Coyotex,,, just wondering,,, have you ever considered a career in PR or Tourism..?? You haven’t..?? Good…Then DON’T…!!!
We have a lot of whiney cry-babies. More than most places it seems. That’s gotta count for something right?
How can you not access nature? Freak.
well.. as a non-nova scotian, i can say that NS has plenty to offer. cheap sea food. great beer (my favorite in all of Canada!). SALT WATER that you dont have to take a plane to get to. abundance of swimmeable lakes (including within city limits!), and swimmeable ocean beaches. HISTORY. that, and some kick-ass, music.that, and a different palette of drugs than anywhere else in canada.
“and a different palette of drugs than anywhere else in canada”…Now with 50% more sea-“weed”.
Okay, you obviously haven’t lived anywhere else in your life time. The grass is always greener as they say (if there is any grass on the other side at all…except perhaps maybe the kind you smoke)Coming from a part of the U.K that is far from being part of a Jane Austin novel, i can critically acclaim that you are, indeed, being a moron.Nova Scotia has many things you in fact take for granted simply because you have no means of comparison. That fact you state you get nature “everywhere else” just shows how spoilt you are having it on your doorstep. Here are a few to say the least of what N.S has to offer:* Virtually NO traffic (try living in Toronto for a year where you toss the coin on commuting through 2 hours of traffic everyday (i love that band btw) OR paying $1200 a month to rent a shoebox in an overcrowded city)*Fresh clean air that has scarsely any pollution (my partner has uses his inhaler once a week here if that, he used it 3 times A DAY in Ontario)*Trees that line every street…which sounds so stupid but coming from a concrete hell hole, i can vouch that that is a really good thing. I have lived in many a place in the world, and i can say, this is one of the nicest.*It has the benefits of being by the gorgeous ocean, hundreds of little lakes, parks and thousands of trees. * Its a relatively small city but with great pubs and places to eat. Museums. Galleries. Sure big cities have more to offer, but at what cost? Ive lived in London,UK for a while and you soon get bored of the amount of things you can’t afford to do and the ignorance of the big city life. Why not go live in some concrete shit hole for a year and see how you feel when you come home again? Thank your lucky stars you don’t live in Iraq.Glad-to-be-here-and-not-in Salford
Alot, Period. Food, beaches, nature, city life, cheap rents on the most part. Apparently OP is blind, and especially dumb.
I agree Nat. I’m from the great-hell-in-the-centre (aka Ontario…but not Toronto…), and I’ve lived out west as well. I CHOSE to come here int he first place, and come back after I lived in the prairies for a reason. People here are friendly, it’s laid back, there are lots of cheap or free things to do, it doesn’t cost 2/3rds of your salary on housing, there is more green space encorporated into every aspect of this city than many others I’ve seen, and the air is so much cleaner! I used to think I had allergies, as I was popping claritin like a mad thing all summer long back home…I haven’t had to take any at all this summer, and I’m snot and congestion free. There is NO smog here, at all! it’s wild! plus you guys have fun and generally appealing weather- ns definition of muggy has nothing on central ontario!so yeah, there is TONS to do. I think the OP is probably from here, and just bored and needing a change. this is valid, but realize it’s nothign about the city, and alla bout your own need for change.
OP, why don’t you go join the clusterfuck rat-race hellhole that is Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver? I did it for the longest time until I decided to quit my big city job and start a new life here in Halifax. I am now living the dream. See how long it takes you to drown in pollution, gridlock, and PowerPoint fuckheads who would step over their own mothers for their morning Starbucks before you realize your daily commute is hopeless and that your only chance at affordable living is somewhere under a bridge. Eat a dong, OP. Then another. And another one after that. You suck.
Hey Posters… it’s friendly people like you who leave this town lacking any virtue.
oh Kay, I’m so sorry, did we offend your delicate sensibilities on this internet bitch board? I’m so sorry. When I replied to this thread I should have gushed and agreed iwth the OP before I commented on how wrong they were………..whatever was I thinking? It’s not us who ruin the fun Kay, I do believe it may be the virtue-police: and by that I mean you. as I stated before, I think the OP is just bored- bored and posting on here, and bored with life in general. they’re probably from here, and just need a change to appreciate things. this is normal, but has more to do with the OP than the city- everyone, at a certain point, hates where they’re from eventually, regardless of the city. i have to wonder though who the halifax-haters are trying to convince, always posting here about how much this city sucks, as if that’s the big answer. oh there’s a problem here, or an annoyance there? yeah that’s right, this city sucks sweaty donkey balls….and that’s it. not discussion, no real opinion beyond halifax is worthless move away now. not very productive, now is it? perhaps they should just leave if they hate it that much- and I mean both the city and the board.
The OP asked the question….people answered…. mostly in a “friendly” manner, aside from the”Eat a dong” comment. So what is your problem Kay?
We have that guy on the bus who keeps saying how he’ll move out west and how the N.S. government is trying to trap us all here. He’s been saying that for years non-stop, and he’s STILL around.
The poster wants to know what NS has to offer. I’m asked to defnd my reply:I quote posters on this board:- whiney cry-babies- Freaks- different palette of drugs- weed- Virtually NO traffic (ask the people on Chebucto)– scarsely any pollution and “NO smog” (have you seen the horizon at dusk or noticed the tampon applicators on the shore?)– Trees that line every street (again, ask the people on Chebucto)– cheap rents (on or near Agricola)– People here are friendly (this inspired my comment because people here HATE each other, hedgyhog presenting prime example)– that guy on the bus who keeps saying how he’ll move out west.. and doesn’t. It’s because he’s STUCK in this economy and hit car’s all wrecked to shit because of the bad roadsWhat’s there to do in Halifax? Bitch at each other people, lock it down with bylaws and nothing, no, nothing at all progressive or friendly. This place is chalk full of mean people.
– whiney cry-babies – Kay.- Freaks – Kay- different palette of drugs – WTF?- weed – again, WTF?- Virtually NO traffic (ask the people on Chebucto) – Lets compare our traffic woe’s to Toronto shall we?- scarsely any pollution and “NO smog” (have you seen the horizon at dusk or noticed the tampon applicators on the shore?) – It’s called fog. It happens when when live on the coast. And have you ever heard of Toronto’s toilet that goes by the name of Lake Ontario?- Trees that line every street (again, ask the people on Chebucto) – Not sure if you knew there are more streets in Halifax than Chebucto – I’m just saying.- cheap rents (on or near Agricola) – Gonna have to agree with you on this one.- People here are friendly (this inspired my comment because people here HATE each other, hedgyhog presenting prime example) – People here hate you, Kay. – that guy on the bus who keeps saying how he’ll move out west.. and doesn’t. It’s because he’s STUCK in this economy and hit car’s all wrecked to shit because of the bad roads. – What does that have to do with buddy not leaving? Trains, planes etc. What’s there to do in Halifax? Bitch at each other people, lock it down with bylaws and nothing, no, nothing at all progressive or friendly. This place is chalk full of mean people. – You’re just like the guy on the bus. Why the deuce are you still here?
Yeah… I admit, the “dong” comment was a bit much. It was written in a moment of passion. How bout “eat a hot dog”?
WTF? I was quoting comments from this board. Yeah, I’ll bet fog is suppose to smell like acetone too, eh? See, all of you are mean mean mean!I can’t wait to get out of here but time stands still in this place.. even flows backward sometimes. Someday soon, I hope. In the meantime I’ll become just like you mean fucks. It rubs off, man! Can’t help it. Go fuck yourself.
I gotta tell you kay and I mean this most sincerely… You are one of the most caustic, mean, sum-bitch posters on here… I say that with no ill-will or bad-intent whatsoever… Its just an observation that I make and I suspect many others would agree…
Don’t appologize, FOsi, “eat a dong” was a fine choice. I chuckled when I read it….and thought about taking a big bite tonight, to see how I like it…..some of us have open minds……
Kay’s from Calgary.’nuff said.
Kay’s from her own planet. Same one as Coyotex more than likely. They’d find something they disliked about paradise if they were there.
Kay must be looking for some sort of perfect shangri-la, where everyone is nice, the air is crystal clean, roads are immaculate, and there are no bylaws at all. listen: no where is perfect. when we say there is NO smog here, I mean there is far LESS smog here than in relation to other places. Want smog? go look at the murky soup that is Ontario. it’s hazy, it’s humid, and there are air warnings almost every day all summer long where it is recommended peopel stay inside so they don’t die. traffic? Please. even rush hour at the most congested parts of this city are FAR more loosey goosey than other part sof this country, AND NS drivers are so freaking courteous….look no further than the bridges, where people merge and continue on with no lights or directions. THIS WOULDN’T HAPPEN SOMEWHERE ELSE.trees? Halifax IS the city of trees, they’re old, they’re beautiful, and most streets look like a jungle this time of year. most cities don’t have that.and nice? wlel that’s subjective, sure. but I find maritimes very friendly, laid back, and at least willing to talk aobut problems in a constructive manner. but no where will you find people who are perpetually cheery. if you want that, I’d recommend munchkin land.
To all the posters who didn’t grow up here, but choose to stay because they like it, you are a breath of fresh air to my cyber-nostrils. It is good to know Hali and the maritimes can still make a good impression, and, I have to say, your opinions of Halifax aside, you are exactly the kinds of people Halifax needs more of…despite what some of the negative Nellies out there might say. Cheers guys and gals, see ya at the pub…or the park.
Well said Miles,,,And to all those who DID grow up here, have been away, and have a real appreciation of how lucky we are to in Canada at all,,, let alone in Halifax,,, the power to you,,, hope you are having a great Maritime summer…And for those of you that want to sit around complaining and whining,,, You are just letting life pass you by…Wake up…
I think the OP got just what they wanted…a reaction from everyone else. *G*
I think the OP should leave because it’s a big world and there’s lots to see. Nova Scotia is just a small, small part of the world and I wouldn’t recommend anyone stay in one place forever. As for N.S., well there are SOME friendly people, but plenty more who are very closed minded. And there are friendly people everywhere. I have certainly encountered as many rude people here as anywhere else. There are things to do in N.S. but I think the province can do a lot better. But instead we spend our time bitching about cats, roads, and how immigrants are stealing jobs. I bitch about this province all the time, not because I always hate it, because I see it wasting its potential. And there are other places in the world that have nice scenery, trees on the streets and water you can swim in. Don’t be so naive.A lot of Nova Scotians see the world in black and white around here. New buildings? No, we don’t want them because we want to save the old ones. New industry? No, we want to make old, outdated ones work again. We’re stuck in the past and spend too much time thinking about when times were better (were they really better?) instead of learning to evolve and maybe taking what we have and making it fit the world as it is now and will be down the road. Change is good people! Enbrace it!
