To the generous entrepreneurs that kept my voice against their corruption silent: even if your intentions are genuine, you have to reconsider what you’re doing. If you want to help the poor, you should change the root cause of the problem which is capitalism itself.
Your business is capitalist. Period. Your business campaign hides the reality that it is the customer’s money that is donating to the poor, it’s not your own. This is a typical, manipulative, selfish and deceiving capitalist scheme to increase sales and profit for your company, which will only continue to distant the business owner from the poor, perpetuating the enormous gap between the rich and the poor. Stop lying to your customers and stop lying to yourself. You’re exploiting the poor for profit and hurting our world.
Also, your statement and founding reasons are offensive. You only perpetuate the problem by acting like being wealthy and materialistic is morally superior to the poor. No one should be belittled by your wealth and success. Buying products only drives the capitalist system that is significantly responsible for poverty…
PPS: You want to alleviate poverty? Your products are advertised as local and they aren’t even made in the maritimes.

Anyone else smell Patchouli?
Ivan?

Oh yeah. You have to have lived off the benefits of “capitalist” society just to have the leisure time to learn revolutionary dialectic like that. I wonder if it’s one of the 2 coffee slinging “unionistas”?
speaking of life styles. i see the u.s. of assholes is up to it’s old terrorists tricks again. this time with the boston marathon.this is a very good ruse to divert attention away from obama and his very fucked up admin. yep, you want to keep an eye of those folks there, because they could bring their act this way, and soon.
a lot of people are dying because of crooked politricks stateside, and this last trick, should make everyone think. are there any real terrorists, other than the gubments, hard to tell now, really. but people are losing their lives, just to keep the war machine going, and the blame from the real killers.
i don’t know what obama has to do with it, but the us has lots of homegrown loonies
obama’s admin, is seriouly in debt, huge debt, and he has no better chance to divert attention away from it right now. people are calling for his impeachment, something we should seriouly consider for our crooks in off in canada. this is almost the same as bush’s shit, when he wanted iraq for the defence capabilities to the mid east. if you control the area, you can put your missles in place, and say fuck you, to the rest of the world.
saddam was against the u.s. putting nukes in his homeland, there fore, he had to go. bagdagd is dead in the center of most mid east nations and a damn good place to have a nuke site, for first strike capabilities.
sounds nuts yeah, it is, and the u.s. is too. they either start the wars by sticking their noses in, and then inflaming any situation that arises. god p.r. work by the white shack. but yes, they do shit to get people’s mind off problems at home. worked many times in the past. check your history books people. and this now, at a time when the u.s. is hard pressed for cash, people going broke, and businesses moving elsewhere, because of the failing u.s. econemy. look at it this way, canada might be next.
You are one of the most willingly ignorant people I have ever met.
p
OB probably taught a lion to eat tofu.
Fuck sakes. First ghetto rats now dirty hippies.
This board smells real bad now.
nah, don’t be like that paul. really, think on it some. a military expert would tell you the same thing.the scenario is there, just has to be sen. how many nuke powers are close to that area, in about a thousand miles or so, there is india, japan, china, france, england, and of course the korea’s. then we have pakistan, russia, syria, egypt, and a whole host of other nutbars, just waiting to take that first shot. but back to the marathon there, obama is in serious trouble stateside, it’s been in the news for awhile now, and he, like georgie jr. will do whatever he can to divert any attention away from their failing presidency. it certainly wouldn’t be the first time either.
all the gubments of this world are corrupt in some form or other, some get their hand smacked and ousted from office. others choose to start wars, so that they cannot be ousted as easily. look at history paul, a war president is there til that war ends, there can be no elections held, because of said war.
ivan, you know a lot about war and history, explain it to us all. you should be able to find all the info in your head. but we in canada are fairly safe for now, but just watch who will get the blame for this shit. i’m betting either north korea, or al quaida. the two scapegoats of this century. bet on it dude, there is a shit storm arising and very fucking soon. and am i ignorant, no, just a realist, with an eye on our smarmy gubments. as we should all do.
—–
the two scapegoats
—–
Al Quaida actually *does* that shit. Or homegrown terrorists. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was batshit crazy homegrown guys.
Blaming it on the gov’t in this specific instance is bull, and you know it.
1) As long as they have a fleet of ballistic missile carrying submarines, the U.S. has a first strike capability, and they’ve had it since the 1960s. Whatever the invasion of Iraq was about, it certainly was not about putting American land based nuclear weapons in an anarchic middle eastern country that also happens to be within missile range of those nuclear powers which have traditionally opposed the U.S.
2)Japan is not a nuclear power. Neither is South Korea, Syria or Egypt.
3)In the case of those American “war” presidents who were there ’til the war ended only Madison (War of 1812) Polk (Mexican-American War)Lincoln (Civil War), McKinley (Spanish American War) Wilson (WW1) & Bush Sr. (1st Gulf War)meet the criteria. Lincoln had to wage an election in 1864, while the war was in progress. Roosevelt died in office during WW2 and was succeeded by Truman. Truman and Eisenhower were presidents during the Korean War. Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson , Nixon and Ford were presidents during the Vietnam war(if you include the time from the first deployment of U.S. troops in-country to the final defeat of the Saigon government in 1975) Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan and Bush Sr. were presidents during the Cold War. Bush Jr. & Obama have been in power during the so-called war on terror. Both had to contest elections while the war was being waged. If you want to think in terms of Islam’s war on the west, then Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton, Bush Jr. & Obama have all been president during it’s timeframe.
4)As far as conspiracy theories go, the only point I will make is this. Fatarse Rosie O-Donnell was shooting off her mouth long and loud about her certainty that the U.S. government was behind 9-11. I guess watching “Loose Change” makes you an expert in controlled demo.
But she’s been uncharacteristically silent about theories from the right-wing loonie fringe that Newtown was “staged” by the U.S. Government in order to disarm the American people. I wonder why that is. Conspiracy theories are a cheap tactic used by people too lazy and stupid to engage in real political discourse. It’s our generation’s way of saying “Troy only lost to the Greeks because of the meddling of the Gods”
Mythology is fine, just don’t confuse it with history or science.
all well and good comrade ivan. i humbly bow to your extensive knowledge of facts. but just for arguements sake, what if the u.s did invade iraq for what i mentioned. even tho the nutbars there would freak, you have to admit one thing. within 5 minutes, not 20 as some say, the u.s. missiles would be a real bitch to try and stop.
by the time russia could launch, and be detected over the pole, a lot of time would elapse, therefore if the u.s has their own close by, they would need a tiny fraction to launch a counter attack at said russia, close or what?
but getting back to government interferring in world politics, yes, i firmly believe that the majority of shit that goes on, is directly connected to u.s. powers that are/were/want to be. we can only sit and hope that canada will stay out of any further conflict that the u.s. instigates, on the behalf of the world. superpower they may be, but not a god.
tj902, no, i won’t stfu, and know why, people died to make this a free country, along with a lot of other shit that everyone takes for granted. so, you voice your opinion, and i’ll voice mine. i agree to disagree with you, and ain’t it wonderful that we can do just that. but let’s sit back and watch this new drama unfold shall we. al quaida is already being bandied about by c.n.n., and w know where that outfit leans, don’t we. same as fox news. they were saying a 100 plus dead, while everyone else was giving accurate coverage. gotta love state run propaganda news.
All I know is it is scientifically, physically impossible for those planes to have felled the towers. I trust engineers and scientists over any other explanation given by govt. That being said, anyone who says they know the deal is retarded. There are so many REAL issued right out in the open without indulging in conspiracies.
Political discourse is meaningless in a plutocracy, which is what the US is. Fits the dictionary definition to a T.

all well and good comrade ivan. i humbly bow to your extensive knowledge of facts.

I accept your gracious apology.

KIDDING!
But seriously. I wasn’t wrong, was I?

“u.s. missiles would be a real bitch to try and stop”
They would be an even bigger bitch to try and protect, and, not just from an air strike. Simple fact is there is lots of cheaper, friendlier real estate, but even that lacks the security and surprise element of submarine launched ballistic missiles.
Anyway – I apologize for the “lazy and stupid” crack, but conspiracy theories have the same affect on me as “intelligent design” masquerading as science.
For me, there is one very compelling reason to doubt the so-called global Machiavellian designs of “Amerika” , and it’s a very simple one. The last president to initiate a long term project was Kennedy with the space program. Since then, no American leader has had the vision, much less the fortitude to put into motion something whose benefits would not be made apparent before the end of his first term.
That is because they all do what they are told. See-plutocracy. Obama is Bush is whoever else is up next. Bought and paid for by the moneyed interests.

I disagree, but it’s not worth a donnybrook.
I hate you so fucking much. We should fight. Let’s have a fight. Why can’t you admit it’s the lizard people?!
JFK gave us the space program. Carter follows up with Dallas. Reagan teams up with Vince McMahon and gives the world WRESTLEMANIA!
It’s probably the same goddamn assholes that keep wrapping the shit out of their oh so special boats in the winter. I’m so goddamn sick and tired of this shit.
Holy shit the Conspiracy Theorists are out in full force but surprised I am not. So Bush destroyed the towers and now Obama blew up the Boston Marathon. Fuck get a life. Yes some politicians are inept and not liked but to think they would kill hundreds or thousands of their own people is just plain ridiculous. In the first place they wouldn’t be able to keep a secret like this. Hell they couldn’t even keep Watergate secret and that was a very small operation.
As for Capitalism, without it, there would be no charities. Who the fuck do you think gives the billions needed to keep these charities going? It certainly isn’t you and me.
Oh .All. Right. *sigh*
“IT’S THE LIZARD PEOPLE!”
Happy now? >; )
I knew it! I fucking knew it was the Lizard People!!!
And I can’t emphasize this strongly enough, by “Lizard People” we actually mean 12 ft. tall, interdimensional reptilian aliens. Not the, you know…..
They’re called Annunaki! For frig sakes… you’d think some people would remember the name for their own overlords.
FYI: They actually HATE being called ‘The Lizard People’ – It drives them nuts! You guys keep that up, and they’re not gonna take you with them to a higher vibrational state like they promised.
Hay! “Lizard People” is OUR word for THEM. And it’s time WE took it back!
Amirite?
The World would be in far better shape, financially, morally and environmentally if CATS were in charge?
Yes BroTim. You areletting your respect for authority blind you to history. And the US gov has a rich history of killing people in secret and outside the law. Iran-Contra is the most famous example. How many thousands died?Oh right, they were Central Americans so don’t count. If you think it isn’t possible, you don’t know history. That simple.
I dunno about that Baz. Anonymous recently leaked this previously classified C.I.A. after-action report:

Pretty scary reading, I tell ya hwut.
I for one welcome our Annunaki overlords.

On an only slightly related tangent, I been having very vivid recurring dreams lately that involve me being frozen in Carbonite and traded for Spice.
This raises serious psychological questions.
What I need to know is, should I have ribs or pasta arrabiata for supper tonight?
In my recurring dream, I have a threesome with an Ewok and Cpt Picard. I have no complaints. Earl Grey, haaaawt.
You are going to need years and years of therapy. >: (

WHAT IS THE HISTORICAL FACT?
“You’re exploiting the poor for profit and hurting our world.” Not Living Your Lifestyle
“Mythology is fine, just don’t confuse it with history and science.” Ivan Sonofabitch (04/15, 7:02PM)
Just as from the infinite ocean of facts the historian selects those which are significant for his purpose, so from the multiplicity of sequences of cause and effect, he extracts those, and only those, which are historically significant; and the standard of historical significance is his ability to fit them into his pattern of rational explanation and interpretation.” E.H. Carr – “What is History?”
While at first glance the three quotations do not appear to have any relation with each other, that is not the case. Not Living Your Lifestyle’s assertions rest upon an anti-capitalist interpretation of current events, events which of course have emerged from the historical past. However, for his critique to have force he must ground it in his pattern of rational interpretation where, by “rational” is to be understood as being fact-based. In other words, Not Living Your Lifestyle has interpretation but no facts to support it.
In contrast, Ivan Sonofabitch advises us not to confuse mythology with history and science by which I take him to mean that while the latter two are fact-based, the former is not. This seems to be doubly confused. Is his claim that the “facts” of both history and science are of a similar sort? Surely he cannot mean this if for no other reason than the “facts” of history relate to inanimate matter while the “facts” of history relate to purposive, intentional human activity. In other words, the “facts” of history and science are of radically sorts. Secondly, his assumption of similarity between the “facts” of history and science suggest, contra Not Living Your Lifestyle, are simply that, i.e., “facts” not requiring interpretation, that pattern of rational explanation and interpretation which bestows meaning upon them. This is called “positivism”, the philosophical movement started by Auguste Comte in 19th. century France which claimed that all knowledge is ultimately reducible to empirical specification without human, i.e., interpretive intervention. Is Ivan Sonofabitch a positivist?
In contrast to both, E.H. Carr claims that while there exists that “ocean of facts” from which to draw, the historian must must select from them based upon their significance and their significance rests, in turn on his pattern of rational explanation and interpretation. In other words, there can be no “fact-value dichotomy” as the positivists maintain. But what is the historian’s pattern of rational explanation and interpretation? It is his philosophy, that by which both the world of the past and consequently that of the present makes sense. There is no such thing as an interpretation-free “fact”. That is why the word “fact” was in quotation marks. It is a positivistic chimera. It is only and ultimately upon philosophical grounds that conflicting historical interpretations can be engaged, if not resolved.
So what is the historical fact? It is to be distinguished from the historical event which has long passed into the mists of time. Consequently, the historical fact does not exist “out there” but rather in the mind of the historian who writes about the event. But, pace (that’s Latin, meaning “peace to”) Ivan Sonofabitch, it is not the simple chronicle of events – to say nothing about their military capability of competing sides – as such which constitutes his history but rather that combination of events and the philosophy of the historian who writes them. Consequently, in his turn, the student of history does not simply absorb the interpretation of previous historians but rather engages in the act of historical interpretation himself – some call it “heuristics” – which consists of the double movement from locating the historian’s pattern of rational explanation and interpretation and then integrating it into his own, the student’s pattern of rational explanation and interpretation. It’s not easy.
History is therefore ultimately an art, not a science.
A pleasure as always.

Agreed. I think it’s time these lovelies revisited us:

Be glad you kept your voice shut against the corruption. You still have your job. The others’ big mouths found them fired. Unions for barristas? What next! Try going to college or university like the rest of the world. You chose to pour coffee for a living – therefore, you get paid accordingly. Why should every tom dick and harry be protected by unions? You make minimum wage because it doesn’t take any skill or craft to do what you do. You make coffee for a livin. You barristas even get tips too! Most of the other minimum wage jobs don’t come with this benefit. So, take your pittance and shut up or invest in an education like everyone else gotta do.
oh op. If only everything were as simple as you were.
CORRECTION!!!
” Surely he cannot mean this if for no other reason that the ‘facts’ of history relate to inanimate matter while the ‘facts’ of history relate to purposive, unintentional human activity.” “What Is the Historical Fact?” (04/16, 1:14PM)
The correct reading should be, “.. the ‘facts’ of science relate to inanimate matter while the ‘facts’ of history relate to purposive, intentional human activity.”
I was surprised that no one picked up on this but, on reading the subsequent comments and the level of their intellectual attainment, I realized that my surprise was misplaced.
I suppose that’s why Ivan never responded to the charge of historical positivism in his confounding of historical events with historical facts which, after all was the point of the post. It was his level of intellectual attainment.
A pleasure as always.
Cheerio!
No Montrealman – the reason that i didn’t respond to yopur illusory accusation of thoughtcrime was becasue I was busy having a jolly old wank to the picture of the Princess Leias having a pillow fight. I may have a propensity for confounding historical events with historical facts – but I do have my priorities straight.
