To anyone who has the luck of having a friend with a car which you scoot around town in. Please, please, please have the sense to offer some funds (plus) for gas for short and long trips. They are covering much more than the cost of gas for any trip with maintenance, insurance and gov’t costs. Sometimes you just need the four wheels instead of two but don’t let them carry all the costs – simple math.

amen amen amen amen God I hate people who do that. They say its only this far or what not but its all bullshit lol
agreed dude!!
I don’t think you shouldn’t own a car if you can’t afford it. Unless you have a taxi light on the top of your car, why charge? Now, if it is a big road trip or something then everyone should to kick in for gas and probably agree to split any maintenance costs. The only other time that accepting money from friends for a drive should be if you are taking them somewhere you don’t need to go, like the airport or something. But if you are going out to a movie and want a friend to come with, why should they chip in? It might be appropriate for them to pitch in on parking, but not for gas. And it would be totally uncool to offer someone a ride home and then ask them for money when you get there. As long as a friend is paying the proper respect for you helping them get around, isn’t that enough. Otherwise, the car owner can come off as a jerk for asking for money all the time. No one wants to feel used in a relationship and both the driver and the passenger can take advantage of their position.
If you are heading in a direction, why not drive someone who is also going that way, without charge.Of course If someone is requesting a ride soemwhere, and you didn’t plan on driving there… make em pay.
