OK, I have simply had enough. I am here today to help us Haligonians out.
So here it goes: In order for our mayor & our chief of police to have their lobster dinners every night the money has to come from somewhere FAST! So lets guess where most of that FAST CASH comes from: TRAFFIC SERVICES.
These boys don’t fuck around. All they do all day is give out overpriced tickets to hard-working people. Not a break or nothing. One kilometre over, you’re caught!!!!!!
So what I am going to do is tell all you honest Halifax people where these dicks hang out: Bottom on the 102 coming into Bayers Road…the 111, Mic Mac exit…coming onto the MacKay bridge approach just before the tolls from the 11…Connaught Avenue…snywhere on the Msgazine Hill…oh boy that NAVY BLUE ghost car is hard to see in the dark.
If we all for one day obeyed the traffic laws and not one ticket was issued, mayor Kelly and Mr. Chief of police would be eating Mr. Noodles for a week. So let’s get together for a day or forever in fact and save some money for ourselves and not the higher-ups! —Pissed-off Motorist

1 click over, I doubt it.
The calibration error is higher than that.
You sped, you got caught, suck it you.
I meant suck it up.
I think cruising the Kinky board is effecting my mind…
stop speeding.
So let me get this straight, you were speeding, probably knowingly, and you got caught. By a “ghost car”. Yes, they use “ghost cars” to catch speeders. Gee, in my 10 years on the road, I have only seen regular police cars making traffic stops. This is all considering that the stretch of the Circ around Mic Mac is well known for cops catching speeders. I think you’re about as dumb as this bitch makes you sound, OP.
The notion that a traffic ticket pays the mayor’s and chief of police’s salary is too ignorant to comment on, however, if we all obeyed the traffic laws all the time, we’d save a lot of money. We’d need fewer cops, less insurance, fewer road repairs, etc.
Speeding is voluntary. Thus, the receiving speeding tickets is also voluntary.
Don’t want to pay the fine? Don’t speed in the first place.
There is also a purple crown vic ghost car and a beige older model crown vic I have seen used before. There is also impalas – I generally slow down when I see anythign coming towards me thats white or is a crown vic / newer impala. At one point I think they had a beat up sunfire coupe as well….
Grimey, is that you?
It pisses me off when people accuse traffic tickets of being a tax grab. A tax grab is raising the rates on something people cannot avoid paying, like the HST. Traffic tickets are a tax on the stupid. YOU went over the speed limit which doesn’t happen unless you’re in a late-model Toyota. YOU pay the fine. Seems on the level to me. Keep in mind that there is a certain buffer that is needed to stand up to court challenges, so 1kph, not exactly. But of course, you can speed all you want because you’re Homer Simpson!
Simple solution: don’t break traffic laws and you won’t get tickets.
Stop whining.
Another popular location for the cops to hide is in the driveway/parking lot of the CourtYard in Bayer’s Lake (that long strip of road towards RONA). They sit there and pick people off easier than a kid in a candy shop. What ever happened to Q104’s traffic (cop) report?
I actually thought police vehicles that are being used for speed traps had to be in visible to oncoming traffic and had to be visibly marked as a police vehicle. I know they take liberty on the visibility on oncoming traffic.
I drive by Mic Mac on the Circ quite often, and I’ve never seen them use a ghost car, and finding public info on traffic enforcement seems quite difficult to find the answer for myself.
OP, with lobster marketing the way it is, ANYONE can have a damn lobster dinner right now.
Tickets help pay for things. Things that otherwise would be paid for by other means. And everyone and their grandma knows there’s a speedtrap in front of the McKay, the Hill, etc, so you got what you deserved. :]
If I was a cop, I would thank speeders for their generous voluntary donations, which are desperately needed by the city.
Oh, and I would vote for an increasing fine scale as well, so that the more people wanted to speed, the more they could graciously contribute to all the services in our community.
And I would also tell them to have a very nice day.
Pull you over for going 1 km over? That’s a little ridiculous isn’t it.
I have never gotten a speeding ticket (knock on wood), and I pass police cars on parkland going between 50-60 all the time. It’s common sense, if you are speeding and driving recklessly, well you are going to get a ticket.
I LOVE the curbside lawyers who try to weasel out of tickets by saying “but i thought this…or that” police cars do not, under any provision within highway traffic act or criminal justice system ever have to be seen. no police officer has to SHOW a display to a motorist either. calibration is near flawless, as guess what folks, the speed the radar/ladar goes at is near speed of light….calibrate that. you get caught speeding, use it as a lesson or dont. bottom line is, obey the FUCKING LAW….no problems. just saying.
Let’s see the OB knows where all the “speed traps” are and yet gets caught speeding in the said traps. Yup the OB sure sounds smart.
and you actually think people are reading this while driving? my god, what kind of idiot are you?
I say they should have speed traps everywhere. Otherwise there is no deterrent for the asshats who recklessly speed.
they like to hide in front of caroll pontiac late into the night.
This was the highlight of my day a few weeks ago…
up by citadel hill clock on brunswick, paddywagon driver pulls buddy over for speeding (I think… he was moving…)
light turns red and oncoming traffic stops at that light.
first guy in the lane stops and whips out his berry to read mail or play brickbreaker or whatever the kids are doing with them now-a-days while waiting for the light…
cop in back of paddywagon with tinted glass pops out and tells him to pull over and proceeds to write a ticket of his own….
very nice.
That is awesome zZz. I wish more people got caught under the cellphone by-law. Apparently when Ontario and BC implemented more harsh regulations (i.e.: not texting, or having a cell in your hand while driving) they both had something like 800 tickets issued in the over the first weekend alone.
i watch people trying to hide their phone with their hair…we can still tell what you’re doing…self-entitled pillocks
It’s as regular as clockwork, and as predictible as fog in July….the moment someone posts a legitimate bitch about a law-enforcement issue, the same regular clowns come out with their “don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time, cluck cluck cluck” bullshit.
“If you don’t want a ticket, don’t speed…waaa
This is from someone who clearly does not drive on the same roads as the rest of us. EVERYONE at one time or another find themselves over the “limit” on our roads…unless they are dangerously blocking the traffic flow like a senile old woman or Dr Fever with his bespectacled face pressed up against the windshield as he white-knuckles himself out to the Walmart in Bayer’s Lake…
Most, if not all, NS “limits” were set in the 1960’s before ABS, radial tires and the breathylizer…and they need to be adjusted to meet 21st century reality.
Lazy cops sitting for instance at Bayer’s Road/102 inbound is nothing more than a cash grab….we ALL slow down eventually coming in here, but the 50 comes on WAY to soon and too fast, providing a “speed TRAP” that has nothing to do with safety.
“””if you are speeding and driving recklessly, well you are going to get a ticket.”””
Speeding, sure…but “recklessly”? Are you serious? When’s the last time you heard of someone actually getting stopped for “reckless” driving that didn’t involve a cop sitting in his car eating fig newstons until a “speeder” goes by, setting off a little tinkling bell to wake him up?
I see reckless driving 12 hours a fucking day, but it’s only “speeding” that gets the fines…because it’s EASY to enforce.
Those here that support huge fines for a few KM’s over the limit, are you sayng you want the HRM to bring in speed cameras? I think Ontario has some used ones for sale…about 2000 of them, lol!
How about “chips” in your cars you fucking sheeple, is that what you want?! Drift up to 56 for 3 seconds going downhill in a 50, at night, with no traffic…and “click”, thanks for the $150? Hammer-down to complete a pass for few seconds and get a $200 fine for 109 in a 100?!
Because that’s where we’re headed as long as people say stupid things like:
“” I say they should have speed traps everywhere””
“”Don’t want to pay the fine? Don’t speed in the first place.””
and my favorite:
“”Oh, and I would vote for an increasing fine scale as well…”
Oh boy, now there’s a novel idea! Have you told anyone?
Um, do you actually HAVE a driver’s licence?
And the latest outrage? People in HRM petitioning for speed limits to be LOWERED even more because they don’t like the noise of the increased traffic, and they think their feral children are in danger playing in the street…
Here’s a clue: If you don’t like the sound of passing cars, don’t buy a fucking house on the side of the fucking road…
Yes Frosty, technology advances in vehicles have made them safer. However, speed limits are there for reaction times as opposed for vehicle safety. We’re all not professional drivers. For every 1 professional (i.e.: truck driving fucktard… see? I can be inflammatory like you) driver like yourself out there, there’s 10 inexperienced drivers.
There’s your disconnect. I also think that the person who speeds 5 clicks over the speed limit wont get pulled over either. It’s not worth the cop’s time. Besides, unless you’re on a long trip, the extra 10-20 KM/H wont be a big deal at the end of your trip. Kinda like passing somebody to get to the light 30 seconds before you.
By the way, I’ve never had an accident in my life. I never want to have one either. My insurance if fucking ridiculous already. If have to block you in that process by obeying established laws and driving safely, I’ll be happy to do it.
Forgot to mention: if the OP feels that he’s been treated poorly enough, he can challenge the ticket. But that takes time and effort. Time and effort he’s not willing to provide, I’m sure. But damn it, he’ll whine and complain about it. Meanwhile, the “injustice” continues….
You completely miss his point.
Then what is the point balls?
You- Reaction time = distance to stop
BMF- Technology + reaction time = distance to stop.
*Only one of his points
“I also think that the person who speeds 5 clicks over the speed limit wont get pulled over either.””
No, they won’t, because the judge will dismiss it, based on allowable tolerances in both the vehicles speedo, and the speed measuring device. The examples “I” gave, however, are from actual convictions, and are not “5 over”. Although I don’t recommend going “only 5 KM over” in a 30 km/h school zone, it’s probably OK on the 103.
Most drivers (other than yourself, apparently) know this, and most drive up to 10% over the “limit”, not a set number – a percentage…(until they encounter my dad poodling along at 10 UNDER it, the CBC blaring away)…however, all this shows is that drivers, as a collective unit, will find the best speed limits completely on their own without a massive speeding-ticket cash grab. The Autobahns in Germany, are an example. The limits in the US are MUCH higher than in NS, but their accident rate is not.
At any rate, Balls is correct…the technology of today’s cars (the last 15 years or so really – when I drive my ’69 Ford, I feel a HUGE difference in handling and braking) has to be taken into consideration. In NS, the limits have stayed pretty much the same for 40 years, except where they’ve been LOWERED due to NIMBY selfishness.
At least the 100 series have been increased to 110.
“”if the OP feels that he’s been treated poorly enough, he can challenge the ticket. But that takes time and effort””
Again, you show your inexperience.
In NS, you are “bribed” to plead guilty by offers of a reduced penalty if you do.
And, in addition to this corrupt carrot, the “stick” is that if you fight it, and lose, your penalty INCREASES!
As a professional driver, you’re goddam right I fight every ticket…but by proxy, as I can never BE back where the “court” convenes…another bullshit law. Although it’s been a few years, since the speed cameras in the UK, really, since I’ve had one.
Wow, Frosty, feeling a little pissy today?
I know all about the “mythical 10% over”.
“The examples “I” gave, however, are from actual convictions, and are not “5 over”. Although I don’t recommend going “only 5 KM over” in a 30 km/h school zone”
Really?
Are you so thick as to think my comment to the OP about speeding on the Highway is appliciable to school zones?
And whats with the “I”?
Weird…
Never mind the fact that technological advances have made drivers lazy and more technology dependent, so said advances are canceled out by other “advances” like GPS and cell phones. ABS isn’t standard on all cars either, and people rarely get to take their cars to the limits where these advances make a difference.
It’s clear you went to the Brock Yates School of Speed Limits, where “speed limits are arbitrary numbers set by the “man” and are meant to be broken.”. Unlike Yates, however, you won’t change a damn thing, because, you see, he had the balls to fight it court.
I’ll leave you a final thought, because you’ll bring up the whole arrogant “sheeple” bullshit again, higher speed limits will not translate to faster and safer travel. Especially in the city, where the OP clearly has issue. We need to take into account not everyone is a professional driver. Nor do they need to be, and just because you are, doesn’t mean the average driver needs to stand aside for your wants simply because the average driver drives the speed limit.
You don’t have to drive the limit if you don’t want to Fever.
“”people rarely get to take their cars to the limits where these (technological) advances make a difference.]
That’s just plain wrong.
And it’s not just ABS, DF, it’s everything from tire technology, to disk and pad construction, to the suspension, to the weight of the vehicle…even the rigidity of the monocacque over a body/frame build. The differences are startling, and have been demonstrated many times. Modern cars are FAR safer at higher speeds, all things being equal.
Lots of posters here are car-savvy…so you’re just wating your time trying to say different, and risk sounding ignorant and ill-informed.
“”higher speed limits will not translate to faster and safer travel””
And yet, they have. In cases where the limits were too low, because they were set in 1965, they haven’t led to carnage either. Limits have been raised ALL OVER the US, and continue to be raised every week. Most divided interstates are 65-80 (110-130 K) MPH, and 55 (90 K) MPH is considered a safe speed for all rural areas. WE still have 40 (70 K) in areas where no-one important even lives!
No, raising limit makes at most a ‘small’ increase in average speeds.
Mostly, by raising the limits, we stop the nonsense of “everybody” techincally breaking the law…as they now do. Ever been on the 401?
People won’t necessarily drive much faster (a little, over time) but the police will then feel better about themselves by only targeting bad drivers, not just those who are keeping up with the flow.
This is a cash grab/law enforcement post, not your chance to disparage Nova scotian drivers as “poor” and “not professional”. They just want fair and safe speed limits suitable for today, not 1959.
Sometimes, Dr fever, the majority IS right…
“”Wow, Frosty, feeling a little pissy today?””
Naw…just another day in paradise out here bud…
So we raise the speed limit on the 100 series to 160km/h. Will you still bitch if you get a ticket for doing 180?
As for ABS, it’s the first thing I pull the fuse on in my car. ABS does not see what I see and has no idea of what I want my vehicle to do.
Yea don’t speed – follow the law and nothing happens . As for the comment of a police vehicle having to be marked and visable. False. Police can drive whatever they want , when they want. It only needs to have emergency equipment attached ( IE flashing lights behind the grill and a siren ) . OUt in calgary – they have a ford f-250 white with a tool locker box attached , a dodge charger gold color , a older taurus blue, ummmm yea you get it . Seems funny getting stopped by a pick up disquised as a work truck . I see that fucker all the time with people pulled over .
Lets see….hit a car doing 50, probably going to live, hit a car going 100 in a 50 zone, probably going to kill someone. professional or not, laws are laws. My father as a police officer got to scrape kids off a highway after a minivan loaded with kids(no seatbelts) left the highway at 30 km/h (based on reconstruction of accident) OVER the speedlimit. me personally, do not need or ever want the thought on my conscience that i killed someone by speeding. thats why when i see assholes behind me pissed off that im doing the speed limit…and i wish to emphasize LIMIT…it gives me great satisfaction that for a small amount of time, i may be keeping you from wrapping around a pole or killing a family. its my little piece of good deed for the day. Obey the laws, they are there even for “professionals” because even professionals make errors…tis only human.
why should you only want to do the right thing knowing the police may be watching…grow up. its like the god myth
paingirl i dont do the right thing because people may be watching. i do the right thing because it IS the right thing. Like first aid to a couple of guys that were attacked downtown, stopping a kid from being shit kicked by two roid ragers when they were drunk, or reporting dangerous drivers. I keep telling my wife we have, as citizens an inherent DUTY to abide by our laws and uphold them as best we can when we see them broken. the fact that so many of us have no honour, no sense of right or wrong(they always believe they are right no matter what) is why we have swarmings….why we have no real punishment for what wrongdoings are committed. and when a witness refuses to stand up and do the right thing, out of the desire to not be “involved” then we are just helping the situation get worse.
BMF, where do you get this crap that if you fight a ticket, you’re going to get a bigger fine? I’ve been in court on numerous occasions for traffic vio;ations (not mine) and when a person is found guilty the penalties are the same.
