I am aghast at the state of punk rock promotion in this city. None other than SNFU is playing Gus’ Pub this weekend and all I’ve seen is one measly little poster tagged precariously to a light standard. Shame on me for not doing more. For that matter, shame on the who Halagonian punk rock community for not doing their part. Have we punk rocked ourselves into a state of complacency? Surely we (you) care about Chi Pig. Perhaps we should stop worrying about who has the coolest fixie and who can create the next clever sticker and start worrying about the state of Canadian punk rock. SN“FU” Paul Mccartney!

  1. The SNFU show will be packed to the gills, don’t you worry. If you don’t like the “state of punk rock” you should start your own band and promote your own shows. Also, Canadian punk rock has never been better IMHO.

  2. Last summer/fall was great for punk rock here in HRM. There was the all day punk show at the Pavillion 2 days in a row. There was the Bronx, Tat, Only Crime, Lagwagon show at the Marquee and then the Bad Religion show (which happened to be their last stop on their world tour) at the Forum. SNFU is good, but everyone who came here last year is a hell of a lot better.

  3. Sum 41 are a joke. Check out CPC Gangbangs, Brutal Knights, Fucked Up, and Trigger Effect for a good start.

  4. So, um, . . . correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the whole point of punk that it’s supposed to be kinda, like . . . “underground?”

Isn’t it obvious that the people who want to know about these shows will find out anyway?

I would imagine that SNFU could attract quite a crowd without any posters or traditional advertising whatsoever.

Or does the OP prefer to rely solely on sources like “KEWL FM” for music event info?

(Not that I wouldn’t enjoy hearing ads for SNFU in between the ads for Bedroom Depot and McDonald’s.)

  5. Stick a fork in McCartney, he is done and done and then some. He was great with the Beatles but I would rather listen a pack of howling wombats singing off-key than hear some sappy, fluff love ditty.

Look, we boomers have had our goddamn day – I hate these old rockers still shaking the fucking money tree – at least get a band that the 20s somethings can identify with, not some old dude with dyed hair and more wrinkles than my saggy old ass. Actually, in the looks department, my ass could give ol’ Paulie a run for his moola.

  6. HOWEVER, in McCartney’s defense, he rolls some pretty awesome bazooka-sized doobies. Don’t I wish I had his dope budget!

  7. Punk rock makes me want to stick a toilet auger down my throat, pull up my lunch, and launch it straight into the face of Sum 41 in 3 different directions. I’ll stick with the Barenaked Ladies and Pete Doherty, thank you very much.

  8. Wings had some great tunes, his solo stuff is just ho-hum but hey, can we really turn on him now?

  9. Nah, I think it was blink 182 that did it nevermind ( the whole pop punk scene..yay)

Neverwrong: the bad religion show rocked! lol

Anyone checkin out Iron Giant tomorrow at Gus’s?

  10. I do appreciate F. Mahony’s criticism on the amount of posters put up. I’m the promoter of the show, and truthfully I had too much on my plate over the last few weeks, and some of the promotion I would have liked to have done for the show, got put on the back burner. This being said, I am not concerned about the promo for this show (not to mention the all ages show the following day at The Pavilion) or the turn-out. I am doing what I can to help the scene in Halifax. I had The UK Subs here at the end of March and have The Vibrators coming in early June.
To F. Mahoney, I do appreciate your comments on how the show was promoted, but I hope you’re not going to make these comments in vain and not attend the show(s) because really, you would be the complacent one, not to mention a hypocrite.

However, if anyone is looking to be on future bills for shows I’m putting on in the future, shoot me off an email at:
    plaguedogproductions@yahoo.ca
or on P.D. Productions facebook or myspace pages.

See ya’ll at the Cannibal Cafe (whoops, I mean Gus’)

    Geoff

  11. SNFU… punk… in the same sentence. Now I feel old. Whatever happened to Punk? Same thing that happened to actual words in band names.

  12. My dream concert – the reunion of the Libertines – only I’d have to go to Camden, London UK to see that one. Fuck the oldies – they had their day – long live British Indi!

  13. With any luck they’re still as fun as they were 22 years ago at the Club Flamingo. Thanks Geoff, for doing what you can to promote shows for what’s left of the scene in Halifax.

  14. SN “FU” Paul McCartney. Priceless…Fucking Paul McCartney, didn’t he get clubbed by a seal or something?
