Simple question: Why are cars made to go far faster than most posted speed limits? Why does any average joe need to drive 180 km/h? Speeding wastes gas and is very dangerous. Other than emergency vehicles, I see no need for cars to travel any more than 100 km/h maybe less. I’d rather see police cars be far faster than ANY car the bad guys are driving. These stunting accidents in the news lately has brought this to mind. Yeah, let’s slow things down. —Righteous Slowpoke

100km an hour is not that fast for a 4 lane highway.
No, I don’t agree with you.
If you are uncomfortable at high speeds, take the bus.
Police cars ARE faster than most vehicles. If you look on the back of a Crown Vic, you will see “Police Interceptor” a model that is stronger than the street version.
Back in the 1980s, car speedometers only went up to 85 mph/140kph. You could still drive faster than that, though. If you did, you ‘pinned it’. I had a digital dash, and the number flashed.
speeding isn’t dangerous. Otherwise the autobahn would be a deathtrap. It is not. It is safer than most american highways. Idiots are dangerous.
Besides, how else are you planning to outrun ninjas should the issue ever arise? Danger is an extenuating circumstance. You’ll appreciate it when the time comes.
Obviously the OB has never driven Highway 101. Driving 100km/hr there and you’re holding up traffic. Power to the pedal, and pedal to the metal 🙂 OB, get back on your loser cruiser bus.
Don’t agree with me Sebastard, it makes me sick.
this has always made me wonder too. why the hell, is you car or whatever listed at whatever klm’s per hour, when you are allowed only so many klm’s per hour, on the open road.
to me, that is just inviting people to speed, and therefore break the law.but know what, speed doesn’t kill, it’s the idiot behind the wheel. there are/were times, whe i went over the limit, quite far over, i might add.i had an old 76 plymouth volaire premier, that was clock at 180 miles an hour, by a friend cop, that was doing radar one day. i asked him to give me a shot, to see, just how fast this car was.the odemeter was only registered for 160 miles per hour. yes, i said miles, remember those things, before the pansy metric system was forced on us, and that is becoming less ans less outstanding, everyday.
anyway, this car was a fast fucking rig, but still, why the need to have that much speed, or do anywhere near that.just goes to show, what kind of brains are at work, in auto industry. my old 86 honda 4 wheeler, will do about 70 miles an hour, in top gear, even that is too fast.
100km isn’t even the limit in a number of places anyways….
110’s are popping up as the twinning comes along.
you’re also putting a lot of places out of business by limiting the car’s top speed.
No more need for performance parts. Cold air intakes, superchargers, etc… why bother if you’re capped at 110?
NOS would go bust or be forced into the black market…
who the fuck would buy the mid-level cars when the economy car goes the same speed and less gas? I mean ok, it gets up to speed more quickly but am I really going to splurge so that I can get up to 110 4 seconds quicker and then be forced to coast from there on out?
Plus… it’d just feel weird having my foot to the floor driving the highway the entire time.
There are highways in Canada that have a 110kmh speedlimit, so i dont see a 100kmh car being well liked. However, on the other extreme, i see no need for a car to do 180kmh.
Governing a vehicle’s speed, not HP sounds like a doable thing. But i doubt that excessive speed causes concerns with insurance companies otherwise the laws would already exist.
1. Smart cars only go about 100 klicks…
they aren’t quite the ragingly popular car any more these days….
and
2. most cars n trucks do have a governer… 145 or so for some that I’ve seen…
it’s sometimes crucial to need some speed, mostly to avoid accidents. i hate driving cars that don’t have guts…i have never driven a smart car but they seem like a good urban choice, but on the major hwys i’d feel safer on a motorcycle
“ninjas” … Lol I just pictured ninjas in snow suits … ya know cause it is N.S ad all. *groan*
Someone told me you can’t drive under 80kph on the Autobahn unless you’re a trailer etc. and people typically drive 150kph. Funny that there’s a min speed limit. Do we have min speed limits for the highways here? … I should probably know this …
In Quebec they are posted, Donk, minimum 60, maximum 100. I think the minimum is 60 here If I remember my driver’s manual correctly.
ok
As the writer of this bitch, my concern is with the outrageous speeds in which autos can go. Speed kills, we all know that. Speed is the major factor in most accident, sure inattentiveness and being impaired are a factor but if the driver was driving a little slower, things might have been different.
However, even that isn’t what this bitch is about. My bitch is about stunting partly and the upper spped in which an auto can go. I drive about 100km/h on the highway but I could go 220. For what possible reason would anyone need to drive that fast? Other than to joyride or avoid the police.
Once I get all cars equipped with “excess speed inhibitors”, I’ll start on having all guns equipped with combination locks. : )
If people couldn’t drive faster than 100 km/h Cops wouldn’t air at 9 pm on Saturday nights… Duh.
like chris rock says critter guy, charge ten grand for each bullet
I predict knifings would go up immediately…. if that’s even possible at this point.
Truelies, we can’t have cops going off the air, it’s one of the best drinking games out there.
take a drink whenever:
someone says “that ain’t mine”
or
mentions ‘god’ or ‘the lord’ in any way
Chug the rest of your drink if the officer already knows the perp they’re arresting
-must be an arrest though.
“If you 1% firearms, then only the 1% will have them”
Sorry, still giddy from the ship contract news.
Ok, so I agree that cars that will go on the road do not need to be manufactured to go 200KM/H+, but “no need for cars to travel any more than 100 km/h maybe less” That won’t work very well on my commute on the 102 (110 KM/H speed limit).
LS, how is a unit of measure “pansy”? Is it because the metric system makes more sense? Yeah that Imperial measurement system is such a badass! It doesn’t take shit from nobody! One time I saw the Imperial measurement system smoking in a hospital and a security guard told them to take it outside and then the Imperial measurement system told him to go fuck himself and lit up another smoke! Man that Imperial measurement system is such a rebel!
just an FYI for you non car people out there, a cars top speed is limited electronically by the manufacture based on the speed rating of the tires that are supplied when they roll off the Assembly line. If the speed rating of the tire is 170 kph, guess at what speed the fuel shut off kicks in at?
The speedo can say 240, 260 whatever… and the speedo is usually padded with a few more KPH than the car can ACTUALLY do ( without modification ) as a marketing ploy to get stupid people to think the car is faster/sportier/more bad ass than it really is. It’s the automotive equivalent of stuffing a sock down the front of your pants.
The reason cars top speeds are not limited to Legal posted speed limits is simple. No one wants it, the public as a whole or auto manufacturers.
