What’s up with over the counter cold and flu medication that claims to be “Non Drowsy” and still knocks me on my ass?
I just want to take something during the day that will allow me to breathe at least somewhat normal without making me feel like I haven’t slept in a week. I would hate to take the night time option for these medications, I’d probably end up in a coma. —Hates being sick in the summer

Be careful. One time I bought some sort of no-name brand medication that had daytime and nighttime capsules, but the colours were the opposite of what the name brand kind were. I took the nighttime ones instead of the daytime ones and almost fell asleep while driving to work…
it was bad.
poor baby, need a nurse maid, i’m available, if you are female.
It’s all dependent on the drug too. Some painkillers react differently when combined with the pseudoephedrine and/or caffeine that are in most remedies. It could also be that you’re coming down from the aforementioned combinations.
At the end of the day, it’s probably best that you avoid them altogether.
stay away from that shite, one kind has pseudo ephedrine, which speeds you up, the other stuff puts you into a coma. they use cold medication to make meth-amphetamines. tho nose spray probably isn’t much better
Hot tea & lemon… extra sleep at night… chicken soup… a ton of OJ… vicks. I always stay away from that other crap, because it makes me feel weirder and dopier than without. Thankfully (knocking on wood) I’ve been 2 years with only a minor sniffle… Feel better soon OB.
i was going to attempt to make some matzo ball soup…if you don’t feel better let me know
That’s not entirely true, PG. While pseudoephedrine may be a precursor to meth, OTC meds rarely have enough pseudoephedrine to make it worthwhile except for most of the dedicated labs, not to mention, it’s also tightly controlled.
yes doc, thank you i failed to mention that
The medication probably was a non-drowsy formula. It was your sick body that made you tired. Non-drowsy does not mean wake up.
Nyquil & Vodka. a good healthy slug of that and you’ll swear that Claus Von Bulow is leaning over you wishing you sweet dreams.
Ivan… for shame… you forgot the ‘Big Fuckin’ Q’.
and forget that pseudoephedrine crap… go for the real deal.
makes you all tingly and feel like running a marathon when taken with a sugar rush (creatine).
It totally got a bogus wrap what with that MLB pitcher and all.
Now it’s bloody well impossible to find unless you feel like taking 8 doses of decongestants in one shot which makes you snivel like a broken-hearted tween for a few hours.
I have the same issue OP. I’m not sure why but even non-drowsy formulas (all kinds) make me feel like I smoked 10 grams of weed or something. I just avoid them altogether. I think it’s just that some people’s bodies react differently to meds. Just stay in bed if you can :D, otherwise just tough it out like I do. It’s not so bad.
rusty nails made with really good scotch
When I’m sick I load myself up with over the counter meds. That way I’m too stoned to realize I’m sick 😀
It’s pretty simple, there is no such thing as non-drowsy… There are minor differences to make them less-drowsy, but that’s it. Non-drowsy is the same marketing ploy as fat free yougurt on Seinfeld…
coffee & brandy.
Have a half dozen or more before bedtime…it may not actually help you, but you really won’t give a shit by #6 ~;)
