Thanks CTV for covering the hockey game. But TSN1, WTF…..I turned on the TV to TSN1 and you’re showing curling….curling! It’s not even a real sport. Hockey’s on and you have that crap on TSN1. That’s seriously messed up. NBC….whoa….you’ve got some figure skater talking to the host….seriously….and talking about speed skating….sorry, that’s not hockey. Find some real male sports.

  1. that’s almost as bad as when they used to pre-empt wrestling for curling or football….
    what’s up with that???
What do we want? my fake sport….
when to we want it? NOW

  2. Andy, why are you posting bitches with slurs in them? If this bitch had contained the n-word, you know damn well you wouldn’t have posted it, but somehow it’s completely acceptable for people to use the equally derogatory term ‘fag’?

  3. just have to say that speed skating takes more skill and power than you could ever imagine. Saying it’s not a “male sport” is complete bull. It’s time to wake up because hockey isn’t the be all and end all here. Although I love the game and fully support our team, every sport at this level of competition takes an incredible amount of training, skill, power, mental preparation, and overall dedication. If that’s not “manly” then I don’t know what is….

  4. OP, I have no patience with anyone who thinks they can call someone a “fag.”

Whether or not curling or figure skating match your particular definition of what consitutes a “real” or “male” sport is beside the point.

If you want to watch hockey, fine. If you don’t want to watch figure skating fine. I, in fact, will be watching both, as each has something unique to offer in terms of extraordinary skill and excitement.

I object to your derogatory language, however. Please leave such ignorant slurs in the dark ages where they belong.

  5. In case people (ahem, the OP) haven’t noticed, all the Canadian networks have collaborated to cover as much of the Olympic sports as possible. Why wasn’t hockey on TSN? Because it was on motherfucking CTV asshole! And you are obviously either coming away from a recent experimentation with homosexuality that went wrong or just an arrogant prick. While I do not find figure skating all that entertaining, I will admit that these guys are extremely athletic (and lack an inner ear in some cases… getting groggy just thinking about some of those spins…..) Point is, just because you think spending countless hours a day exercising your thumbs on an XBOX controller counts as a “real sport” doesn’t mean that anything you say has any merit. Would LOVE to see you attempt to complete in any ONE of the Olympic sports… I bet any one of those “fag” figure skaters, as you call them, could kick your pathetic ass both on, and off, the ice.

Save your bitching for your mommy when she asks you to clean your room.

  6. neville – any hateful and derisive term that has a history of use in the prolonged and frequently violent oppression of a group of people is, in my mind, pretty fucking gnarly.

  7. perhaps the op would like to see more blood sports why not take your sorry ass to pamplona…those fuckers seem very manly

  8. Gnarly is a pretty awful word too, but for some reason we use it. Funny, Firefox recognizes it…

Curling is just as much a sport as golf. Just significantly more booze. Which really brings me to this point; they should play drunk. Much more entertaining, and just like the real curling anyone plays.

  9. If they are going to curl drunk, then they most definitely have to have Leslie Nielsen as their coach as well. And wear uniforms that don’t match.

  10. Balls, while I may be inclined to agree with you, the fact of the matter is that The Coast does get “all PC like” from time to time. They’ve seen fit to censor such words as ‘wigger’ and ‘cunt’, so I find it rather objectionable that ‘fag’ clears with no problems. Either censor, or don’t, but at least be consistent about it.

  11. “me0w – fag is a shitty word to post but its definitely not as gnarly as nigger, period.”

    Oh really?

  12. meOw: By being offended by the word “fag” you’re empowering this asshole. If people didn’t take offense to the “N” word, dyke, fag, etc it would take all the power away from the word.

  13. OP dude, any validness behind your bitch, the bitch that jonnoman pretty much shut down anyway, went out the door when you used “fag” and tried to convey your ubber not cool manliness.

  14. Balls, I’ll complain all I want, thanks. This IS a bitch board, after all 🙂

NW – This isn’t about me being offended, it’s about the fact that The Coast finds ‘cunt’ unacceptable but ‘fag’ perfectly alright. It makes me question their ethics. And frankly, I think it’s probably easier for you, as a straight white dude, to not be offended by words like this and to trivialize the impact they can have on others.

  15. yes mr. yorkke but without the trolls we couldn’t have the bizarro threads that spring to life

hey ml the op should check out greco roman wrestling that stuff is hot

  16. Thanks Jonnoman for pointing out the obvious to this oblivious OP. As for the comment, report it and get on with your life. You really think the comments will change OP’s view, no matter how skewed?…

  17. Logic-Hard to say, I doubt sweeping in under the rug will either. Does ‘shit’ offend you? Maybe that should be banned as well, where does it end?

  18. Wonder if the OB will go up to Tie Domi and call him a fag for participating in pairs figure skating (Battle of the Blades)?

  19. APOLOGIES! I have removed the offensive word. Yes, I have pulled down posts for using homophobic language in the past, but in my haste to post the bitches today, this hateful little word escaped my eyes. So, sorry. And rather than deleting all the objections with equally objectionable ephitets in them, I think this conversation is pretty good for the site, so I will leave them up to remind myself not to do this again.

And — if you do find something offensive, by all means report it. This isn’t your mother’s website (well, unless your mother is TTFN) but it does have some boundaries.

Thanks for being the extra set of eyes
    Andy

  20. Life Sucks, it’s the Olympics, ergo, it’s Olympic bitching season. If you can’t step up to the starting line to bitch with the rest of ’em, then you will never own this bitching podium. If ya don’t like it, go live on the Love site for a while.

  21. LIFE SUCKS, as LTWWL’s number one poster for about six months running, I provide plenty of action over there. Hot, sexy, steamy action. PNB and I are practically getting it on over there, cyber style. I’d invite you, but hey man, I’m no f… err… homosexual. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!

As hurtful as it can be when used the wrong way, fag can also be a fun word! Admit it, it’s kind of a fun sounding word. I hear gay guys using it all the time in a fun way. “Hey fag! Wanna go for a drink at Menz Bar?”

  22. BEING THE UNCLE OF A GAY, I DO KNOW HOW ROTTEN A PERSON CAN FEEL AFTER BEING CALLED A FAG. IT’S PEOPLE LIKE THAT,THAT SETS N.S. BACK IN THE FUCKING DARK AGES Q. I SLSO SEE THAT KIJIJI, HAS PULLED ALL ITS PERSONAL ADS FROM THEIR SITE.

  23. For real ‘fag’ persecution, you might want to see what’s going on in Uganda & Kenya !
Now there’s the ‘dark ages’ IMO !!

  24. “BEING THE UNCLE OF A GAY…..” –> haha… does a homosexual male like being call “a gay”? And Q…. I think gay people calling each other fags falls under the same rule exception as african american/canadian people calling each other “nigga”….. you try addressing them in such a way (actually, if you do I wanna be there…..haha) I’ve had some gay friends in the past and have become close (in a non-sexual way) enough with them that sometimes, jokingly, calling them “fag” was considered teasing. But I think he was an exception in the first place… definitely unique…. anyway…

LS- btw… it’s not people like that sets NS back in the “fucking dark ages” as you declare in your caps. People like that exist in every coordinate on this earth.

  25. You see, this is the problem with the whole ridiculous “PC” language scramble…

So jonnonman, “a gay” is bad…but what about “gays in the military”? That’s OK! And so, logically it’s the singularity that you oppose…the “a”? Nonsense.

And, on here, people cry if we use use “mentally retarded”, even though it’s the scientific term used in the US AND in Canada…although lately the latter has moved towards the unclear, a “special needs” person…wft?

Sounds like no arms and no legs in a whore house: “special needs”, indeed.

And what’s with this silly “African Canadian” crap? I don’t even even know any black folks form Halifax that have BEEN there…and what, exactly, would they have in common with some dude in sweat pants and tuxedo shoes carrying an AK47 anyway?

It’s almost as bad as the use of “aboriginal Canadians” by some folks now…wtf?
I lived on reservation land for 7 years in North Vancouver, and I don’t remember any boomarangs and wallymaroos going walkabout around the marina.*

And why is “people of colour” so dignified sounding and yet “coloured people” sounds so wrong? Explain me that.

    * although there WAS one old guy on a fishing boat near me that used to forget his pants a lot.

  26. Hehe. Mr Q…I like the way you cum onto me…

I wonder how far we can get it on, over there >>>>>>>>>

    Lick, Lick, slurp, slurp…burp:)

    Mmmm, Mmmm good!

  27. I’m still testing my ethnic vocabulary…. and I found it amusing (not offensive) because claiming to be the sensitive uncle of “a gay”, I figured he’d use a term a little more friendly to “the gays”. I didn’t come up with the term “gays in the military” so no comment there.

African canadian/american…. whatever. Just doing my part to keep things as politically correct as possible. Anyway, the terms are changing almost daily now so it’s hard to keep track. Aboriginal canadian sounds pretty ridiculous though- back in CB growing up we just referred to them as indians.

  28. To much PC crap anyways . I’ve been called a fag before for hugging a male friend i hadn’t seen in a long time . Didn’t bother me in the least . Even if i was gay – it wouldn’t bother me . Gay bashing on the other hand is something to be called wrong . Why let a simple word bother you ? When people use shitty words towards me – i usually toss them a toonie and tell them they won the prize for getting it right and carry on .

  29. Sigh….Yup, nothing like a dirty old white boy telling the minorities to ‘just get over it’. It’s so easy to sit back and say “oh, it’s just a word” when you’ve never once had to face real prejudice in your whole life. If your family or friends, people that you loved and cared about, had been beaten or murdered by people who use those “simple words”, then you’d probably find them a bit more objectionable. Words like those, and the attitudes and intentions behind them, are at the root of gaybashing and like any kind of abuse, it doesn’t just come in the physical form. So long as people are willing to just let it slide, keep their mouths shut, then it will continue to be socially acceptable to go around disrespecting gays. At least most racists these days have the good sense to keep their slurs to themselves. I’m not naive enough to think that not using slurs is going to stop homophobia, but it’d just be nice to see the bigots forced into the closet for once.

  30. Meow who says I haven’t had this happen amoungst friends and family? Maybe alittle bit of assumption on your part? I’ve seen it all and then some . Did you fail to notice i mentioned gay bashing as wrong? Some silly ass calling someone a fag is brush off stuff / So is the N word , they use it amoungst themselves so often it’s lost its bad meaning . So is the fag word or anything like that . And maybe if people have such a thing about it – maybe stand up for yourself and say something or better yet – lay someone out . I haven’t seen predudice? Fuck I grew up around the east shore i seen it all.

  31. IMO I think using the term “a gay” takes away from said person’s humanity. It’s almost like your labeling it as a defect or something, when that’s not the case at all.

I don’t agree with labeling one through their sexual orientation period. You get so many people that are like, “hey I just wanted to introduce you to my ‘gay’ friend bob”. What the fuck is that shit all about. You don’t introduce people as “your straight friend bob”.

Being gay doesn’t make a person who they are, it’s just one fucking aspect of that person’s life.

However, I do think “fag” should become the new “queer” and the negative connotation of it should be ripped away from those that use it in such a manner.

All the same, politically correct terms have gotten a little ridiculous lately. Words will always be found by people who are intolerant of others “different” from themselves. Listing a bunch of words that are ok to say as oppose to not ok isn’t going to change that. The intolerant ignorant assholes of the world aren’t going to change because a word changes. It’s just a matter of respect and being respectful of those around you.

  32. Weed, if you’re not gay, then how do you know that the f-a-g word wouldn’t bother you if you were? Seriously, have someone spit in your face and threaten kick your ass every day in junior high while shouting “you fuckin’ fag” and then see how cool you are with people using the slur oh so casually.
It’s just about being sensitive and considerate to other human beings and what the fuck is wrong with that?

  33. Well jennier , without sounding like an ” internet tough guy ” I wouldn’t be allowing anyone to threaten to kick my ass or spit in my face . I would knock them around . I don’t see where being “gay” takes away from your masculinity? Does gay mean ” sit there and take peoples shit”.

I’ve seen all that shit and plenty times I’ve stuck up for the geek or gay guy . I wasn’t trying to water down meows post . I understand it from a different perspective. Maybe I understand half of yours too . I never stood around calling people fags and queers . I minded my business and did my own thing . I quess what I am saying is , don’t anyone take shit from noone about nothing . People in my opinion should stand up for themselves . Being gay doesn’t mean you lost your ability to lay a nice beating on some asshole that thinks it’s cool to be an asshole !!

  34. I agree with you weedhog, unfortunately when you get a group of assholes that go around looking to start shit up with one guy/girl, you have to admit that it does put some odds against said person.

  35. weedhog, you just made my point for me. You just said that “no one should have to take shit from anyone” and should either stand up for themselves if they’re able, or someone else should stand up for them. That’s exactly why any decent person should object to the use of words like ‘fag’ or ‘nigger’. It’s about respect for your fellow human beings, and letting bigots and assholes know that their bullshit isn’t welcome in our society.

  36. Haha… another job well done in hi-jacking this thread all. Although to be honest, the thread was dead after about 4 posts. OP- you’re a dumbass.

  37. Agreed FA !! That changes things . I am not great at putting words out that can relay my thoughts . Likely causing people to think other then what I meant . I’m not sure now about that.

I think its just bullshit . I wouldn’t and haven’t though picking on people for no reason was cool . Thou I see it from gay people mouthing off for no apparent reason too . It works both ways !!!

I never though ratting people was cool either . But FA , this is a different world from when i grew up. They should go tell someone – report it to the police . It’s 2010 really now – noone gives a flying fuck if your gay. Big deal , your nothing special these days and most people aren’t going to care ( IE Police -teacher) if you tell them . Ask for help man . If you don’t have big friends to send or a pile of brothers and cousins to sic on them , tell man . Thats still standing up for yourself !!!!

I’ve been in other situations where a group of another town ( this was way back in the day ) chase me off back to my town . What I did was wait for just one to be by himself and I waited long . They aren’t so tough when they don’t have they’re “crew” with them . Violence as always is not the answer – but , to some its the end all to they’re be all . It’s all that will get it done and over with .
