You know the so called respectable people in the 60’s said the same thing about the hippies that were trying to bring home the poor soldiers that were being killed. The hippies were displaying diversity and fighting for it long before anyone else gave a shit about it. They demonstrated for peace.
The occupiers in this city for some reason are getting shit all over because they are trying to fight for your rights against rich and poor societies which is going to be a reality in the coming years.
So maybe people should look beyond what they wear and how they live and look at the rights they are fighting for…for you and your children.
Honestly, I think the government has society so brain washed that main society is doing its dirty work now.
We are sheeple…we just follow everything the government wants us to do and think and people don’t even realize they are doing it. If anything everyone should have united with Occupy as they have been the only group in years I have seen take a stand against the rich getting richer.
Sorry Dear Robyn. The hippies of the 60s didn’t give a flying fuck about the soldiers who were being killed. They just didn’t want to be among them. If anything, their sympathies and in some cases, their loyalties were with other side. The protests ended when the draft did, not when the war did. As far as Occupy goes, Boris hit the nail right on the head. Feburaury just ain’t protesting weather. Ask any bus driver. Heh heh heh.
Of course the hippies of the 1960s are “The Man” of today, just as the Occupiers of today will be “The Man” of the 2040s.

Oh FFS, here we go again with the hating on the occupy movement. Don’t you douchebags have anything better to do than sniff the ass of a movement you don’t care about? Obviously the movement did it’s job and brought awareness to a social problem, it worked well enough that even the haters notice their absence. I’m sure they will be happy to know that they made such an impression on you OB, and thank you for validating their hard work.
Look, OB, I know your uncles Fred Phelps and Tom Cruise have taught you to keep treating any lapse in attention from your opponents as a retreat and to keep yapping at their heels every so often. However, don’t you think your behaviour’s proving just a little revealing of how weak _your_ position is? Sure, those poor sods camped under tarps this past summer and autumn were largely the usual suspects we see every time someone’s got an axe to grind, but they did what they set out to do. It’s not the working class’s failure to maintain the economy that’s caused it to collapse: it’s the bastards at the top that created all this money out of thin air and don’t know how to redistribute it back downwards without having to give some of it up. Eventually, all those zeroes on paper are gonna disappear and, for the sakes of about 90% of us, I hope there’s enough arable land and water for us to make it without those zeroes.
The ONS Facebook page has bascially devolved into a newsfeed to post links to. The meetings themselves are still taking place with only a handful of people, and the agenda seems to be a lot of dicussion about “What ONS means to me”, and throwing around the term “solidarity”, but there doesn’t seem to be much of anything else going on activity-wise in public. There’s a vlog on YouTube called “The Wiseman Times” that seems to document all this inactivity. I wonder if they could contribute more if they shirked the ONS banner and as a group targeted specific local causes to come to the aid of.

Well put Dear Robyn. There are some parallels between the Occupy movement and the anti-war movement of the sixties. In the sixties, the focus was to undermine what was considered to be an evil war-mongering American government by protesting and getting the word out. As well,”dropping out”, abandoning conventional social responsibilities (back then) such as getting a job, starting a family or paying taxes. Youth being what it is, the movement had mixed results.
Occupy, of course, is a protest about corporate greed and accumulated wealth through unbridled capitalism creating a massive disparity between the rich and everybody else. This too will pass but it was very refreshing to see young people stand, sit or whatever against something that is obviously not right.
