I recently required the services of a moving van to help me empty out my storage facility in Bayers Lake, and take it all down to the South Shore, so I could conveniently move all of my excess things into my Father’s garage and also attend a family get together.

I searched on Kijiji and found an ad that would do all that was required for $45.00 an hour. I responded. He responded. It was consumer bliss.

We agreed to meet at the storage facility on Sunday morning. The time came, it went, and you’re officially a huge dick. He was a no show.

I now have to pay an extra month’s worth of storage fees, and I missed the family get-together completely.

  1. Buyer Beware. I’m lazy and will never rent a U-Haul and move myself. I make enough money to pay people to do this for me.

But, I got burned like this too with a company that sounds like Mable Movers. They said they would show up at 12 noon to move my stuff from one apartment to another (less that 1 km apart). They did not show up. I called at 12:30 and was told two at the latest. I called at 2:30 and was told they were on the way. This process played out several time untill the movers finall showed up at 8 pm.

I finally called the owner and said I wanted a discount or something. His response: he was providing a third person for free and that’s life. And, to add to all that, the movers complained to me the whole time about having to work so late.

Needless to say, I never used that company again. And, I continue my mission to spread the word.

  2. I had great luck with a mover on Kijiji! they were actually early and moved very fast!

You can find legitimate movers on Kijiji it may be just hard to find them

  3. I worked for a moving company for years and in my opinion when moving it is best to go with a larger company you might pay a bit more in the long run or by the hour but they have the men and resources to be there on time and get the job done properly not to mention they have a superior claim process if there is any damages

  4. I too hired a company that sounds like Mable Movers…. was scheduled for an 8am start time, booked a month in advance. Moving day comes and no movers at my storage unit… I called repeatedly and was told they were having truck issues… they finally showed up after noon. 2 old guys, carrying 1 box or bag at a time and over $400 later my 2 bdrm apt move was finished and I only moved about 2 km away from the storage unit. I would NEVER recommend them!

  5. I also used the aforementioned movers, twice, and both times they were late. So yeah, I’m adding my voice to the “don’t use them” chorus. Sometimes cheaper is not worth the hassle.

  6. bah.

Storage spots will refund part of your month, 2 weeks anyway…and if your large south shore family can’t even find some room in their fish sheds and boat houses fer yer stuff…who wants to re-une with ’em anyways?

Just post their number on the appropiate websites:

“”Free gay phone sex…I’m shy so just start talkin’ dirty right away until I gets in the mood””
