I am writing this message to most or all people in the media responsible for the cancellation of the Celine Dion show AND making her feel like she is not welcome here. I was very excited to hear that she was going to perform here. Then the STUPID media got involved. I listen to the radio at my work all day, and in the mornings I USED to watch Breakfast Television faithfully every morning, but listening to Jason Baxter bash Celine made me sick. Funny thing is that when the Rolling Stones were coming here the only thing people bitched about was the grass. Maybe the commons wasn’t the best choice for the Celine concert. Maybe the smartest thing for all involved would have been to find a better location instead, now we are faced with people around the world knowing how REDNECK and backward Halifax is. After hearing that Renee released a statement saying Celine didn’t feel welcome here, I wonder how the greatest album selling female artist in the WORLD (oh and Canadian) feels.

  1. Nobody objected to Celine Dion playing in Halifax. They objected to Celine Dion playing on the Halifax Commons. Even people who hate Celine with an unnatural hate wouldn’t give a shit if she played the Metro Center. It’s not our fault if Celine and her handlers couldn’t make that distinction.

  2. So, desperate little old Halifax is too sophistocated for Celine Dion now. What an embarassement!!! Already a reputation for being the most drab, boring audience in the whole fucking country, and now we insult the performers who are willing to come here because why, they arent ‘cool’ enough?? It just goes to prove how uncool this city really is! That people actually care enough to moth off about the location of a Celine Dion concert!!! How pathetic can you get.

  3. Actually I know more people opposed to her concert than those that were for it and it wasn’t about it being on the commons. It was more that they, and myself, were surprised they didn’t pick someone who was more appreciated by a larger percentage of the citizens in Halifax…so we all could enjoy a good concert. Celine Dion fans are generally females above the age of 35 and don’t tell me that’s biased or discriminatory or sexist…it’s practical fact. Show me one guy Celine fan under the age of 35 and who has not been under a strict regime of estrogen and spousal interference, you won’t be able to.Aww is the poor songbirds feelings hurt because the majority of people here didn’t want to hear her crooning? Too bad go back to Tacky Capital: LAS VEGAS.

  4. I think a lot of people have missed the point. I really don’t like her myself, but whatever, enjoy who you will. I just thought that putting her show on at the commons was dumb idea. This is Halifax we’re talking about here. There’s a very realistic chance that it will be miserable weather or who knows what else, not to mention the fact that a lot of the people that would go to see her show, probably don’t want or CAN’T stand around a place like the commons for hours. If she had been booked at the MC, it would have worked out just fine. Can you honestly tell me that the same group of people would weather the storm for a Celine concert that we did for the Stones? No. The majority would not. The commons & the hill are for dirty rock & roll acts like the Stone, AC/DC, Eagles, The Who, etc etc etc… cause people like me will go no matter what. It’s simple math. Book the venue where you’re going to garner the largest audience. Celine very well may have sold out the commons, but if it were anything less than perfect weather, how many people actually would or could show up?

  5. Hey, Halifax is basically a backwater and we all know it. The newspeople know this especially and will, of course, play up the angle they know that people living in a backwater are going to get behind.

  6. Definetly backwater! All you need to do in order to prove it is turn on Q104 where every second song is by Bachman Turner Overdrive, Journey or Aerosmith!

  7. You fucking backass maritimers, you make me ashamed to tell anybody I am from that shithole.I live in Montreal thankfully. You should be ashamed of yourselves but Noooo, why would you be…you live at the other end of the world without culture or regard for anything besides beer, baseball caps, and fighting.Disgraced at my homefolk.

  8. oh and p.s.> I am a well travelled and cultured person with class that just so happens to know the only way to get through to the primitive Haligonions is to speak their/your language…hence the cursing…go fuck yourselves you bunch of losers, ewww, you all made a great impression of yourselves, what a pack of fools, hahaha!

  9. Whoa! Easy there, TODB. I take offence to that! You want to be a little careful when speaking of Atlantic Canadians. Not saying there aren’t people here who fit your description, but there are tons of us who don’t fit it at all. Be careful with those sweeping generalizations. One would assume a well-cultured, classy individual such as yourself would exercise caution here and post a more educated bitch.

  10. No worries ‘Annster’…I also grow tired of ‘Dark’ bread as well. Now back to the matter at hand.I apologise if you took offense to what I ‘touched on’, nevertheless, was it the subject matter, Celine Dion or the fact that maritimers are ‘special’ and I called you on it, literally and figuratively speaking…?…neddless to say, unless one has resided elsewhere(outside of NS), then one cannot understand. In was a general fact and statement in which I had made and I will not apologise for any of it. Furthermore, I must add that maritimers, generally speaking, have an inferiority complex. With that being said I still love my home and some of my homefolk but to those that creted that world wide embarrassing fiasco, the harse words and sentiments are for you :)Happy fucking holidays you losers, especially Jason Baxter, he is as backass as one can possibly be(he works with my sibling, hehe). p.s. here’s a more ‘educated bitch’, bitch, haha-ha!
