Walked down one of the busiest street in HRM yesterday and thought, these are some of the ugliest most mismatched buildings I have ever seen. To the people who own these buildings, you are only thinking about your wallets and the cheapest possible solutions. You have no taste nor consideration for the history for these structures. To you low-maintenance dicks, cheap plastic siding is a quick fix, lazy, and horribly ugly way to cover a beautiful building! —Needs Visual Comfort

I understand what you’re saying OB, taupe siding, ugh. Lipstick renos & a quick flip.
But I’d rather mismatched building than $500,000 Corie St. row-houses.

Amen Op!
Beige vinyl siding should be banned from sale in this province. There is far too much of it!
Heres two other ghetto things Halifax could work on getting rid of:
1) Above-ground services and wires – this place looks like downtown Saigon with all the derilect leaning wooden power poles and wires hanging everywhere.
2) Mismatched, rustbucket, 15 year old taxis. Get some respectable taxi regulations! Having some guy in a rusted out 1991 Windstar or a teal Intrepid as your cab service is laughable.
make the cabs all a certain type of car(s) and a few acceptable colours (i.e. Yellow, white and black). Having a fleet that looks like a used car lot in Sackville must make visitors wonder what backwards part of the world they are visiting when they arrive in our fair city.
I think we need a decoy city for the OP like in blazing saddles.
We should paint the entire town red and rename it Hell like in “High Plains Drifter”
o.p., i guess you are new to this burg. this is the way it has been, since the 17oo’s, and won’t change anytime soon. i do agree that some building are an eyesore, and should be knocked down, but that is only my opinion. but nevertheless, they are deffineately ugly mothers. and some of the newer ones, well we just won’t even go there.
ivan, we don’t need any paint, it’s HELL already.
I thought this was going to be about hookers
love blazing saddles http://img.listal.com/image/1716130/500ful…
This is partially a problem with product design, we need a functional affordable siding that doesn’t look like shit.
I don’t think vinyl siding looks any worse than say the same red or brown or yellowish colored bricks. THey both look bland to me.
But with our climate, vinylsiding lasts longer, with less maintenance, than brick or wood siding or shingles.
I’ve got a steel roof & steel panels (siding) on the outside walls. Unlike asphault shingles, my roof’s suppose to be good for 50 + years, & some companies advertise 100. There’s a wide range of colors available.
So unless you OP are helping pay for the upkeep, or have some other method for building owners to protect their investments…you might want to lighten up.
Because with a weather pattern here, of constantly wet & dry, hot to freezing, siding makes sense.
If only they could make it darker eh!
Polyvinyl-chloride on a building is like polyester on a body;……..puke.
Eventually, oil will be so expensive, it will be cheaper to use better looking siding like wood, brick, or stone.
Meanwhile, vinyl is final.
Vinyl siding should be banned !
A waste of valuable oil.
And it looks ugly.
And I love my shingles, but scraping and painting is a summer ritual.
What about pebbledash? It’s the UK and Ireland’s version of vinyl siding.
Some people have no clue about how to maintain a property. Places where students and the poor live are the worst and should be condemned. Thankfully fire took down one eyesore last week in North End.
shame it wasn’t your place…
