Why, oh why, did the zipper on my winter coat have to break? It still zips but the dangly thingamagig doodad snapped right off with no chance of reattaching. This is very annoying. I can’t afford a new winter coat and there are two months of winter left. I may need some duct tape.

You can get zippers repaired, you know. Tailors do exist.
There was one on Wyse road Dartmouth & she was really good… last I heard she operated out of her basement down on Windmill right before you get to the NS power plant.
if you can’t afford a tailor, you could just put a paper clip or some such thing where the dangly bit used to live.
Yup paperclip or twist-tie and you are good to go, you may even find one that matches the color or your coat!
This zipper is unrepairable. The bit that held the dangly bit is completely gone. It’s just a blank zipper bottom. There’s no place for a paper clip or twist tie to be attached to.
My belly is cold.
That doesn’t mean the whole jacket is unrepairable – the tailor just replaces the whole zipper. depending on where you go, it could be anywhere from 10-20 bucks. still cheaper than buying a new coat.
if the little hole is still there, use a paper clip in emergency
Helen’s Taylor Shop on Blower’s Street is great and the prices are very reasonable. I think she could get your coat fixed up even better than it was before.
if its just the puller came off the come together part they should be able to fix that easily at the tailor. or you could return it if its newish
The zipper on my winter coat has been broken for over a year now and I still wear it. I just use the buttons and tend to be OK. Halifax rarely gets THAT cold!
so it still works then.
problem being???
grip the thing with your pointer and thumb and you should be in business.
I’ve been frugal with clothing for a while now….
you get used to it.
I hate the fact that I have to rotate which pocket my $/keys/wallet go because each pair of pants has holes through different pockets.
I get used to the rotation….
yeah i have clothes like that zzz…unless they are not complete rags and have one viable pocket i am good to go
Grow nails and just guide the zipper thingy up. Also, you can always get a tailor to put a whole new zipper on. It’s really not an involved process and shouldn’t be OVERLY expensive.
Just don’t go to the tailor on quinpool….holy rip off. I know someone who took pants in to get taken in/hemmed, and the guy charged him $50 for each pair of pants and didn’t bother hemming the fucking things! Ugh.
My parka says it is good down to -47, which we all know “feels like” -273 when there’s a breeze…
But even better, the zipper is made redundant with a hidden velcro strip that runs up the length…why all coats don’t have this I’ll never know. I can fasten my parka with one hand in 2 seconds.
Which is good, because when if the breeze picks up y’all know what can happen!!
Actually, a little Duct tape…what we call “Alabama chrome” out here on the road, is not a bad idea…what colour is your coat?
If you splurged and got the reflective tape…you’ve actually improved your lot!
Soon, everyone will want one
You can buy those dangly thingamagig doodad @ sewing center nation wide. If that’s all that’s broken. If it is also that other thingamajig that connects it, then you’ll have to specify and I’ll tell you how to fix that too…comprehend?
Ya, one can apparently freeze ones tattooed, nut sacks off!?
superglue?
