“By the way, that product you’ve been working on for the last two weeks? we’ve decided to go with something else.”—Not very important

  1. Welcome to the world of business and manufacturing. You’re not the first and definitely not the last. Get used to it. It’s a grown up world.

  2. Assuming the OP was working on it as a professional… at least they still have to pay you for the hours you spent working on it. If not, you got suckered into a bad deal, or I completely misunderstood the situation.

  3. Unfortunately, snoop, in some industries you can work for weeks on an RFP and the client can go elsewhere. It sucks and you’re completely unpaid for that time but that’s the way it is because for every three unpaid/unsuccessful RFPs submitted/presented, you could get one that could pay off big time. Nature of the business.

  4. Yep, in my business there are several different kinds of contracts you can take on. Some of them suck, some of them don’t. I only sign the ones that pay by hour and cover my ass if something goes wrong. OP might not have that kind of flexibility, though.

  5. I guess I could have used a better example of how it’s not too big of a deal if OP was paid to work on the product and could probably use it somewhere else (unlike my boob job example where a change of mind is a big deal).
