Okay oil is $112.00 US/barrel which in Canadian is roughly $1.04. Tell me why the fock gas keeps going up if the focking US buck is in its death spiral? Also, we’ve got more oil than the Saudis. Why don’t we just keep that sh*t for ourselves and sell it to ourselves at a HUGE discount? Say fiddy cents a litre. —Hmmmmkay

  1. So… is a “US barrel” 100L? And is that *actual* cost, or is that after profit, etc? And is that oil instantly convertible into gasonline without any cost at all?

Oh, yeah, keep in mind that something like 35% of our gas prices are tax, so even if we “keep it for ourselves”, the gov’t isn’t going to discount squat.

And don’t forget the cost of gas to transport the gas…

  2. because canadians are either too fucking lazy to refine their own, or too fucking stupid not to stop buying u.s. price based shit. what the fuck are all these fucking refineries in canada for, to look nice. use the fucking things to refine oil, duh. cost too much you say, then get the fucking migrant workers in to do it.
they’ll work a lot fucking cheaper than our own lazy motherfucking people will. and that is just fucking pathetic.

  3. You can thank the wonderful world of commodity speculation.

Weith the real esate market in the the tank, investors have put their money into commodities.

Why do you think food prices are spiking?

It isn’t because food is more expensive to produce, rather there is more money money chasing it driving prices up.

When I was in India, in one year, staple products like rice and grain went up 150% in price.

They started importing cattle feed from Canada to feed their people.

  4. because the price of gas is priced on the commodity of gasoline, not crude oil. If our dollar was weaker the price would be even higher as the gasoline commodity is traded in US $. and the $112/barrel is more like $107, $108 not $104 as you suggest.

Actually LS even if we refine our own oil we cannot sell the product for less than what the going rate in the US market is (before taxes are added) due to NAFTA.

  5. Oh how i love a good oil conversation. Let me tell you all a story……..
About 2 years ago there was a spike in gas prices, something close to $1.20/ltr. I was at the pumps filling my car and a man was on the other side filling his Ford f250 crewcab 4×4. For the few minutes we filled our vehicles he was on a rant with a non-stop barrage of curse words towards to the government and oil companies for the cost of gas. I remained silent and only listened. I was mostly paying attention to the amount of fuel he was pumping into his vehicle, which by the way was only transporting 1 man. The entire truck was empty. Essentially he could have been in a sub-compact car.
He assumed that because I too was filling my vehicle that by default I would be on his side and would agree with his views. He was wrong.
His total cost for fuel was $130, mine was $40.
I told him he should consider himself lucky, for if it was up to me no one in this country would be paying less than $5.00 per liter for gas or diesel. The look on his face was priceless.
The moral of this story? Well first of all if you don’t like the cost of fuel don’t buy it. Second, it is you, yes you, the general public that over consumes and takes for granted our resources that in turn destroy our environment. So you fat fucks can drive your lazy asses to the nearest McDonalds to stuff your fat faces with shit and then return to the pumps to repeat the same mistakes over and over again, all the while complaining about the rising cost of fuel.
Are you aware that it is because of us that the prices are so high?
Are you aware that the amount of environmental damaged caused by oil extraction is because of us?
Do you realize that almost half the fuel consumed on this planet is used to transport the fuel to you, the average over-consumer?
Are you taking into consideration that it is you who dictates, through consumption, the rising costs of fuel and other goods?
In other words by simply using less products such as fuel the prices would lower.
I highly doubt you will take my words into consideration because as humans we are creatures of habit and if we are habituated through repeating the same mistakes then so be it. I feel sorry for none you.

Oh what a tangled web we weave.

  6. Well put “wherehaveallthethinpeoplegone”. We have developed a complete reliance on oil which we are all aware, has put us in bed with Middle-eastern despots, incurred environmental degradation and left our way of life at the whim of speculators.
I believe we will always need oil to some degree but we need to change the complete reliance aspect. A push towards greener technology will have it’s ups and downs but is necessary. In the end, I believe our ingenuity will result in greener, cleaner energy but we have to endure a painful transition.
The spiralling price of oil (and gasoline) is just the beginning.

  7. Gidget, you had me at “taxes”.

THAT is the biggest problem, paying what? 45 cents tax per liter? Forkin’ ridiculous, but again, this is Canada, so we don’t even get that money put back into roads.

  8. I agree….the canadian dollar is buying more oil than it was, so the price at the pumps should drop as well…bastards!!!
