To the oblivious asshole in Dairy Queen on Spring Garden last weekend,

I want to thank you for obliterating my faith in humanity. Standing in line, your phone rings. You pull it out, stare at it, let it ring a few times so the restaurant knows you’re getting a phone call, then proceed to answer it. Loudly. Suddenly, it’s your turn in line, and you point at the menu and say “Two of those, bro.” The cashier had to turn around and figure out what you wanted, with no help from you, still jabbering on your cell.

Then, the cashier decided to ask you a most horrifying and offensive question: “What size?” Not once or twice but three times, since you were so enraptured with your phone conversation. Finally, after grunting out an answer, you had the nerve to say to your phone buddy, “Sorry man, these people keep interrupting me.” THESE PEOPLE are trying to serve you, you stupid dipshit! I couldn’t contain my ice-bitch glare, and the man behind me even started laughing at you. If I were that cashier, I guarantee you I would have been fired that day.

  1. If I was working the cash I would have just told the guy to let me know when he was ready and served the next customer. That’s probably why I don’t do customer service. Very little patience for that kind of stuff.

  2. I think that customer service people should start doing like Miles suggests, and serve the people who are waiting to be served, not the ones who are obviously busy with their phone conversations. Then all the happily served customers should relay their happiness to the supervisors. The one guy on the phone who has to wait and complains will be far outweighed by the 5 who were happy with the service.

  3. Smile, quickly take the cell phone out of his hand, snap it shut and say, “what is it that you wanted to order?”

  4. Another self indulged cell phone asshole. I bet he uses it not hands free while driving too. He’ll eventually stuff his car into something.

  5. When I worked retail a few years ago I would stand behind the counter and ingnore those who couldn’t put down their cellphone while doing a transaction. I’d simply motion to the next person to come forward, especially if dealing with one of those cell users who felt that snapping their fingers and pointing instead of talking to me was the way to conduct business.

  6. You could have just moved him out of the way and said, “I know what I want.”

Staff could have waited on you then.

  7. Saw a sign once in a coffee shop: “we will be happy to serve you once your cellphone conversation is over”. Seemed like a useful sign given people’s rudeness.

  8. In this day and she there is a certain etiquitte for cell phones and being in public sounds like this ignorant ass needs to be taught I hate people like that

  9. Did this prick have a popped collar and a gallon of gel in his hair? What a prick.
