To the grown man in line behind me to get into this evenings food truck party that decided the $2 entry fee was “absolutely fucking ridiculous”. Your a real piece of shit, leaving the line to sneak in for free. Someone is willing to put together a community event where you have access to restaurant quality food from a number of different vendors, and you don’t want to pay a very small fee to help with overhead costs? Instead of spending your evenings sneaking into such events, perhaps you should get a second job. I feel bad for your girlfriend, as she clearly doesn’t feel comfortable enough to speak up to you and tell you how pathetic you are. —Toonies aint a thang

  1. While a toonie entry fee isn’t going to break the bank… Making folks pay to spend their money (to the profit of the trucks involved) is a little ridiculous.

I understand permits/rent/fees are probably involved, these trucks participating are going to have the opportunity to make more cash than if they didn’t participate and should cover these fees. It’s like going to a movie and paying to watch advertisements. It’s maddening.

I know I’m not spending money just for the privilege of being allowed to patronize a for-profit business.

  2. Entry fees for events like this help keep out the folks who just show up and hang around all day without spending a penny. It happened a lot in the early days of some of the annual festivals so they had to start charging an entry fee to cut down on the unproductive crowding. I wonder though if it would be better to sell a $2 voucher as the entry fee. That way they would only have customers show up and the customers would still be getting something for their money. And for the record, I do know a guy who has in the past and still would show up at an event like this and literally not spend a penny. He would just hang around all day leering at the females in the crowd. So it’s worth $2 cover to keep him out. Take my word for it!

  3. They charged to get in to buy glorified french fries? I wonder if ‘ole Hali will ever get a real food truck? Send these tater trucks to PEI and get something good? Oh, the donut boys are excluded…

  5. That’s the risk you take, full of beans, when you run an outlet to sell your crap. Tons of people go to the mall and don’t buy anything. Should they have to pay to get in? Just because you offer a service, doesn’t mean people have to buy anything. What if I don’t see anything at the food truck festival that I like?

It’s just ridiculous to charge for this type of thing and I’ll never go until they drop the fee.

  6. Last time I checked actual restaurants didn’t charge admission to enter the building. Most of the food truck stuff is hideously overpriced, anyway.

  7. I can see maybe grabbing something as you are passing one of these trucks on the street but I’m not sure what the attraction of a festival of trucks is. Sounds like a day of waiting in line.

Anyway, I used to like the truck that sold cones made with pureed frozen bananas back in the 80s.. He was on Spring Garden and went by The Banana Man.

  8. The only thing I can conclude from this Bitch is that the guy who left the line to sneak in to the party is most likely a member of ISIS. Their a bunch of dicks.

  9. Not all food trucks are created equal. Some do much better than others and having a entry fee helps share the profits/costs between all the different trucks. Theres costs associated with hosting these rally, like renting parking lots, getting permits, powering the trucks, etc

Some trucks sell good quality food too – local, gourmet, prepared from scratch. Others are more standard

these food trucks don’t always make a lot of money, these events help them support their business. I’m not saying you have to go to the event, but protesting it is just silly. Not surprising tho, some of you are pretty silly because its apparently ridiculous for people to make a profit from organizing and hosting events like this.

either spend the toonie, or stop complaining about something you don’t/won’t participate in

  10. NOTHING MUCH TO SAY

I really don’t have much of anything to say about this absurd bitch but I have to say something to post my new avatar. Outstanding, right?

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!

  11. that 2 dollar voucher/ticket is a great idea. the arguments above for the toonie admission are bizarre- why not charge admission to the brewery market? paying to be able to then buy a product is nutso. this event is for the trucks-if not for sales (roughly 3 bucks per big deep fried potato), then advertising. in austin, portland, sf, and other cities where food trucks are common, the owners pay for access to the customers (lot parking/festivals/proximity to big events), not the other way around. charging admission to ‘help offset costs”? that’s why you are charging money for the thing you sell.

  12. No way, it’s two bucks to enter? For some reason I would have just assumed that it was free. Now, I was thinking of hitting this thing up and probably end up spending 20 bucks or more on ‘gourmet’ food truck food, and I’m not cheap, but man, 2 bucks/head? No thanks. I’ll take advantage of a nearby foodtruck for free next time I have a hankering for some foodtruck fare. And it’s not about being cheap, obvi. This just has that same reek of, well, can’t give it a name but it has the same odor as those yelp ‘cash mobs’ that were big for a couple of minutes. Sorry, Food Truck Party, back that truck up and be gone. I’m curious, do they need the admittance fees to pay for the use of the Museum parking lot, or is that free?

  13. I went to the one before it… waited in line for 15 over minutes and didn’t take a single step forward.
    At that point, I left.
Glad I didn’t have to pay any ‘entry fee’ for not even being ABLE to buy any food I was desperately trying to purchase.

  14. I understand the entrance fee to offset lot rental and the bit of admin costs to clean and run it, but in my cheap green eyes I don’t want to spend money to stand in those sort of lines.

And I do have a soft spot for this new foodie truck trend. But I can hunt them down with the food truck app they have out now.
