So this so-called sociological movement is about what… can someone please clearly state now what this shenanigans is about… yes, I’m still waiting, what, I can’t hear you?? Let me tell you about the true 99% out there, working our butts every day to make a life for ourselves in this lovely province. We get an education. Writing papers and taking exams is tough, but somehow we get through. Some of us even come from families who have never had the opportunity to get an education, but our families recognize that to make it in this day and age it works better to go to school. Nova Scotia is abundant with them, and I just bet that if you look hard enough you might even discover that there is funding out there to get you in the door. But now comes your part… WORK. Yes it sucks, and we all hate having to get up at 5am or 7am or God forbid work through a night to get to where we are going, but such is life!! The times that I have walked by that drug ridden camp at 7am on my way to work you were all still asleep!! Probably hungover to a snot. What?? How friggen nice to camp and sleep and wake up to free food!! And the day I went to really try to see if there was something I could take away from this so called movement and I saw jokesters wasting away their time having some kind of clown hacky sack juggling contest! What the hell are you protesting? That you have chosen to be a twenty-something loser nothing squeegee kid with no place to go? How about you take a weekend in Cape Breton and work with the fishers and talk to people who would give their left nut to work at their trade, and who are pretty much open to any work opportunities that can support their community. I can only speak for myself, but this whole mess is a bunch of hype squeegees just looking for an opportunity to raise shit. Some of us work, it sucks, but we do it. We do it when we are pregnant, when we have kids at home, as single parents, when we are by ourselves, when we can own a home or pay for an apartment, we live in the Square, the North End, Spryfield, the South End, Downtown and everywhere. Nothing comes in a flash, everything that matters and means anything usually means hard work. Sometimes we have to go to work hung over or tired or in bad mood, but we do it because we are able to, and the paycheck will be there because of us doing our job. These kids protesting do not represent the 99% of us lucky enough to have it as good as we do, and I’m simply embarrassed to think this shenanigans would ever stand in representation of me or what I do.
Get gone. —Harvest Moon

Fucking A, bubbah.
(yawn)
Oh FFS. This round is over. Done. Finito. We haven’t run up the white flag , renounced capitalism and reverted back to a wipe-your-ass-with-your-left-hand-and-die-of-cholera-at-age-31, anarcho-primitivist, subsistence level, collectivist economy. Don’t gloat. Give it a rest. The panhandlers will still panhandle, the anarchists will still use talk of class-war as a substitute for foreplay, the poli-sci majors will still bore their acquaintances to tears with paeans to Noam and Chavez, the unions will still feed your tax dollars into their fat-ass pension funds while decrying greed.
Nothing has changed for the better, but it hasn’t changed for the worse, either.
Hello Out There!
A BREAKTHROUGH!
My previous comment, “Hello Out There!” was a “test comment” as I haven’t been able to post anything since my last comment on November 8, 9:34AM because of a frozen “Post Your Comment” button. Don’t ask me why.
Anyway, your congratulations and best wishes will, of course, be gratefully accepted.
A pleasure as always.
Cheerio!
i won’t ask monsieur, it’s nice to see you and the dog
“frozen ‘Post Your Coment’ button” ?
Let that be a lesson to you , Annie. Pay your heating bill. Regularly. Don’t wait until Quebec Hydro sends you an overdue notice. *wags finger in censorious manner*
col. ivan, can you identfy the new pic have up as my avatar. seems this gentleman, is a very distant relative of mine. notice the face, and think of last time you saw moi. i was flabbergasted when i found out today. thanks to ancestry.com. if you don’t recognize him, he has a very famous fort in the u.s. named after him.
Lawdy, Lawdy, Suh. Braxton, I say, Braxton Bragg, I do declare. You’re not a descendant; you’re a freakin’ clone Suckster. Finally got the Time Tunnel working again, huh?
That is a wild resemblance.

Get the fuck off your high horse OP. Education is not the be all end all answer. The unemployment rate amongst the educated is about the same as the uneducated. Then add to that those who are underemployed, who couldn’t find work in their field. If everyone has a degree (as we’ve seen over the last 20-30 years) then that degree becomes worthless. I work with people who have degrees and they make the same as me or less. Whatever works or worked for you is great, it’s not gonna work for everyone.
So they were asleep at 7am, played a game in their effort to pass the time, and other things you Harumph at.
You wrote ALOT, and basically pigeonholed them into a tiny definition: squeegee kids.
Hint: the more words you write don’t make your generalizations true.
I mean, for gods sake.
Asleep at 7am and then playing hackey sack.
These fuckers have GONE TOO FARRRRRR(t).
It’s a short forced march to the Via station to board the Trans Siberian express, final destination Gulag Bedford, where the occupiers can camp en-masse on the Movember Chinless weenies lawn. Hacky and nut sacks are obligatory as is 24 hour bongo playing and incense, not to be confused with incest AKA PennState football and Vatican butt rugby with a liberal dash of Goler thrown in, all the free weed you can ingest and the NS Confederation Of Labour checks flying in on a regular basis.
I really must stop drinking Peroni beer this early, I get fucking hammered too quickly.
THE REACTIONARY CRAZIES
Well, Harvest Moon, I read your post over again – it was a hard slog – and Ivan (4:12PM) was right but, as usual for the wrong reasons. Contrary to your tiresome rant, it’s not all about those who don’t have the “get up and go” to work hard at their jobs or get an education. It’s about the structural dynamics of our society. I know you won’t understand this Harvest because you think only in terms of the concrete particulars and not in terms of principles. In a word, Harvest, you’re too stupid to grasp that we’re living in a classic plutocracy.
Harvest, is your face close to the screen? Are you able to understand what I’m about to say? Harvest, it’s about – are you sitting down? – it’s about PRINCIPLES! Harvest, I know you’re stupid but if I spell it out slowly, maybe you’ll understand. It’s about the stunning disproportionate imbalance of the wealth in this country – the very rich versus the middle and lower classes. I won’t rehearse the statistics – I’ve done that before – and in any case your stupidity is such that they will mean nothing to you. But Harvest, we are living in a “plutocracy” in which the wealthy, in addition to creating the conditions which serve their amassing even greater wealth, conspire to manipulate the political system to work in their favour. Do you understand that, Harvest? No, I suppose not.
I know your attention span is flagging Harvest, so I will not go on. Perhaps you should have a beer with Ivan who, as everyone knows, is politically just to the right of Genghis Khan. Bottoms up!
A pleasure as always.
Cheerio!
Amen.
I don’t think there’s anything left of the horse at this point…
ummm…not sure if you’re targeting that at me wheeliep but I’m not the OP. Though I agree with a lot of what he/she said.
I keep saying it ignorence is bliss.
Agreed OP.
I am a disabled professional. I worked my ass off to get where i am today and my job causes me a great deal of pain (sitting is hard work given my disability) and it was very difficult to walk past the shantytown every day with some amount of pain or another (i manage my pain but i am never going to be pain free again) and knowing that in the minds of these misguided fools, i represent the 1% that they can’t stand merely because i worked hard and got myself to a point where I don’t have to go to bed hungry anymore.
That pisses me off.
I see a disturbing trend in the people around me. They see the results of years of hard work and effort and they fail to realize the hard work and effort needed to get to the result. They complain because they are not given these results without the hard work and effort. “This person has all these things. I should too”
Many of us earned them. Many of us lived on ramen noodles during our university days, then lived on them AGAIN while we scrimped and saved to pay off student loans. Most of us didn’t just wake up with a crisp fold of dollar bills jammed up our asses. We did what we had to do to get to where we wanted to go.
In THIS country? If you work hard you will achieve SOMETHING. Maybe not exactly what you want. Welcome to reality. But something you can be proud of and enjoy.
ALERT ALERT: ‘Occupy Dal’ has commenced.
Rip the manufacturer’s labels off of your clothes and ditch your Barstux latte. Keep broadcasting as long as it is safe. A rescue force is being assembled.

LOL, Ivan!
Don’t worry — I’m only hearing things third hand. I’m nowhere near the line of fire!
So, IK, you think it’s perfectly ok that financial institutions brought the world to the brink of bankruptcy and then we handed them a check? You think it’s ok that a tiny minority of our populous has such political power? You think it’s ok that lobbyists for big corporations can buy our government and use them for their own interests, ass raping the rest of us in the process?
I’m talking stuff like certain food companies lobbying to make sure we don’t know just how poisonous or harmful their products are. I’m talking tobacco and liquor companies, oil companies, and of course banks. They use our elected officials to make money, which basically trumps our entire political process. We are losing control, no, we’ve lost it, long ago.
Are we just supposed to accept that the middle class is disappearing under our noses and the gap between rich and poor is getting wider by the nanosecond?
What about the future? I for one am concerned.
Those protestors could go get jobs, sure.. what would that accomplish in the grand scheme of things?
I worked hard for what I have too, and I look down on freeloaders and people who talk about what they want and won’t do what it takes to get it. I hear what you’re saying, but this protest isn’t about free handouts it’s about equality. It’s about the people having more control over how their money is spent and more of a voice.
All that being said, I haven’t really been around that area much so I can’t say if I approve of the protesters behavior or not. However, to dismiss this movement as a bunch of lazy bums who just want handouts is ignorant, in my opinion. Have they asked for any free handouts? As far as I’ve heard their goal is to make people more aware of these issues, and I can say that they’ve succeeded because so many people, as evidenced on this board, are talking about it.
My source on the inside at DAL tells me he sees no occupying… could it just be a case of mistaken picnic?
I can’t imagine how anyone seeing a bunch of hipster types gathering together…
mid day with no jobs among them…
smoking the herbal on campus…
talking about freedom and all that….
can mistake them for the occupy movement.
baffles the mind
“So, IK, you think it’s perfectly ok that financial institutions brought the world to the brink of bankruptcy and then we handed them a check? “
This happened in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA not CANADA. Our banks are not the same as their banks. Our banks have limits on mortgages, blocks so that a person who is financially unable to take the burden of the loan on, cannot get a mortgage. Which is then why a person would want an education. Not because without one you can’t make money. Of course you can. BUT with one gives you the opportunity to achieve more. Higher paid positions. Management. Those are the rules of the work force. Certain jobs require a minimum of at least a BA. Now, people seem to be confused. Getting an education does not GUARENTEE you get a job in your field and make money. Nope. Not the truth. Getting an education gives you the OPPORTUNITY. That is it. Hard words to hear? maybe. But the truth. If you are the TOP of your class, you have a better shot. But that doesn’t always guarentee it either. NOTHING is a guarentee. You work as hard as you can and hope for the best. DOes that suck? Yea. but it is a reality.
Glad the occupiers are not camping anymore. Sad they don’t understand why. It would be nice to see some passionate peaceful protesting for something people believe in, rather than a group of people, living in tents in a park that MY TAX pays for. Theirs doesn’t cause they are not working. They are infringing on my rights. Be there from sun up to sun down. Fair. Be heard. But understand how they are contradicting themselves.
THERE ARE TENTS, PEOPLE.
TENTS!
It wasn’t you, Harumph. Just a harumph!
they most certainly HAVE asked for free handouts. Live on the radio while skirting the reason why they are there. The stoner had no clue. They are a bunch of dirty squeegie kids with no desire to work at anything except drugs, hackie sacking and adopting poor dogs and cats….. Makes me want to puke AND makes the people that are ACTUALLY protesting in a civilized manner look bad.
IK is not part of the 1%, I highly doubt you make > $300,000 a year you jackass.
Apparently we’ve all been corrected by Thinking. All this happened in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and there have been no other problems related to this worldwide at all. Have you opened a Fucking newspaper you dipshit? Seems to me that USA being the largest economy in the world might have something to do with the economic conditions in the market today. Thank dog you’re right thinking, and praise Allah we are all protected in Canada by the invisible bubble we built around our economy since 2008, now we are untouchable. Oh wait!!! I forgot the US purchases 70% of what we export. Fuck!!! How will this affect our economy if theirs tanks? Thank dog for that bubble!!!!
The occupy movement is not about homeless losers camping out and partying, it’s about much more than that. It’s too bad they couldn’t have distanced themselves from that stigma, and yet again a bunch of small minded twits don’t bother to look any further than that. If you what to know something about, or really learn something about the movement why don’t you find out about it, not just pass judgement on a bunch of lazy, opportunist homeless douchebags who have attached themselves to this issue in the name of free food and a place to camp. It really pisses me off when people can’t see a bigger picture than what happens in their back yard. If we don’t take back “our” government from the hands of the wealthy we are going to be very sorry. But hey, fuck it right, why fight for a fare tax rate on your income when multibillion dollar corporations get the tax breaks and bailouts when they make mistakes? Why should I as a person who makes 50-60,000 a year pay 30% or better income tax when the wealthy, due to tax loopholes pay not even half of that? Why say anything, just roll over and play dead? Lots of change that will bring.
here here
Tommy, the problem is the camping out isn’t working. You want change, then the occupiers first have to get organized and using something the military calls SMESH. Here’s a very quick example:
S – Situation – the banks charge too much interest on credit cards and makes getting credit too easy (yes easy)
M – Mission – to lower the overall rates and to ensure people can afford the credit they get.
E – Execution – lobby banks and government showing the folly of easy credit (easy credit causes people to borrow too much without the ability to pay back in a timely fashion) which in turn causes backruptcy and higher interest rates.
S – Signals and Communications – Using the media in the form of ads, news & curretn affair shows, the dangers of this activity as it stands now and how and why it is important to change it.
H – Headquarters – A place where you can do your busines and where people can find and contact you.
Without organization, it will get nowhere. And you can use this method for most of your complaints.
well said timothy, ny is gonna be bad tomorrow
OMG PK!!! “ALERT ALERT: ‘Occupy Dal’ has commenced.” I walked by today and was like WT(big)F … wtf … they’re obscuring the dogfather’s background! and they camped on the most vile spot … any bit of rain and their shit is toast … how are they gonna do this in winter … ?
I bet Dal doesn’t give two shits … heh.
IK … you mad?http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LiXKhcyAGFU/Te5W…
he definitely mad.
I didn’t think I_K was a ‘he’ …
that don’t sound quite right.

I agree Bro Tim but shit doesn’t happen overnight. I feel like the fact that so many people and news outlets are even acknowledging and talking about this movement is a step in the right direction.
Critics want to say it doesn’t work, ok, maybe they haven’t accomplished much but you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
At least they are doing something, at least they are saying something, for years we have bent over and taken it silently.
I think a big part of being more economically sustainable as a society is educating people. This is making a lot of people think about things they would not have bothered to think about.
That property is actually city property, not dal property, donk!
I fucking love the dawgfather with his delicious phatboys and ‘faken bits.’ He’s awesome to chat with.
Tommy, you’re right, it will not happen overnight. Yes people are talking but the thing is, nobody is acting/doing anything. The movement is leaderless and disorganized and will achieve nothing in the long run otherthan pissing the 99% off as recent comments are indicating. Like in war, battlefields change and you have to adapt. The time is now for the movement to move the battlefield. It will not be won in a park and it will not be changed overnight.
