Maybe it’s me, but there’s a certain ‘Je ne sais quoi’ about people that work at various businesses in Halifax. I think the best way to describe them is smarmy, especially some cafes in downtown Halifax. It’s either the “thanks sweetie” extreme of coffee chains or the “smarmy” of other places. Maybe I’m just not hip enough for the smarm joints. Maybe I should grow a goatee and dress in a black sports jacket with black jeans. Maybe I should look like I just jumped from the pages of GQ. Maybe I should look like an anarchist (reformed). There is definitely something fundamentally wrong with a lot of businesses in our fair city. Maybe that’s why a number of businesses fail. Learn to respect all customers and wipe the smarm off you face… there is no entitlement of cool, no special cache that comes with it. —Smarmed-Off

Or make your coffee at home. Coffee drinkers are a strange breed. I couldn’t imagine incorporating standing in line or waiting in the drive thru into my every single day routine.

To be honest here… this conversation is annoying and boring. I signed up to this 2 weeks ago and am thinking of quitting because of dumb conversations like this.

I agree this city is full of fake hipster shitheads, but for the most part people will reciprocate a positive attitude. Try smiling and saying hello, and I’m sure you’ll get a half decent response. Always remember that hipsters are generally harmless.
And if it’s that bad, make your own coffee. It’s WAY cheaper. And you can even time your machine before you go to bed to go off in the morning which is a good time saver.

Totally agree with you!! Hate pretentious places!! Went in a shop last week and people working were so rude that I go to another more further away shop just to avoid them. They didn’t know I worked for their sister store, and I would never treat customers that way. Leaving job because can’t stand snobbery!! There is such a thing as smiling!! Arrg!!
