I need a beginner’s licence. Yes, I’m 26 and probably should have done that already but hey! I don’t even have a car. I live downtown, work downtown and I walk everywhere. I’m doing it so that I can potentially drive some other car sometime if I need to. But, this “public service” is hardly accessible through public transit even! And if you have a regular full time job it is not really accessible at all for my needs! Not once, but twice I tried to get over there on my day off and then again on an afternoon off after a doctor’s appointment and both were complete failures.

First, you moved. Fine, I understand, the new digs are pretty nice but so far away. An hour bus ride out of the city at least and if you try to go to the Dartmouth one (which I did, because the wait times are shorter) it’s an hour bus ride PLUS a 2km walk up a hill into no-man’s land.

Second, your website lied about when the services are actually available. After failing on my first attempt I took all the necessary precautions to make sure I got to the right place on time but when I arrived your snide employee advised “That service is only available until 4.” 4pm? No, the website said 4:30pm and it was 4:25pm. So, back down the hill I trekked and waited for the people’s limo to get me back into the city. One-and-a-half hours later, I arrive. I spent six hours of my time trying to be on your time—which wasn’t the right time and I still DON’T HAVE A LICENCE! —Walking is Better Anyway

  1. Access NS is easier to get to over in Bayers Lake. You just hop on the 52 or any bus that gets you to the Lacewood terminal and get on the 21. Both go right by Access NS.

Yes, there are wait times, but there are wait times practically anywhere you access government services these days.

PS: It WOULD be nice to have more evening access to certain services for us 9-5ers.

ALSO: FYI — office of vital stats has moved out to Access NS in Bayers Lake.

  2. I didn’t realize you’re allowed to smile for drivers license pictures….I’ve been making frowny faces since I got my first one. The lady taking my picture kept saying “Give me a smile sweetheart…come on…I know you have a pretty smile”….I thought she was joking and just wanted the dick.

  3. What freaking bus are you taking from downtown that takes an hour(wtf at least) to get just past Penhorn?

  4. The freaking legislature is downtown and many other Provincial offices. You would think they could have a ‘store front’ in the downtown of the capital of the province, as well as on the fringes of suburbia. Those are fine for folks who do not live in the core. Just too easy before when near several buses at both West End Mall and near Portland St. Some ‘friend’ of the Gov’t. must have had a place to rent.

  5. So you said that you showed up at 4:25 when they close at 4:30. I bet you’re one of those assholes that stays at restaurants and stores after they close. It takes more than 5 minutes to get a license done.

“Not once, but twice I tried to get over there on my day off and then again on an afternoon off after a doctor’s appointment and both were complete failures”
Umm, sorry that you fail at planning..? I am pretty sure they are open for at least 8 hours and it definitely doesn’t take 8 hours to bus to Russell Lake, no matter where you’re coming from. If it took you 3 tries to get there on time, I am afraid that you are to blame and perhaps you’re not the kind of person that should be driving anyway.. what, it requiring a brain and all.

  6. Yeah Naveed but he had to walk two kms uphill to get there at 4:25.
There’s a lot of mention about Karma on this site OP. Perhaps Karma doesn’t like the idea of you driving.
Or just get your Dad, Mom, whoever to drive you directly there on your day off.

  7. using a learner’s permit is not much different than walking o.p., you have to have someone with a vehicle to let you drive it. and most times, the insurance says one driver only. if you truly want any kind of license, take your test, then when time comes, go rent a car to take the driving part.
i know of a lot of people that did this. saves a lot of hassle trying to get someone to put you on their policy for one day. because if they didn’t, and you had even a minor ding, their policy would/could get cancelled.

  8. A bare minimum of research would have told you the number 57 goes right by access nova scotia in dartmouth every half hour you idiot.

  9. What Voice of Treason said. Plus, if you bothered to actually look up the Access NS office hours on your computer, instead of whining on here about it, you’d notice that the Dartmouth location offers Registry of Motor Vehicle services, (license, registration, plates, etc) extended hours from 4:30 – 7:00 PM on Wed, Thur and Fri evenings.

  10. I waited for the woodside ferry for 20 minutes one saturday…
always a good idea to read the fine print.
