Do you see what I see? No salt, no plowing, no pre-emptive planning by HRM to make its streets safe and driveable. It’s gotten worse every year. The phrase “driving too fast for conditions” is now laughable. Get the damn salt on the road early, don’t wait till folks are in accidents that are preventable. If my car slides uncontrollably (with the emergency break on!) down Spring Garden and almost into a building, I should sue. No, the insurance bureau should sue – HRM. —White Knuckler

If you car is sliding uncontrolled down any street it means you need better tires, or should have stayed home. I am confused how it should be the fault of the 99.9% of drivers who got around just fine this weekend if you can’t control your car.
^^^ what walter said.
I really didn’t find the driving that bad at all. I have no idea why there were so many accidents being reported, but I had no trouble getting around.
No salt my aching ass! Everywhere I go, there are copious amounts of salt.
As long as there are bozo drivers with bald summer or all-season tires on their vehicles, the roads will NEVER be safe in winter. Winter tires should be fucking mandatory.
The salt trucks were out, and the roads weren’t even bad. Winter tires should also be mandatory. They truly do make a difference.
I 3rd that! Mandatory Winter tires for all!
i just bet that you are the one or ones that bitch about plows going all hours of the night, plowing no snow, salting where not nessesary, and a whole bunch of other shit. sit the fuck back, and chill the hell out. it’s only december for fuck’s sake. wait til it really snows, then return with your usual bitch.
If you have good all-seasons you can get around just fine. Some high quality all seasons are just as good, sometimes better than, no-name winter tires.
You know OP cars are now made with ABS brakes, so you can control your car. Having your parking brake on defeats the purpose of that system.
You don’t know how to drive!
There are always the all weather tire defenders – never had an accident in 1,000 years of driving blah blah fuck off.
The nanny state won’t make it mandatory for snow tires as it will cause undue hardship on the working poor having to splurge on 4 winter tires. The only way this will ever become mandatory is if the Insurance biz says “no winter tires between November and May and have an accident, suck my arse for damages” or the equivalent legalese terminology.
Toss up as to who we hate the most Insurance or NDP – toss up is appropriate as both are wankers.
I have always had 4 winter tires, driven front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, 4 wheel drives and now AWD – AWD is by far the best.
If you don’t know how to drive in winter conditions, don’t drive during the winter time.
some people shouldn’t drive in any weather. you add some and ice and snow and look out. i agree with baz about the insurance
For repeat traffic offenders, they should implant an engine immobilizer so when they put their hands on the steering wheel the engine will shut down.
now that’s snow^^

Guess what… Snow is slippery, and that is how it will always be. If you are ill prepared for winter, such as bald summer tires, and a nervous indecisive disposition behind the wheel, life will be miserable for you for the rest of the winter. So do us all a favour and stay the fuck off the roads, and quit whining about salt.
if the plow drivers put salt out before each possible snow event, the winter budget would be used up before winter is even half over.
Now if you were a smart and diligent driver, you would slow down, give more following room, and buy a set of winter skins for your vehicle. As for the whole I should sue somebody (HA what are you and american!!) you will be laughed out of the court house for not taking matters into your own hands and making more safety conscience decisions 🙂
good luck with any court related issues in this matter 🙂
A nice set of studded tires should be mandatory for dummies like OP. Save the rest of us the hassle of trying to navigate around the assfucks who don’t know how to deal with winter conditions. Who drives around with their parking break on anyway? SHiiiit.
Slippery road + parking brake = donut
Plowing in Edmonton sucks shit! In Halifax it always seemed like there were too many plows on the roads, but not the case here. Most plows are privately contracted, so when there’s a big snowfall and Mr. Plow is offered more money to plow a West Ed parking lot than Jasper Ave, where do you think he’s going to go? Then again, the City’s mostly flat, so as long as they keep the roads along the River Valley OK, you can usually get by fine even without snow tires… like silly me (my next thread bitchsponse!).
I used to only have all-seasons on my car in the winter, but I don’t drive much (I bus to work) and I never go out in bad weather so I didn’t think it would be worth the expense. I got a full set of studded snows with the last car I bought and I love them. I feel much more safe when driving now.
I would think that people who drive to work on a daily basis would definitely want snows – you never know what kind of shit we’ll get around here.
I was whining just yesterday about a plow that drove by (on a clear, dry road) salting the street behind him.
I’m with the mob: get new tires!!
well, happy winter solstice everyone. shortest day of the year and a full moon, but it probably won’t be visible http://www.glenniekindred.co.uk/prints/img…
