom you don’t respect, and are expected to carry on a “right of passage” attitude when it comes to training and discipline. The military is for drones, willing to salute people you don’t respect, willing to put your life in incompetent hands, never questioning “orders”, and being forced to (possibly) give your life to protect a bunch of uber-rich peoples bank accounts. Not my style, but hey, if that’s what you’re into, all the power to ya!!
The Captain hasn’t yet discovered how to simultaneously support our Troops and the Peacekeeping that they do, and still oppose military expansion and the occupation of foreign countries.
Also, the Links were much appreciated, Hoist. Thanks for the morning coffee reading
No Prime Minister since 1945 has been able to reconcile that dilemna Captain. Some have been much more open in their contempt for our military than others. As far as our cherished “Traditional Canadian Peacekeeping” is concerned, you are aware that at the highwater mark of the late 70’s we never had more than 1500 blue berets deployed at any one time, are you not. In the same period, despite trudeaus swingeing cuts to our NATO commitment, we had 10 time that number in Europe, training for and prepared for the Soviet attack, which thankfully never came.
As for that Traditional Canadian Peacekeeping, (which an only an infinitessimally minute portion of the population have ever been involved in), it was mortally gutshot in the Balkan in the 90s and bled out in Rwanda. It’s gone and it’s never coming back. Future humanitarian interventions are probably going to be of a more robust nature, and will probably involve putting our soldiers in situations where they will face asymetrical combat from the front and accusations of “occupation” from the very safe rear. As far as military expansion is concerned, keep in mind that that also involves, from a fiscal point of view, decent salaries and living conditions, as well as sufficient manpower to avoid op-tempo burnout, money for training, as well, ; not just nasty things that go bang. It also involves having a government with the guts to decide what our military priorities should be, what we cannot afford to do, and making available the expenditures to do it properly, without putting our men and women untenable situations, without the proper kit.
Don’t hold your breath.
“It also involves having a government with the guts to decide what our military priorities should be, what we cannot afford to do, and making available the expenditures to do it properly” – As The Captain so often reiterates, “That’s why you’re the Colonel”, Sir. I’ve no qualms about paying my dues so that military members can enjoy a comfortable quality of life. The Captain, if elected, would see the military re-appropriated to better take advantage of its incredible productive powers.
UNfortunately it’s all too true, what you say. We’re not the peace keeping nation that we should be, but instead lend hands to those who would see the rest of the world enslaved in order to accomplish, not peace, but obedience.
“but instead lend hands to those who would see the rest of the world enslaved in order to accomplish, not peace, but obedience”
What, we became an Islamic republic and I wasn’t informed?
Gotta stop watching Sun News, I guess. >; )
Seriously though, geography and demographics have pretty much eliminated the option of neutrality, for us. We don’t even have the option of “Armed Neutrality” in the Swedish and Swiss manner. Historically our refusal to get sucked into Vietnam, and Iraq has strained, but not irreparable damaged our relations with our largest trading partner, closest neighbor, and protector. Maintaining a credible contribution to our military alliances grants us a seat at the table, and is far more conducive to our sovereignty, than a unilateral declaration of non-involvement ever would be.
You know, at the time I supported our decision to stand with the Americans after 9-11 and go into afghanistan to burn out the nests of islamic vermin. I even convinced myself that replacing a brutal and corrupt regime with one that was slightly less brutal and infinitely more corrupt might actually benefit the average afghan.
Now, I reluctantly admit to sharing the sentiment of the most rabid islamofascist, that there is no place for the West in the islamic world. Of course, I also beleive the corollary – that there is absolutely no place for islam in the West.
So as long as the Americans keep enough nukes to turn mecca, medina, tehran, etc. into a smoking field of obsidian, if necessary, and as long as they maintain sufficient expeditionary forces to interveen in the inevitable culture wars in Eurabia, or at very least to evacuate those worth saving, I’m content to live under the American umbrella. Sure, it could be better. But it could a infinitely worse, as well.
Yes, we’ve been under the USA’s umbrella-ella-ella since long before either of us were born. Most of my rants are directed towards the US (although I don’t always clarify that fact) because of our close proximity and relationships. This relationship has many, many pros and cons.
“Maintaining a credible contribution to our military alliances grants us a seat at the table, and is far more conducive to our sovereignty, than a unilateral declaration of non-involvement ever would be.” – True. But it’s always us pandering to them tho, isn’t it? It’s an American ideal to have a strong military that can defend against any threat, and we accommodate that by replicating their physical growth and international involvement. This breeds animosity I believe. Having a military presence in over 150 countries is not conducive to neighborly behavior.
I have trouble agreeing with your point about Islam and the West having no place amongst each other though. Maybe just the extremists and radicals from either side could avoid crossing paths, because I think diversity and blending of cultures has more benefits to offer than problems. Just like people talking in a theater ruin the experience for everyone in the room, extremists in a society ruin the reputation and credibility of their society.
It could always be worse.
If the extremists and radicals went out of their way to avoid crossing paths, they wouldn’t be extremists or radicals. Diversity and blending of cultures is a fine concept; pandering and submitting to,(as the british, dutch, scandinavians, french, etc, are learning to their immense cost, both social and fiscal) are not so beneficial. I’ve been told that islam means “peace”. I’ve also been told that it means “submission”. I have no common ground with any individual who cannot recognize the inherent contradiction in those two statements, nor am I interested in finding any. I view it with the same regard I have for any other religion. When it attempts to become a social force, I view it with distrust. When it becomes a political force, it is now a threat to be eliminated. Not accomodated.
“When it attempts to become a social force, I view it with distrust. When it becomes a political force, it is now a threat to be eliminated. Not accommodated.” -Agreed. Religion should be a personal choice, not dictated by government or the very people who organize that religion. I find it very disheartening that people are born with a Nationality as well as a Religion, can choose neither (safely), and must take responsibility for everything that goes along with either of those. The Captain is an advocate for the complete separation of church and state. Of course, that’s hard when the state was originally set up to be augmented by the predominate religion of said state.
Agreed. Some states have done better than others in evolving beyond the religious underpinnings of their creation. And every now and then, some populist troglodyte comes along to try and turn the clock back, at the ballot box or on the pavement.
And occasionally a bunch of us militant athiests decides to run amuck and burn, rape and pillage because some bloody Danish cartoonist draws a picture of NOBODY with a bomb in his hat!
They’d all be better off if they just ate bacon FFS
Only a fool would beleive what you typed SHITman. You cannot troll me. We of the church are above your childish antics.
“I didn’t like how you take orders from someone whom you don’t respect”
I highly doubt you respect anyone in or out of a uniform. (Only your drug dealer.
“never questioning “orders”,”
This sounds like every job out there. You wouldn’t know this as you havn’t left your mothers basement. I feel sorry for the porr woman.
“give your life to protect a bunch of uber-rich peoples bank accounts”
They protect our country, not just the rich people who have worked hard for their place in our society.
I find it so funny that if anyone else except a summit clique member had said that, the regulars would crucify them. You are a bully and a thgug.
You’re quite welcome el Capitan, glad you enjoyed the read. I’m enjoying the back and forth between you and Ivan. Both are making good points and have said things that I agree/disagree with. I’m not going to weigh in any further but it’s always nice to see two people having an intelligent and civil discussion.
You’re not being very christian blip.
Thanks Hoist. The Captain and I are summitbuds (monolithic clique of thgugs that we are) and if I do not always agree with him on small points, of one thing I am certain. He is a good guy and probably a better man than me. To such people the future rightly belongs.
How dare you TJ()@, my nusband has a volatile temper and I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of it.
Are you threatening me? That’s also not very christian. You should that bible of yours a good read, seems like you have a lot if free time.
OOOooooo….I bet Tommy’s really scared of a 65-75 year old man. LOL, I got your back TJ, if you need the help.
PS; not a member of any clique, never been to a summit, only person that I can say for sure I have met in person from this site is my wife, Poop.
Oh my, a good respectful Catholic woman like myself would never threaten a lowly police hating cretin like you TJ.
I was merely expressing my worry over your final resting place….. hell. You will have to repent and accept HIS teachings to write the wrongs you have unjustly placed upon my god fearing shoulders.
“write the wrongs ” LOL!!!
Thanks for noticing you dumbshit. I also put in Catholic instead of Christian that time just to see how close attention you paying. Not much I guess…. too stoned perhaps?
“Your” just “to” easy “two” get all worked “up”.
Screaming Fields of Christian Love
hey SHITman- cant help but notice you’ve become a top commentor by chasing my skirt.
I’m a married woman who doesn’t like drug addicts. You could the Salvation Army retail store. Or maybe a summit, lmfao.
I heard there are some tasty burgers at those summits.
Bacon is always present.

“He is a good guy and probably a better man than me. To such people the future rightly belongs” – A heartwarming endorsement from the C.O.
Thank you, Sir!
And Hoist, feel free to weigh in on the debate in the future, you’ve always got interesting things to say.
Vote Captain!
You’re full of it lady.
Jesus doesn’t condone insulting or belittling people. Jesus doesn’t condone judging people. And he DEFINITELY doesn’t condone doing all that in HIS name. Self righteous judgemental holier-than-thou people like you give good Christians like my grandmother a bad name. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Burgers? And bacon? Ooooohhh!
Ivan – Finally, some frigging common sense.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-23…
LOL – Maybe they can bunk with Andy Chouderhead. He’s got full time police protection now.
