To my thoughtful colleague who phoned me this morning (Wednesday) to offer to take me to lunch just because he hadn’t seen me in awhile: your gesture has really brightened what has otherwise been a pretty bleak few weeks. I get really awkward when people offer to buy things for me so I’m not sure I articulated it very well on the phone, but I just wanted to say an enormous thank you for the friendly reminder that there are some wonderful people in this big, bad world.
