I am exhausted.

I was in a good mood today but it was completely ruined by waking up to Swastikas drawn outside of my apartment door.
They were in the hallway and by the elevator in this “ocean view” apartment complex.

The best part of this whole experience was when I told the building reps and they said it was, “probably a bunch of kids goofing around.”

Is that supposed to make me feel safe?

I don’t care if you’re a bunch of kids or a bunch of adults.
We will not stand for this type of ignorance. —Pissed

  1. It does suck, but always hesitate in ascribing to malignance, that which is most readily explained by stupidity. Unless you have some concrete evidence of politicized hate-mongering, your building super may be correct. Doesn’t mean that the perps don’t need a size 10 attitude adjustment in the keister. All shitheads who scribble on public property do. You may hate it, but that doesn’t necessarily make it a hate crime.
    Investigate further.

  2. Ocean View? On Windmill? I used to live next to that building.. I thought management had a decent reputation.

  3. Could be worse…..they could have been suicide bombers parading around the city as “international students.”

  4. what if they were Falun Gong?

The swastika was stolen by hitler and his gang as a symbol of power. It is much older than that. It has a bad rap for being a symbol of hate but that’s a really new thing. This symbol is ancient. The nazis stole it.

Just trying to make your day a little brighter 🙂

  5. I hardly think it’s a hold-out Kampfgruppe of octogenarians from 12th SS Panzer making a last ditch counter-attack.

  6. bet they didn’t know that thing means good luk, in a lot of cultures. don’t sweat it o.p., maybe you will win the big lotto max tonight. and then, won’t they kick their fucking asses.

  7. A white swastika on a black field was the flag of an American Boy Scout Troop from its founding to some point in the 1930’s, when the Troop itself voted to discontinue its use, in light of the rise of the Nazi regime. The German-American Bundt (the pre-War American Nazi movement), who also used the swastika, may also have influenced their decision.

  8. The insignia of the American manned “Lafayette Escadrille” fighter squadron in WW1 featured an Indian head with feather war bonnet and a swastika in the headband. The works of Rudyard Kipling were printed with an embossed swastika on the title page up until the 1930s. And my parents possess a postcard mailed from a French Military hospital in WW1, white with a black swastika and black scrollwork border.

  9. That’s terrible OP! Your super should definitely investigate further, that’s not some mild tagging, regardless of who lives there it’s hate spreading by idiots. Have the supers ever heard of cameras?? My Aunt is a super and cops have been called in lesser situations.
Sorry again, OP, that sucks. I say get out, if they don’t care enough for their buildings to allow they they probably care less about the people in them.

  10. I’d have taken photos and sent them in to a few local mass-media outlets; named names, that sort of thing. Bad publicity and the prospect of having to drop their rents to get anyone to live there might light the fire under the landlords’ asses, if not getting hauled before the Human Rights Commission.

  11. You think you were targeted OP? You’re Jewish or a minority? That’s a key part of this story because, if you’re not, it probably is the work of pranksters (most likely harmless) but if so, you should contact the police.
I agree though that this type of thing should not be tolerated.

  12. I am Jewish (non-practicing) and I am the OP. I’m not sure if it was directed at me because I haven’t so much as looked at my neighbours.

The super cleaned the swastika but the person drew more before I got home. I can tell this because they were in a different place.

I put X’s around the swastikas but that’s about all I could do.

I feel sick to my stomach that I could be living near these people.

I do feel like they are just ignorant but you never know who could be living next to you.

    Thanks for your kind words.

  13. To respond to “troodon4”, there are ten units on our floor and every unit, except one, is occupied by minorities.

There are many people to look out for in this situation
