After all my expenses, which is already at a bare minimum,I have less than $10 per month in my entertainment and discretionary expenses budget. It is not much, but I manage to save for my future, as well as sponsor a child from Amnesty international.

Anyway, I’ve been saving all summer just so I can buy a fire truck for my community. What is more basic than a fire trucks?

Well, I get to the store, and instead of paying 8 percent sales tax like in Alberta, you charge me 15%. Premier McNeil, I am sick and tired of you balancing your budget off of my sweat and blood. Have you no ethics? Where is your compassion? I am trying to get ahead, and with friends like you, who needs enemies? —10 year old that loves LEGO

  1. Ask your parents for a raise in your allowance or do odd chores around the house for extra money.

  2. There are two possibilities:
    1. most likely this was written by a parent who thought it would be cute to write in the voice of their child. If so, that parent needs to think before speaking. The sales tax and virtually all of the budget commitments were brought in at their current level long before the MacNeil government. And so, what programs do you suggest they cut so you can save a few bucks on taxes?

Alberta has only been able to keep taxes low due to the sheer dumb luck of having oil and gas wealth. With the price of oil so low they too will be running budget deficits unless they raise taxes soon. You could move back there and be an anti-tax crusader … but you might be disappointed with the resulting quality of services.

    2. if this was indeed written by a 10 year old, you need to Google the Nova Scotia Budget and see for your self where the money goes, kid.The biggest chunk (70%) goes to Health, Education and Community Services combined. That’s why your mother can take you to the doctor without breaking the bank, you will receive a good education if you take the time to study, and the less fortunate are looked after. The rest of the money goes to pay for other services that the public has asked for. Get educated on this and then educate your parent(s).

  3. Well this OB is full of shit. First of all you don’t sponsor children with Amnesty International )wrong organization idiot) and you’ve never been in Alberta. If you did, you would now that Albertans pay only GST which is 5%.

  4. Welcome to reality, Lego Lover. There are no tarsands here, only seniors and students. Go back to Harperland if you hate it so much here. Oh, I forgot. Harperland is now NDPland. How do you think Alberta will survive now? All they have left are cowboys and stripper poles.
