I wish I could have just one moment of quiet in this god damn city. Yes, it is partly my fault for choosing to live downtown. But between the construction, car alarms, noisy neighbours and street musicians (who need to take a fucking day off by the way)
I feel like I’m going to lose my fucking mind! It’s constant! And it’s too god damn hot to close the windows so I guess the only solution is to cut off both of my fucking ears. —No peace

I’d rather listen to the Hillbilly Hollow drunks roll around in my ditch than live in downtown Halifax. Nothing that a case of Keiths and two skinned raccoons can’t solve.
the only things i hear out where i am in fairview, are the occasional sirens gong out the bedford hiway, or up the hill from me. my area is decent and pretty good people live close to me. i have been here for 6 years, and wouldn’t move for a million bucks, really.
I got used to the noise living on Spring Garden and Robie. I’m a heavy sleeper I guess. If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen.
PARTLY your fault? Try ALL your fault. The city was the way it was before you moved your ass in, so stfu or move somewhere else.
Not the city’s fault your sensitive little ears are put out.
Not all people have the option of living in the serene countryside…I for one live downtown because my job is downtown, and I can’t afford a car yet. Also, I’d rather deal with some city noise than a daily commute into the city. So I agree it really is just ‘partly’ OP’s fault for living downtown.
I can hear the wind whispering through the trees right outside my window right now.
Every so often I can hear birds chirping.
A car drove by the house about an hour or so ago.
just incredibly boring out here….just the way i like it ~;)
that is my all time favourite sound…wind in my two maples, cherry and birch trees. the birds go without saying. deep in the western world
I live almost downtown and all I hear right now is the wind through the maple & lilac trees in the backyard, the odd noisy (in need of muffler or some kid who thinks its cool to have a loud car) vehicle, rain and some chickadees… cheeeeeseburger. The last few nights the Lebanese Festival had some music going but I took advantage of that by sitting out on the deck with a beer and enjoying it! If you don’t like the sounds of the city you can always move out to Clayton Park or something and invest in a bus pass! I love living here!
shit i went from a semi-remote BC isle. (very VERY quite) to downtown TO (not so much quite) something in the middle is nice; like now small town pop. 20 thou 🙂
umm quiet not quite 🙂
I disagree, blue knows. One does not need a car to commute downtown, and there are many areas outside the “downtown” core that are either within walking distance, or do not require a particularly long commute that are nice and quiet. No one is forced to live downtown.
Earplugs.
Buy some noise cancelling headphones and a 24 of Keiths – then when you’re hammered and talking to yourself people will think you’re listening to the music in your head “can you hear the lambs Clarice?”
There are plenty of quiet places in HRM, but like the OP says, they chose to live downtown and noise comes included with it.
It’s not partially your fault, it’s entirely your fault… Want peace and quiet? Go for a walk to PPP or simply move to the sticks. Otherwise don’t plan yourself in the middle of downtown as expect Ecum Secum
Halifax noise is such a bully. Typical of Nova Scotia.
I live in downtown dartmouth, I have a 20 minute commute to downtown via ferry, and hear very little noise. It’s also much cheaper to live here than in downtown halifax.
You can’t expect the world to stop because you want some peace and quiet.
Maybe you should take a camping trip.
I quite like the sound of the foghorn in the middle of the night. I love looking out over Ochterloney and seeing cars almost smash into another during rush hour. I love the sound of of the street cleaners.
Move to Wolfville. I’m pretty sure they’ve got a nice, quiet town.
wolfville is scorchingly hot and horridly smelly though.
Which senses are you choosing to attack?
I’d take noise over fertilizer any day.
and not that I think TPB’s are accurate in any way (they actively try NOT to be in fact)
… but chickadees don’t sound like ‘cheeeeeseburger’…. that’s a blue jay.
chickadees sound like ‘chick-a-dee-dee-dee’
The sound of a train whistle passing through town is also a comforting sound too… one I grew up with. I live in the middle of everythign here in Halifax, and it’s only taken me a couple months to get used to the noise. If I REALLY don’t want my sleep interrupted, I just wear earplugs.
As for birds: no way, blue jays have the most screeching call in the fucking world. They’re gorgeous but awful.
For your info:
“The Chickadee, also are more heard than seen, has a distinctive “chick-a-dee” call. They are also referred to as the “cheeseburger bird” due to their spring/summer call that sounds similar to “cheese-bur-ger”.”
But you’re right, zZz, they usually sound like chick-a-dee-dee-dee…
WHAT?
I’ve WATCHED the blue jay make the deeeeeeeeeee doo-doo sounds that was dubb’d ‘cheeseburger’ not long ago.
I used to ‘chat’ with them while I was waiting for the bus to school.
Unless it was a chickadee in disguise… trying to act all big and macho in front of his other bird friends…. but where would one acquire a blue jay getup for a chickadee?
Dunno, dude, that was courtesy of a “brownies camping guide” or something like that.
Perhaps they picked up last halloween on discount from Walmart. They sell everything…
true… if you can get a power-ranger outfit for your cat or small dog, you likely could find it….
speaking of… I think I need to do some photo-browsing tonight for a new pic…
keep it nc-17 at the very least zZz^^^
oh, there’ll be pussy….
I know I have pics of my kitty in his power ranger outfit.
Judge all you like, I took no part in it other than the pics so the poor guy didn’t have to endure it on any other occasions.
well i don’t know about the other bitches, but i would like to see that
A kitty in a power ranger suit? That would certainly make my day… I can just imagine my lazy old kitty in one as well… and it cracks me up.
it shall be done…
eventually.
