C’mon Hali boys and Hali girls. Get with me, here:
Who do u suppose causes more damage to human life, the earth, and the earth’s resources?
Good tenants with pets, or human beings who love their investments more than they could ever feel for the earths animals?
What am i really saying? I’m saying “Don’t give up and don’t back down in the face of landlords who leave you feeling like you oughta be falling to your knees and apolgize for loving your pets enough to wanna share space with them”. The shame isn’t yours.
NEWSFLASH: Animals have just as much right to the earths resources as human tenants and human landlords do.
—not backin’ down for landlord

  1. “Animals have just as much right to the earths resources as human tenants and human landlords do”

Tell that to a raccoon. That that to a rat… shall I go on?

I have pets but, I’ll tell ya, if I were a landlord I would not allow for unnecessary damage and destruction to my property. All my pets are house-trained. They don’t chew and they don’t shred (anymore) but that doesn’t stop them from shedding old stinky fur IN to the carpets or pissing acid on the lawn.

Perhaps having pets is like having kids. If you can’t afford it, don’t do it. Buy your own house then nobody can tell you anything about your chosen lifestyle… well, for the most part.

  2. I love pets too.

But I don’t like destructive pets, I don’t like large pets to be confined in a space too small for them, and I don’t like pet owners who act irresponsibly towards their pets and other people.

If I own the building, I get to say what pets, if any, you are allowed to have live with you.

Same as if you come to visit me at my house—if I tell you that you are welcome but that your dog/cat/bird/fish/lizard has to stay at home—for WHATEVER REASON— then that’s that. Your pet doesn’t have an automatic right to come into my house any more than you do.

OP, attitudes like yours give all us animal lovers and pet owners a bad name.

Grow up and start thinking and acting like an adult.

  3. I’d much rather rent to someone with a pet than to a pack of young guys! I rented for 8 years in Halifax while having a 100lb dog. The search was always difficult, but evenually I’d always find someone willing to rent to me, and I never once lost so much as a fraction of my security deposit after leaving, because I trained my dog. He never chewed anything but a dog toy, never shredded anything, never barked unless someone was at the door, and never went to the bathroom in the house. he got so much outdoor excersize with me that when he was in the house, he was relaxed, happy and well-behaved. I also groomed him regularly so smell was never an issue.

  4. So animals should have the right to own mineral deposits, they should have the right to own gold… Shall I go on? What a ridiculous statement.

Look, OP, you’re a renter. You have to abide by the rules the landlord sets out. You don’t own the property, which means you and your pets don’t have any right to to dictate how the living space is administered. I’d have to say, there are properties out there that allow pets. Try looking for flats, and the like. You’ll pay a premium or maybe you’ll have to go over the harbour, but you’ll be allowed to have pets most likely.

  5. Yeah, for the fraction of responsible pet owners like scoobydoo, there are treble that of bad pet owners, who let their dogs and cats destroy the place. The previous tenants of the place I moved into had cats, and there was cat pee smell around for weeks, as well as FLEAS! 😮

  6. I would like to be able to buy a pair of kitten slippers. nice soft kitty fur against my poor tired sore feet .
Those kittens in the softies commercial would be perfect…except I don’t think 2 will be enough for a pair of slippers for size 11 feet.

  7. “”Who do u suppose causes more damage to human life, the earth, and the earth’s resources?””

Oddly, and somewhat OT, the biggest air polluter in Washington State is Mount St Helens.

And don’t forget it’s that greedy landlord who “loves his investement” that is suppliying the building you want to live in.

You want free housing? Join the army.

  8. No free housing in the army. You pay for either married quarters or single quarters. And no pets allowed in single quarters.

  9. I live in an apt building that allows dogs and I have a dog. My dog is trained. It doesn’t damage the apt. BUT I’ve seen tenants in this building with dogs and when they left, the damage was unbelievable! It made me question their ability to even own a pet. And they never picked up after their dogs outside either. So it doesn’t surprise me that apts don’t allow pets anymore. Would you want to spend thousands of dollars fixing apt after apt because of irresponsible pet owners, and there’s a lot of them, or take your chances? I wouldn’t.

  10. NEWSFLASH: An apartment building is not considered “the Earth’s resources”, and animals have no inherent right to live in one.
I agree with the notion of not owning pets unless you personally have the resources to provide for it; same goes for having children.

  11. Just because someone lives in an apartment or rental unit, doesn’t mean they can’t provide for their animals or children….geeesh where do you get that kind of notion? Not everyone wants to be a homeowner! This bitch is dumb anyway, but I think if you take care of your animals/children then you should have no problem finding a pet/kid friendly place to live.

  12. I think the point lorilulu is that if you don’t have the resources to find a place to live WITH your pets (apartment or not), you don’t have the resources to take care of them properly. “Resources” doesn’t just mean money, it also means the ability to find a pet friendly place and the responsibility to make sure that you do. Landlords don’t have to allow pets and pet owners need to consider that as an extra challenge to pet ownership.

  13. “Perhaps having pets is like having kids. If you can’t afford it, don’t do it. Buy your own house then nobody can tell you anything about your chosen lifestyle… well, for the most part”-kay
I guess I was more referring to kay’s post than nevermind’s. I know there are single people out there who think that if they live in an apartment building they should never have to share an elevator with a furry friend or a grass stained little boy, I was just sayin that those types (mainly kay) should know that owning a home may not be on the “to do” list but “having kids” might be.
Of course, this is all irrelevent to the OP, who thinks that a landlord should have to make an exception for her/him.
