i saw a new campaign of offensive pro life ads on our public transit as of late, decided to lodge a complaint with metro transit, they stated because of a case that was won some years ago that they would allow potentially offensive materials on their bus ads because of free speach, but i think its just the emoney, if you have enough they will plaster your message for the world to see, but something like anti fracking ads and pro environmental ads may not be as accepted cause its not backed by the rich left conservatives, im all for free speach but i think there is a time and place, and our public transit should not be that place. — facepalm

I agree to a degree OP. I also think the way these people word things is a bit misleading. “Pro-life” people aren’t generally Pro-life so much as they are anti-abortion. Once the child is born and becomes an adult these folks couldn’t care less about what they do, so long as they work and pay taxes and consume things. A child who is born to a mother who is not ready to be a mother for any number of reasons might not have the same opportunities as a child who is born into a loving family who has prepared for them before hand. These disadvantages may lead this child to grow up and become a criminal or a welfare recipient or homeless, etc. Should any of those things happen, just wait and see how long it takes for these “Pro-life” hypocrites to start talking about how much better the world would be without them leeching off of their precious tax-dollars. Similarly, “pro-choice” people are not “pro-abortion”, they simply believe that the option should be available to terminate an unwanted pregnancy in a safe way. (Not a safeway, that is not the proper place to abort a pregnancy). The only thing that both sides can agree on is that it is better to prevent the pregnancy from happening in the first place via the use of contraceptives or (LOL) abstinence.
Another big reason I am a vehement pro “Ass to Mouth” advocate.

It’s doubly ironic because if one ever needed to see empirical evidence that those who SHOULD be availing themselves of safe, legal abortions, cleary ARE NOT!, then public transit is the place to look.

Considering that they squashed the Atheist messages being plastered all over their busses because it was too controversial, maybe the abortion debate should be left to the courts and not a bus campaign. I’m not sure that you should be able to cherry pick what controversial messages you will advertise so, perhaps the better policy would be to allow them all or ban them all. It would seem that religious factions hold more clout when addressing their “morality issues”.

I don’t understand why there are still so many unwanted pregnancies, when there are so many different types of contraception available out there. I know not all women can take the pill for example. Well there are still good ol’ condoms out there. Really there is no reason a woman should have an unwanted pregnancy in this day and age unless of course she was sexually assaulted. Men need to get over themselves when it comes to wearing rubbers. Take some responsibility men, and cover that thing up even if she is on some type of contraception. Ladies it is also your responsibility to make sure he does cover it up. If you can’t do that ladies, then you need to take that little pill or iud or whatever your method of contraception is and put it in between your knees and squeeze tight until the male gives up and goes to sleep or home.

This is what bugs me about pro lifers — they think that just because someone is pro choice they’re going to CHOOSE to have an abortion. Pro CHOICE means you have the CHOICE to have an abortion or to CHOOSE not to have an abortion. I’m a pro choicer, but I’m pretty firm in the fact that I wouldn’t choose to ever have an abortion (in normal circumstances). But I support the rights of other women to decide what they want to do with their bodies. Women aren’t incubators.
That being said, I’m also a firm believer in everyone’s right to an opinion and it really irks me when those who are pro choice act as if those who are pro life don’t have a right to their opinion, or don’t have a right to express their opinion. I might not agree with the pro life movement, but those in it, have every right to voice their opinion, just as I have my right to voice mine.

Thing is, pro lifers genuinely believe abortion is murder because they believe life starts at conception. As a pro choicer, I completely understand that point of view, but I don’t necessarily agree with it. If a embryo/fetus isn’t able to sustain itself outside its mother’s womb, I believe the mother has the right to abort said embryo/fetus if they so choose because I don’t believe women should be forced to be incubators against their will. If I was faced with the choice to abort or keep my unborn child alive inside me, I would definitely choose the latter, because I do believe I would be murdering my child. But, that’s my choice, as it’s the choice of another woman to be able to choose to abort their unborn child. Quite frankly, it’s none of my business.
So while I disagree with the pro-life argument, I do understand where they’re coming from. They honestly believe it’s murder, and when’s the last time any of us were ok with people murdering others? Just because us pro choicers don’t believe abortion is murder, these people in the pro life movement really DO believe it’s murder. So I can understand their point of view.

Advertisements keep transit fares down. There are tons of ads I don’t agree with on transit, but just because I don’t like something, doesn’t mean it should be banned. Same goes for you.

Another thing about a lot of pro-lifers (not all but I would reckon MOST) is that they DO consider abortion murder and use that as their main talking point against the right to choose abortion. But when it comes to dead Iraqi’s and Afghani’s for example all that compassion for life goes right out the window.
I am not going to get into a debate right now about casualties of war or the legality/morality of said wars…but which is it? All life is precious and should be protected at all costs and abortion is evil … or life can be valued or devalued on an individual basis depending a some predetermined set of criteria. You can’t have it both ways. I’m sure there are anti-war pro-lifers out there but I bet they are in the minority.

Pro-life advocates certainly have the right to forward their beliefs be it on a bus or wherever but in light of shunning the atheists, it’s makes me wonder if MT should stay away from politically sensitive issues lest they be accused of playing favourites.

Uhhhhhh, it’s not in my nature to respond to useless blowhards but, I’m taking an unusually long dump and could use the distraction.
Pro lifers are idiots because; they actually believe they are right. In a free society, choice is paramount and a persons ability to choose is what makes us free. They aren’t happy with people executing their free will, they would prefer to make everyone’s choices illegal, so everyone HAS to adopt their bullshit morality. Forcing women into alleyways where butchers will preform unsanitary abortions, in many cases, much further along in a pregnancy than a doctor would preform them. What they don’t understand is, cramming their “morality” down people’s throats doesn’t make them right, it makes them assholes, and dangerous assholes at that!
So I guess pro life protesters congregating outside abortion clinics yelling “slut, whore, murderer” at women who are in, undoubtedly, emotional turmoil over one of the most personal of choices are “just giving another viewpoint”. I know you are going to say “those are extremists and don’t speak for all pro lifers”. Although this is true, pro choicer’s don’t seem to have that militant faction dedicated to shaming young women into making an educated choice.

Maybe you could give me some examples of some pro choicers harassing and intimidating young women leaving planned parenthood centres after making the decision to keep the baby. Oh wait, that’s ok too, because it’s the woman’s choice. To my knowledge, most pro choice animosity is directed at pro life extremists, which is fundamentally different. I’m by no means condoning violence by either but, one absolutely cannot be substituted for the other.

Of course there will have to be legal provisions made (which there already are) as to how long during the pregnancy an abortion is allowed.
Abortion is already legal, end of argument. The supreme court has already decided this, and I highly doubt any of those justices called and checked with you before they made their decision, proving how little your opinion matters.
