OK, I agree with the sentiment of the OP for sure. However…
The whole ” eye for an eye” quote is often misinterpreted. It is not a about revenge, its about an equal and proportionate response to a wrong doing. As in the punishment should fit the crime, and not be an overreaction to it ( like you offend me, so I kill your whole family = NOT eye for an eye)
Its just one of those phrases that is often misused or twisted into something other than its original meaning and get tossed around quite often out of context like “karma” or “natural selection” or the word “literally”.
Just my two cents since I see this come up quite often on here.
The entire bible has been misinterpreted in some fashion for either political or societal gain, lovinglife. That’s part of the conundrum.

It’s called Reefer Madness don’t ya know? Not the effects of the marijuana. but the implication that the tragic acts of a mentally ill young man are caused by smoking marijuana!
I hate the way that was written, as well. The link between psychosis and marijuana was not explained, so it sounds like pot smokers go crazy when they imbibe. What’s not explained is that people with certain mental illnesses are made much worse when they smoke pot…I’m thinking it’s because their brain chemistry is not correct to start.
Guessing the guy is schizophrenic; schizophrenia and weed do not mix at all. If I remember what I read correctly, weed + schizophrenia can result in “psychotic episodes”. Dunno, I’m neither a shrink nor a neuro-chemist.
The kid had psychotic episodes before the killings which occured when he had also been smoking. Sounds like kettle calling pot black in this scenario.

There’s some evidence that weed can lead to schizophrenia. But the research is in it’s infancy, and mostly correlational in nature.
Dope would be bad for people that have paranoid schizophrenia, since it would only heighten the paranoia. So, in a way, I would assume that weed would also effect a normal schizophrenic in the same fashion because weed affects dopamine, and schizophrenia acts in similar fashion, but as with everything else related to illicit drug use, studies are usually highly biased and correlational.
That said, it was probably the schizophrenia that caused the problem in the first place, not the drugs.
Anyone who has a mental illness obviously shouldn’t be doing psychoactive drugs – thats a given. But to draw a larger parallel that affects the rest of us who can smoke a doob and not go on a rampage is another thing entirely!
if’n you are going on about that little shit that offed the woman in sackville, well he played the nutso at the time card on them. and i guess the suckers that are the courts believed it. don’t worry, he won’t be sick long. i hear that he might be better as so as they give him his 24 hour sentence. to be able to maim and kill someone else, maybe one of the courts family, we can only hope.
if you are on about anyone else, it all depends on who has the better liar, er, lawyer. get the picture.
I accept that some individuals commit heinous crimes and are not cognizant of their actions for psychological reasons. I also accept that at some point these individuals will be evaluated as to their mental fitness to be released back into society. I would like to see every court appointed psychiatrist who approves such a decision legally obligated to employ said individual as a nanny, babysitter or chauffeur for a period of not less than 1 year. Want to roll the dice on the odds of re-offending; better be awful goddamn certain.
