With all the downtown Halifax construction resulting in the elimination of so many parking spaces on the street, I have cut my daily trips to Spring Garden and environs in half and aim to eliminate the daily downtown ‘habit’ altogether. Parking has become nearly impossible on some days. Between meter money, a coffee and scone, whatever little item is on sale and such, I easily average $20 in spending per daily trip. Multiplied by the average 340 days a year I had made such trips, that works out to $6,800 a year. For every 100 people who have made or could make the same decision, that’s $680,000 a year removed from the coffers of the city and downtown businesses. Just sayin’. —Missing My Downtown Peeps

… because bussing is clearly beneath you.
Wow are there ever a lot of lazy tubs of lard in this town. You clearly don’t need coffee and scones if you can’t find any other way to get them other than in your car… lol
Easy there, big spender. When the downtown businesses get wind of the dough you are throwing around, you can expect them to put helicopter pads on their rooves, so they can fly you in and treat you like MJ in a toy store.
bus, ferry, or shoe leather
Make your coffee at home, eat something before you leave and take the bus/walk. That’ll save you $15 of your $20 easy.
Some people! Complain that there are too many vacant lots and the downtown is dying and something should be done to help revitalize it, then when they actually try to DO something about it, you complain that there’s no parking or that it costs you too much.
Look at any major urban centre in this world and you will find major parking problems. Some cities don’t even allow cars into their downtown core, (except for emergency and delivery vehicles), or charge a congestion tax each and every time you enter the downtown.
I think we’ve got it pretty good, personally. Sure it’s a pain in the arse sometimes, especially if you’re in a rush. And you may have to walk a little further than you’d perhaps liked, but with some forethought and a little bit of planning, I can honestly say have never NOT found a place to park.
Comment of the week goes to HampzZzter……with SHITD in a close 2nd.
Yeah, they could eat & drink something before they left but I think the coffee & scone are part of the experience.
Still – unless you don’t have access to transit (ie live in the middle of nowhere) then why not take your chances on it?
Definitely agree we’ve got it pretty good in terms of parking and I’ll take construction any day if that means it’s going to help revitalize parts of the downtown.
I really do wish they’d improve our transit, tho…

Amen, kelifax.
