10-12 years ago your could barely find a place that wasn’t trying to cash in on the new “hipness” of Halifax music with live acts. Sorry to say though…the quality of the scene just doesn’t seem to be what it used to be for one and perhaps the main bar going crowd these days isn’t into live stuff as much. Before anyone jumps on the quality comment just remember that a truly vibrant scene makes significant waves elsewhere and while Halifax may love it’s local musicians (which is fine) it doesn’t mean they are actually significant. If the market is there the venues will appear but it’s tough in a smaller city anyway.

I think thats your own opinion. I go to shows everytime there is one. Approx 3-4 times a month. The speakeasy, The attic, gus’s.what rock do you live under?
The thing is about the music scene around here is that it’s all the same shit, the same people that play in 12 other bands that sound the same. It’s really getting boring.
I’m tired of the same east coast cover band crap. The Lower Deck and all its other bland buddies (Pogue, etc..) play shit. Enough of that east coast crap! When’s someone gonna start pumping out some serious house/techno/trance? Someone’s gotta start playing serious music like the clubs in Europe.
Really, if you are going to bitch about anything- it should be about your spelling and grammar. “Pleeding”? Nope. Sorry- not even a word. “Pleading”, yes. “Pleeding”, no. Also, the use of “than”, is incorrect. “Then”, is the word you wanted to use. And “weither”… Come on here! Your argument would have been a whole hell of a lot stronger had you taken a sec to check back.Waverider’s got it right- it’s so much harder in a small city- and really, with the popularity of such trashy bars as the Dome and Palace at the moment, it’s a wonder nobody goes out to hear our local talent. (You never see them hurtin’ for business, do ya?) The talent that is supposed to be doing well already is. And those of us who are going to support it, well, we’re already there listening. That’s the best we can do for now.
My problem is that Halifax sells itself on “Maritime” music, but when you go see these so called “Maritime” bands at the bars, all they play is classic rock covers and Newfie tunes. Halifax has a great music scene if you actually go out and listen to bands playing original material. Halifax music isn’t Maritime music…It’s much better than that.

So, once again a BIG OL’ F YOU to you.I would also like to say that I I agree with ME, that there is a limited amount of talented musicians in this city and they all seem to be involved in like 5 other bands.Thus making the range of musical style limited. There are so many amazing types of music out there in the world yet in Halifax we only see the same old crap,a bunch of dandies on stage strumming chords on their guitar. Same goes for the DJ’s, if it isn’t the same set played 1000 times at tribecca on a saturday night, its exactly what you would hear on Much Music if you go to almost any other bar. Its nice that there are reggae nights and reggae bands, some thing different and fantastic (but get that guy of the fucking Mic on thursday nights at T, you are not U-Roy baby!)Anyway, to make a short story long, Halifax’s music scene is as boring and predictable as Air Farce. Yaaaawn!

If the only “shows” you ever see are at the Lower Deck or Ale House, you should consider expanding your horizons. I go to 2 shows a week on average. Some of them involve my friend’s bands, but a lot of them don’t. Sometimes they’re not great, but sometimes I’m really pleasantly surprised. I’m on my way to see Al Tuck right now! I think there’s a great scene here. It sounds to me like you need to have more musical adventures. Take a chance baby. You might be surprised.
