To the guy(s) who stole the grill off my Volkswagen this past weekend…I just got it back on the road last week, thanks to the generosity of my son. The way the car looks now somehow personifies the way I feel because I’m on income assistance. Thanks for the extra kick while I’m down. Hope you feel like champions. I’m feeling lower than this time last week. Thanks! —Need work, not hassles

  1. Generosity of your son? Your son should be providing you a place to live and taking care of your expenses rather than have you rely on income assistance. Who the fuck would allow a parent to live like this?

    My mind is now BLOWN!

  2. Maybe his son can’t afford to support him. Huge difference between helping to fix a car and supporting someone on an ongoing basis.

OB: Some people SUCK! Chin up: at least you aren’t a leech who misuses the system. That’s something to be proud of. Everyone and anyone can go through rough times. Keep on keeping on and things will turn around. I’m rooting for you, ob.

  3. Why is someone on social assistance able to afford a car? Isn’t that considered to be a luxury? Not in Canada!!!! Good old Joe Sucker taxpayer has to pay for vehicles for wells to get back and forth to the liquor store and Iphones for welfare moms to peruse the internet in the doctors office. Fuck sakes!!!!

  4. One particular leech I know of not only has a car for the trips to the liquor store but has travelled twice to the Dominican Republic two years ago. This person always wonders why they are broke – maybe the cigarettes, booze and dope has something to do with it? Yet, this person has a sense of entitlement that goes beyond all reason.

I could report that person who is now pretty sick but it would be like kicking a dying dog right now.

  5. OB, at any given time in this country, employment is over 85%.

THOSE ARE GOOD ODDS! So get up off that couch and look for work, lazy head.

  6. “Why is someone on social assistance able to afford a car?”

Perhaps they had the car before they went on assistance.

Everyone falls on hard times. Any one of us could end up like OB. It’s RIDICULOUS how easy any one of us could end up on assistance or homeless… given the right circumstances.

The job market right now is dead. It’s just a slow time of the year, and with the closures of RIM and Converges, a lot of people are out of work and actively looking around here. Even temp agencies are out of work, for the most part. You CAN go get a mcjob, but they’re usually only part time and don’t pay as much as assistance (certainly not enough to support yourself).

Just because OB has a car doesn’t mean he’s taking advantage of the system. Just read his handle: he’s looking for work. THere just isn’t any out there right now. It’s a slow time of year.
