As much as I applaud Occupy Nova Scotia I believe that they should leave the Grand Parade Square for Remembrance Day. Perhaps they could go to the small park across from Public Gardens. After all Spring Garden Road is where a lot of the money is made/spent and it is on major bus routes so their message still could be heard. Grand parade would be the wrong place for you on this serious day. —Rattale

The vetrans fought for our freedoms. Right? We have the right under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms to assemble peacefully (section 2c, to be exact).
I do not support the occupy movement, but I do support their right to express their opinions and the right to assemble peacefully.
Again, is this not what the vetrans fought for?
OP YOU’RE A SOCIALIST DOUCHE-NOZZLE!
This is all going to turn into ” I don’t care but not in my neighbourhood” situation. I can imagine those living around the Commons or the Public Gardens will have a lot to say about their view of the tents.
I would support their movement if they weren’t a bunch of hippies and slackers taking advantage of an opportunity to squat and get shit for free. Random dance parties, hula hoops, skateboards, toking up, non existent hygiene, c’mon, these people need to get the fuck out. we are oppressed but at least some of us should have the right to bitch, we hold down jobs.
How about bringing in the snowplows to push them out of Grand Parade? They’re nothing but a bunch of useless, lazy stoners.
Lazy, useless stoners >>>>> ‘mos.
Don’t be hating on hula hoops, bro
as much as the occupy movement annoys the shit out of me (not because there aren’t serious issues with how our economy is controlled but because the occupy protesters are, for the most part, spoiled and entitled dillholes) I don’t necessarily think they SHOULD move.
These wars were fought to give people the freedom to do exactly what these protesters are doing. The fact that they’ve taken over parade square is a testament to what these guys fought for.
SHOULD they move? Of course. it’s the polite thing to do. But it makes a powerful statement to freedom that they do not.
Bring in the Army, fix bayonets, problem solved.
Free electricity is not available in other parks and that is why they do not want to move. They are sucking back the watts in Grand Parade courtesy of HRM taxpayers and recently purchased 50 foot extension cords.
I think the Fire Marshal will be taking care of the issue.
Joeblow, I think they should invite the protestors to stay and peacefully participate……but they should cut their power immediately. 🙂
I think HRM should dig up more of the grassed area and plant lots of bulbs for next spring..
And I think the Public Health inspectors should check out the food areas.
Meh. It’s Friday.

I say we occupy cemeteries when the protesters’ loved ones are laid to rest, afterall that’s what the service personnel died for so we can protest.
donk calling donk…shameful shite
i hear by the time they are ready to start the vet day routine, that the water temp. will be really fucking cold. so may i suggest a couple of well aimed fire hoses, with water that was in the trucks, outside, overnight. would be a hell of a show to see.
They fought and died for our freedoms, it’s true. We take one day out of the year to honor their memories, and it’s always in the same place. I think out of respect for our fallen they should move, if only for a few days.
and please cue the backlash:

I completely agree with Lakersfan’s comments. These are nothing but a bunch hippies and bums taking advantage. The Occupy movement is about hard working people protesting the fact that their taxes are used to bail out banks, etc….I doubt many of the ppl protesting in Halifax even have jobs or pay taxes.
And seriously, Occupy HALIFAX? Nobody cares about Halifax.
If they stand in respect, and keep their shit to themselves, they can stay. If they try to politicize the event they need heads fuckin broken. That goes for any asshole who does anything other than listen, not just them. Of all the ceremonies where I think the outside world needs to shut the fuck up and pay homage to those who gave up their lives, this is it. There are an awful lot of people these days who are losing that connection with the fragile threads that got our country to this point. Our veterans did more than most ever will and 24 hours of cordiality and solidarity out of the entire year is not too much to ask. If not send them to some god-forsaken country where they don’t give a shit about anybody, say Somalia?
Our vets get fucked by politicians, superiors, and often sneered at by many of these same “protesters”. They fought and many did not come home so that our country could support things like the right to these protests. If there is one day out of the year that they get the respect they deserve, it is November 11.
Yes, I hope the Occupiers will respect the solemn occasion and the ceremonies of Remembrance Day. To vacate for one day is not that big a sacrifice and would be decent P.R. for them. This day is to honor those who sacrificed to help maintain our way of life, it’s not glorifying war. At least it isn’t to me.
The occupiers can return November 12th, no biggie.
If the goal truly is to accommodate the veterans without compromising visibility, why not move (at least temporarily) to Province House? The legislature re-opens tomorrow http://nslegislature.ca/ with plenty of politicians and paparazzi (and probably other protesters and causes rotating in and out frequently), all in the shadow of many a bank tower. Take a municipal break, go provincial!
lets move the remembrance day ceremonies indoors for a year. why do vets always get left out in the cold?
I have a feeling today’s weather (Sunday) is taking care of this issue.
good point.
today’s weather will definitely damage some of the tents they are using. It may even be a humbling experience for some of the more seasoned campers.
The thing is, though, they can’t go back on the 12th because “holiday” preparations will most likely be starting soon.
they will have the sottish poet looking down on them
